Reading into Writing in Autumn 1...
This half term reception have been focusing on learning some of our phase 2 sounds. We have been practicing oral blending, hearing the initial sound, forming our letters correctly and segmenting and blending to read CVC words.
Year 1 have read the stories 'Handas Surprise' and 'I'm Going to be a Princess.' We have sequenced the stories, written labels, captions and sentences as well as roleplaying the story at our story table.
In Year 2 we have been looking at diaries. We linked this to our Black History Month work and we looked at the achievements of Rosa Parks. After unpicking a variety of WAGOLLS and practising the features, we wrote a diary from the view point of Rosa Parks explaining what happened that day on the bus.
Year 4 have started their Black History Month themed Reading into Writing about non chronological reports. We will be writing a report about Jude Bellingham later in the journey, but today we looked at lots of WAGOLLs and identified the features.
In Year 6 we have focussed on autobiographies and news articles linked with our Black History Month work on Harriet Tubman. Our most recent piece of writing saw us writing news articles about her daring escape from slavery, both from the point of view of Harriet and from the slave owner.
