Year 5 - Maths

Date: 9th Dec 2025 @ 12:31pm

In Maths, Year 5 have been learning how to compare fractions with both the same and different denominators. The children have learned that when the denominators are the same, the fractions can be compared easily. However, when the denominators are different, we need to analyse the fractions more carefully. Sometimes we use our knowledge of equivalent fractions to help, and other times we reason about the size of the fractions. For example, 4/6 is greater than one half, so it must be larger than 2/9. We then looked at how we would order and compare fractions when the numerators are the same!
