In Art we have been perfecting our pointillism skills. We used inspiration from George Seurat and planned our own poiltillism piece. We sketched out the design and thought carefully about our choice of colours, ensuring they complemented each other and set the correct mood desired for our piece. We focussed on line, coloour and texture in our final piece.

In Science, we used the outdoors and went on a Now Press Play adventure! Our goal was to travel in time to find suitable rocks to build a palace, all while fighting off the evil fire breathers! Afterwards, we participate in a quiz to check our understanding and we ALL scored full marks!!

On Monday, we were lucky enough to have an amazing Christmas dinner! We came in to school wearing our christmas jumpers and feeling very festive.
At lunch time we pulled our crackers, wore our party hats and enjoyed a festive feast!

After learning all about rocks and fossils, we studied a very important scientist- Mary Anning. We learnt all about her life growing up and the fantastic discoveries she made. We went on a hunt around the classroom to find out facts about Mary Anning, in order to answer our trivia questiosn. Today, Mary Anning is still known as one of the greatest fossil hunters to have ever existed!

In music, we have been learning how to play E, D and C notes. We have put them together to play along with a variety of tunes. We have also looked a different musical representations such as minims and crotchets. Today, we used our knowledge to compose our own piece of music with 2 bars of 4. We trialled different improvisations and next week we will transcribe our composition and start rehearsals.

In geography this week we explored what human and physical features are. Using our team work skills we sorted pictures and annotated then to identify features. We look at famous landmarks across the UK and identified whether they were were formed from human or physical features and compared them.

Year Three were lucky enough to have a visit and workshop from author Dan Worsley ! They enjoyed listening to his fantastic story telling and working with him to create a feirce pirate character.

On Friday children across the school put on their spots and stripes in aid raising money for Children in Need. The children enjoyed fundraising actiivtiies such as a P.E lesson with Joe Wickes and had a fantastic surpirse when all the teahcers got up and did a hand jive in assembly!

In Maths this week we have been beginning to learn about Multiplication and Division. We focussed on learning about recognising and building equal groups. We used a range of manipulatives to build a veriety of equal groups.

In Geography we started our journey learning about the UK. We went on ariel tours of England, Northern Island, Scotland and Wales and we were fascinated by the beautiful landscapes and spectactular buildings that the UK has to offer.
We also used atlases to find the UK on a world map and compared it to other countries in the world. We enjoyed looking for places we had visited and those we long to visit.

Throughout this week we have been learning about the importance importamce of Remeberance Day. We participated in our whole school remerence service to pay our respect to the soldiers that lost their lives for us.
We have read a variety of poems and stories in Guided reading that looked at World Wars from the soldiers perspective. We also painted and made poppies which we planted in our remerbance garden. We found this very important as the poppies we planted had the names of soldiers who had lost their lives.

This half term some children in Year Three will be participiating in a drama club! In the first week we had lots of fun while participating in a vareity of drama activities. These activities began to develop our understanding of movement exercises, freezeframes and improvisation. The children particually enjoyed moving around the room whilst taking on the role of different animals!

We have been focusing on Black History Month and we looked at the life and accomplishments of Mary Seacole. We were amaxed by the resilience and determination that she showed despite facing discrimination. We moved on to writing a diary from Mary Seacole's point of view. We looked at the features of diaries and unpicked them ready to write our own!

This week we started our new PE topic of Yoga. We focused on staying calm and controlling our breathing while learning new poses such as the tree and the cloud. We finished by exploring what we were grateful for.

This week we have been learning about Remeberance Day and the significance of poppies.
During Art this half term we will be looking at pointillism. As a class we started to look at some of the skills involved for this style. We used our fingers, cotton buds, glue spreaders and paintbrushes to paint dots to create our poppies!

For our WOW, we turned in archiologists and went digging for rocks and fossils. We set up a diggin site, a cleaning site and an inspections site. We looked at the characteristics of various rocks and fossils and started to group them.
Shoot for the Stars! Science Club

Today was our last day of Science Club and we had a blast! We used baking soda and vinegar to creat a rocket and we also tried the Mentos challenge.

Science Club's Ice Cream Makers!

In Science Club last week we made our own ice cream! We could not believe that we actually made it work. We started by pouring ice into a bag and adding salt to make the ice extra cold. We then added milkshake to a ziplock bag and put it inside the ice. After a long shake, we had ice cream! It was delicious!

In Reading into Writing we were being immersed into a variety of diaries and we were on a mission to find features! We were all given a label and we were the chief finder of our feature. We did a great job and we are looking forward to writing our own diaries soon, inspired by Mary Seacole.

In PSHE we have been looking at a variety of feelings, reasons for our feelings and way to manage them. We then went on to looking at how our actions can affect others and make their feelings change.

This week in Maths we have been focussing on the skills of column addition and column subtraction. We worked really harf to ensure that our presenation was neat and that all our digits aare lined up in a column. This has been a really fun challenge for Fern class and we are really proud that the whole class is using this method!

In Reading into Writing we have been focussing on wriitng a diary entries. This week we have been looking at all of the features that we are going to include in our final piece. As a class we had a discussion about what features we could see in our WAGOLL text and then we were able to pull out features during our 'Imersion into Reading' sessions.

Today we put the pens down and used our communication and listening skills to get through the day! In Maths, we used cereal to practise our Key Instant Recall Facts and found different ways to make numbers up to 20. We also completed some speaking and listening games and tested out our memory.
To finish off the day we found ourselves being secret agents in Paris. We learnt basic French greetings and destroyed the bad guy!

During music this week we have been learning a song to perform as a whole class. This week we added glockenspiels to our song and focussed on the beat, pulse and tempo.

We were so excited to go on our first trip in such a long time. The children were overwhelmed by getting on a coach and had such fun. We went to the Globe Theatre and watch a Ballet demonstration. The children danced so beautifully and we learnt so much about Ballet poses and what being in a Ballet School is really like.
