Multiplication Tables Check – Year 4
I’m writing to let you know about an important assessment for all Year 4 pupils: the statutory Multiplication Tables Check.
What is the Multiplication Tables Check?
- The Multiplication Tables Check is a short online test that helps us measure how well your child knows their times tables (up to 12 x 12).
- All Year 4 pupils in England are required to take this check.
- The check consists of 25 questions. Pupils have 6 seconds to answer each question, with a 3-second gap in between.
When will it take place?
- The MTC will take place at the start of June.
Why is this check important?
- Knowing times tables fluently helps children with many aspects of maths and sets them up for success in Key Stage 2 and beyond.
How can you help at home?
Practising times tables at home can boost your child’s confidence. Here are a few suggestions:
- Use apps and online games such as Times Tables Rock Stars and Hit the Button.
- Practise chanting tables or asking quick-fire questions on the way to school.
- Make it fun with flashcards, songs or multiplication challenges.
