Blossoms - Halloween Week

Date: 22nd Oct 2026 @ 9:43am

This week in Blossoms, our theme was Halloween. We explored lots of key Halloween vocabulary through a multi-sensory approach, using visuals, Makaton signs, and verbal communication to support the children's understanding and engagement.

The children enjoyed a range of exciting Halloween-themed activities throughout the week. We used shape matching skills to place shapes into the correct spaces to create Halloween pictures and took part in a picture and object matching activity around the classroom. The children also explored a variety of Halloween objects using their senses, describing and learning about their colour, size, texture, and shape.

Other activities included matching different Halloween characters, completing Halloween-themed jigsaws, and developing fine motor skills by pushing and pulling different items into a pumpkin.

Our "Happy Halloween" sensory story was a particular highlight. The children used a range of sensory resources linked to different parts of the story and then matched the correct objects to the corresponding sections, helping to develop their listening, understanding, and recall skills.

In Maths, we focused on prepositions, using practical and engaging activities to explore positional language such as in, on, under, and behind.

During Arts and Crafts, the children had great fun creating ghosts, decorating their own pumpkins, and using sponges to paint pumpkins before adding eyes, noses, and mouths to bring their creations to life.

It has been a fantastic week full of sensory learning, creativity, communication, and lots of Halloween fun! 🎃
