Class WOW's Spring 1 2022
Each half-term at Boundary, every class launches their new learning journey with a whole class WOW - a profoundly unique event aimed to engage all learners in a multi-sensory, exploratory and fun series of events, activities or lessons that aim to allow the class to immerse themselves in their learning for the half-term ahead. Read below for details on how each class WOWed their children and take a look at the pictures from each exciting event...
Year 6 - Although it was a chilly morning, we began their Vikings topic by learning outside. We worked in teams and enjoyed taking part in a treasure hunt for Viking facts.
Year 5 - As part of our DT curriculum we will be exploring frame structures this half-term. Pupils were challenged to build a model of an iconic landmark, or create a model building of their own design. They were only given blu-tac and raw spaghetti to build with. This challenge required creative, teamwork, patience and a steady hand.
Year 4 - This half term our topic is Living things and their Habitats which we were all very excited about! We discussed the differences between living and non-living things before venturing outside to see which objects we could classify. The Year 4's had a top time hunting for different objects to fill our tables with and some great discussion points about what we thought would be considered as living or non-living objects. We are certainly looking forward to our science lessons this half term!
Year 3 - For our WOW we made salt dough and created our own Stone Age jewellery. We scored lines and dots into the salt dough to create patterns. After cooking them for a very long 3 hours, we were able to paint them and turn them into necklaces.
Year 2 - Our children got creative, designing and making sock puppets, that they then used to tell an animal adventure story. This is linked to their Design and Technology focus this half term on Puppets.
Year 1 - We went on an adventure using Now Press Play to save the seasons from Jack Frost. He wanted the world to be stuck in Winter but we had to stop him and save the day by retrieving the magical season clock. The children enjoyed using their imagination and acting skills to show different emotions
Reception - We have been exploring the season of winter; talking about how the temperature is colder, the days are shorter and how the trees are bare. As part of our WOW we read lots of wintery stories and were busy transforming our classroom into a winter wonderland by making snowflakes, painting snowmen and making winter trees.
Nursery - It's been a chilly start to the new term in nursery as we explored winter and what it feels like! We're really looking forward to exploring winter some more over the next couple of weeks.
