Reception developing our independence

Our Reception children have been developing their independence by learning how to get ready for outdoor learning so we can take our learning outside in all types of weather. They have been practising putting their shoes in the correct tray, finding the right size wellies, and putting on their waterproof trousers and jackets before heading outside. We have been incredibly impressed with how well they have tried to do this independently, with some children needing very little help from an adult.

Taking responsibility for their own belongings and dressing themselves helps to build confidence and prepares them for daily school routines. This is something you can encourage at home too by helping your child practise dressing and undressing themselves independently
