Oracy Morning

🗣 Oracy Morning 🗣

Last week, we held an Oracy morning where the focus was on collaborative learning and talk. Here is a round-up of some of the learning that took place.

✨ Year 2 used Colourful Semantics to build expanded noun phrases for their writing. In Maths, they sorted 2D and 3D shapes, matched them to names, and went on a classroom shape hunt to spot real life examples.

✨ Year 3 acted out the story of Cave Baby to practise their speaking skills. This helped them use clear language, take turns, and listen carefully. By pretending to be different characters, they learned to use tone, actions, and words from the book, as well as their own ideas, to bring the story to life.

✨ Year 5 collaborated on an Aboriginal story, applying features like fronted adverbials, relative clauses, and expanded noun phrases. In Maths, they compared and ordered fractions with different numerators and denominators. Guided Reading saw them bring an M & S meal advert to life with expressive reading.

✨ Year 6 began with a prosody session, practising clear and expressive reading. Maths was hands on, with weighing scales, tape measures and jugs used to estimate and measure mass, capacity, and length. They also engaged in lively ABC discussions to agree with or challenge peers.
