Year 4 - Coding a 'floor turtle'

Date: 15th Jan 2026 @ 9:06am

This week in Year 4, pupils began their programming unit in our computing lesson. They learned how to give precise commands to a “screen turtle” to draw lines and shapes. Starting with basic commands like moving forward, backward, and turning, they discovered how changing values affects the turtle’s movement. Pupils then combined commands to create patterns and even wrote their own code snippets to draw digits. This hands-on introduction to coding not only builds problem-solving and logical thinking but also lays the foundation for future digital skills essential in many careers.
