Remembrance Art

Date: 22nd Oct 2026 @ 3:51pm

Year 5 created detailed poppy artwork using different grades of sketching pencils, charcoal pencils and oil pastels. The children experimented with shading, blending and tone to add depth, texture and contrast to their work, carefully observing the shapes and colours of poppies.

As part of the lesson, the children discussed the significance of 11th November, Remembrance Day, and explored why people wear poppies and take part in acts of remembrance. They learned about the sacrifices made by soldiers and others during times of conflict and reflected on the importance of remembering those who served and gave their lives for their country. Through discussion and art, pupils developed both their artistic skills and their understanding of this important historical event, showing respect, empathy and thoughtful reflection throughout the activity.
