Making animal habitats at Forest School

This week at Forest School the children enjoyed learning about animals and their habitats. We talked about different habitas and what animals need to survive. The children then worked together to collect sticks, leaves, grass and stones in their buckets and used them to create their own animal homes.

Then we explored the Forest School area and looked for different animal footprints in the mud.
Afterwards we were made a fire to boil the water ready for our warm vimto drink. We talked about how to keep ourselves safe whilst making a fire. The we discussed the three different elements we need to make a fire; heat, wood and air.

At the end of the session we enjoyed a lovely drink of warm vimto and sang some songs around the fire.

In today's PE lessons we looked at different skills we would need as part of 'Invasion Games'. Today's skill was 'dodging'. We had to remember to look where we were going (keeping our heads up) in order to effectively dodge opponents who were coming towards us. For one of our activities we worked in groups of 4/5 where we held hands in a circle by holding plastic bands. One member of the group had a bib tucked into their waist band and they are the ones to be defended. The catcher then had 30 seconds to try and catch that person's bib whilst the group worked together to defend them by blocking the attacker. As you can see from the pictures, we had a great lesson!
Holly Class Forest School Fun!

It was a very breezy day but Holly Class wrapped up warm and ventured out to take part in Forest School.
First, we warmed up by playing running games and hide a seek and then we used our beady eyes to look for circles in the environment. We found them everywhere, on a bench, on logs and canes, at the bird stop, in plant pots and even in the pond (which had lots of frog spawn!). We then went exploring, trampiing through the soggy grass, raking the mud to plant grass seeds and building towers and seats to sit on using the logs. Alfie even found a frog! The children worked together, helping each other to lift, build, carry and explore.
By the time it was time to go, we were all very muddy and and very hungry. Before we went to lunch, Mrs McAllister hosed all the children down which was to their absolute delight!

This week in PSHE, we have been looking closely at making the right choices in class. We have identified appropriate behaviour during lesson time and break time and in some circumstances when it may be during both. We then learned about positive and negative consequences for our choices and how we can celebrate good choices during our Cedar Time.
Cedar children have been making great choices this week and had fun celebrating by the different choices of activity each day.
The Whole Gang Is Back Together!

What a wonderful first day back we have had in Nursery! All the children came back so well and have picked up exactly where they left off way back in December! They have remembered the rules and routines and were so excited to see each other! We are so happy to have everyone back and it was so great to see all your smiling faces.

In PSHE we have been discussing looking after our environment. After looking at the amount of litter around the school, Year 6 stepped into action. We took a litter picker, a bin bag and spent a good hour cleaning up the rubbish around Boundary. We managed to collect 6 full bin bags worth of rubbish. Our message to people is to take your rubbish home with you or use a bin if there is one in the local area.
We will be working on letters to the council and local residents soon to discuss what we can do with not only the litter problem but the dog foul too as we found quite a lot of that!!

We've had a great day here in Blue Bubble without our devices. We have spent the day playing games, constructing shapes/towers with art straws and baking. We have made pizzas and peppermint creams and had lots of fun in the process. We are looking forward to having another day like this!!

So we've started our new National Lockdown and we're also really busy learning online through Seesaw. The children in school are trying hard to complete the tasks too, but its great to see pupils working from home on their reading, writing and maths. The sites available for the children have usernames and passwords which should be in the pupil's reading diary, we are available via email to support you all too! We know this is a very difficult time for everyone, so well done to those people who are trying their best online each day! We're all learning new skills together!
This half term our History is about the Stone Age, Science is about bones and muscles, French is about animals and PHSE covers a range of topics from Keeping Safe online to Money and being Positive. HEre are a few examples of children's home learning from this week. Let's keep trying and learning together!

On Rainbow Laces day, we learnt about stereotyping in sport. We discussed who imagined when we said the sports: gymnastics, ballet, football and swimming. We looked at famous males and females in these sports and the amazing accomplishments that they have achieved. By the end of the session, we had a good understanding that it doesn't matter what gender we are, we should play sports that interest us most.
We learnt that we should not stereotype people or judge them based on their looks or genders. Be who you want to be and do the things that make you smile!
Rainbow Laces Day - Celebrating Diversity

This week we have been taking part in 'Rainbow Laces Day' which is a chance to celebrate diversity and learn about the importance of respecting other people's differences. We learned about a variety of sports people who are all LGBT, including Tom Daley and Colin Jackson. We discussed that all people are worthy of respect and it is wrong to disrespect people because they are LGBT.

This week in Reception the children have been introduced to our first characteristics monster 'Katie Kindness'. Katie Kindness has been teaching the children all about the importance of being kind to one another by sharing, taking turns, including everyone in your games, helping someone if they are hurt and using kind words and actions. Mrs Clark and Mrs Farley have spotted lots children showing kindness to others and we have been very proud of all the children. As a class we talked about how we could show kindness and how it makes us feel.

Nursery have had a jam packed half term so far!
We have been spooked with lots of Halloween activities. We made some pumpkin prints and used different shapes to create a shape witch.
We remembered all the brave soldiers and planted a poppy for them on Remembrance Day. We talked about the different jobs soldiers do and how they look after us.
Then it was time for Odd Socks Day when we celebrated our differences. We read the story “It Okay To Be Different” By Todd Parr and talked about how we are all different.
Next, we had an unexpected visit to space! The children decided to build a space rocket and fly to the moon. We made a space den and even made some intergalactic space slime!
We have also been doing lots of outdoor learning and we’ve had some great tunes tapped out on our new music wall! The bikes have also been a great hit and it’s been brilliant to watch the children build their confidence and ride down the hill!
And now it’s time for all the Christmas fun to start! Sorry in advance for all the glitter!

This week we have been doing lots of activities around unit-bullying day. We thought about how we can be kind and support each other, how we can make sure everyone has a friend and who and where we can go if we feel upset or need to share something with someone. We also all wore odd socks to celebrate our differences and anti-bullying day. it is our differences that we need to celebrate and these differences which make us special. The Week We Wore Odd Socks and Went To Space!

It has been a jam packed week in Nursery! We started off the week wearing odd socks to celebrate Anti - Bullying week. We read the story "It's Ok To Be Different" By Todd Carr and talked about how being different makes us special. Then we read the story "The Tiger Who Came To Tea" By Judith Kerr and practised our counting by counting out stripes to put on tigers. On Wednesday the children chose to build a rocket out of the chairs and fly to space! They had a bit of engine trouble and got the tools out to fix it and then off they flew! The children had their snack on the moon and then built some rockets out of junk modelling! To finish off the space theme, we made some intergalactic space slime! Phew! We all need a rest now!

This week in Year Five, we have been participating in Forest School sessions and have loved learning how to build a fire (on which we then toasted marshmallows), den building and playing outdoor team games! On anti-bullying day, we discussed why we shouldn’t use stereotypes and make assumptions about people or unfairly judge people because of their appearance or ethnicity. We all wore odd socks to remind each other that it is ok to be different.
Everyone is different but everyone is special!

The children in Reception have enjoyed celebrating Anti-bullying Week by coming into school wearing wonderfully mismatched socks. We took part in a whole school assemble via Google Meet learning about what bullying is and what to do if we are affected by it. In class we looked at our similarities and differences and learnt that everyone is different and it is our differences that make us unique. We talked about how we should treat everyone fairly regardless of our differences. The children also enjoyed designing their own odd socks.

We began anti bullying week by talking about different types of bullying, and how these types of bullying may occur. We then took part in the whole school assembly, which explored this years anti bullying week theme, 'United Against Bullying.'
This afternoon we then designed our own class jigsaw pieces to show how we are going to be 'United Against Bullying.' We thought about what changes we could make to our class and our school to make it a bullying free zone. We then also designed our own odd socks, and took part in an experiment which helped us explore what bullying can do to people on the inside, even though the effects might not be shown on the outside.

Platform pupils had a fantastic time in our Boundary Forest School.
We really enjoyed splashing in the muddy puddles!

Music was our focus for Black History Month in Year 5. We focused on the contributions that artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Bob Marley made to twentieth century music and culture. We listened and appraised different genres of music and created some wonderful artwork.

This week we have been learning about Black History Month. We started the week by reading the story 'Handa's Surprise,' talking about the characters, setting, and key points in the book, before sequencing and retelling the story.
We looked in depth at the illustrations of the setting and how this enabled us to know where the story took place. We also recapped on the use of adjectives, and how we could describe each fruit. We had ideas such as 'spiky large pineapple,' 'green, creamy avocado,' and 'yellow, bendy banana.' Later in the week we then wrote sentences to describe what was happening in a picture from the story, focussing on using capital letters, full stops, and segmenting and blending the words we wanted to use.
We also spent an afternoon creating and designing African masks. We explored a range of masks from countries we have looked at during the week, discussing the features, colours, and emotions the masks portrayed. Children cut out shapes from different coloured and textured paper to create the features of their masks. We discussed the use of symmetry and tried to make our masks as symmetrical as possible!
Throughout the week we have explored lots of similarities and differences, learning that everyone is different, but everyone is special.

In Year 1 this week we read the story 'How Full Is Your Bucket?' We discussed what it meant to be a bucket filler and a bucket dipper, and how the choices that we make can impact those around us. We also talked about how different actions make us feel, and how they can also make others feel. The children then sorted a variety of statements, deciding if they were bucket filler or bucket dipper behaviours.
Whilst learning about World Mental Health Day we recapped on being a bucker filler or dipper, and identified something we can do during our every day routine to be a bucket filler. We drew a picture and explained to an adult/wrote a sentence to explain something positive we had done that week that had filled our bucket.

This week, we ended the half term and October in school by celebrating Black History Month. The children learnt all about what Black History Month is and why is it important to learn all about it. We looked at many black men and women who have had amazing achievements; including Ruby Bridges (ask your child/ren who she is and why she had such a brilliant achievement). After we learnt all about what Black History Month is, we focused on the sporting achievements of black men and women. Firstly, we looked at the achievements of American black men and women. For example, the Williams sisters and Barack Obama. Then we focused on British black men and women and their incredible sporting achievements. For example, Marcus Rashford, Jessica Ennis Hill and Dame Kelly Holmes. On Friday afternoon, we went to the Dance Studio and had a look at the black post boxes which each year group had created about their Black History Month learning. Then we went back to class and watched the videos each year group made.

We have had such a busy and fun half term! It has been a pleasure getting to know all of our new starters and we have done so much exploring and investigating. We finished off this half term talking about similarities and differences for Black History month and the children were able to talk about how they were similar to their friends. We have also been practising our cutting skills, developing our fine motor skills by pegging numbers on to a washing line and talking part in collaborative play with activities in the tuff tray.
Numbers, Dancing and Squeegees!

Another week has gone whizzing by! This week we have been learning all about Numberblocks 1, 2 and 3! We have done lots of counting and have been sorting groups of objects. We have also been developing our gross motor skills by using the water and squeegees outside. On Thursday, everyone in school thought about Mental Health and in Nursery we thought about ways to feel happy when you are feeling sad. We decided that dancing was a great way to cheer yourself up, so we all had a good dance!

This afternoon, the children in Platform 1 and 2 came together and worked in groups for Lego Therapy.
We made a range of models including a whale, windmill and a racing car.
All the children work will together showing good teamwork and communication skills.
