Reception The Lifecycle of a Butterfly

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the lifecycle of butterfly.  We have been observing our classroom caterpillars watchikng the grow and change.  The children have made some fantastic observations of what is happening.

"The caterpillar is eating the food" Oakley

"They are growing bigger and fatter" Dennis

"The caterpillar is hanging upside down.  He's going to make a a cucoon soon" Lily-Mae

We have been watching videos and exploring each stage of the lifecycle in detail.  We have learnt lots of new vocabularly and the children have been orally rehearsing their sentences using the correct scientific terms.

"The butterfly lays little eggs on a leaf" Freyja

"The egg hatches and the caterpillar comes out" RJ

"The make cucoons and transform into beautiful butterflies" "Kevin
