Year 1 - Hinduism

Date: 7th May 2026 @ 8:14am

This half term in Year 1, the children have been learning all about Hinduism, developing their understanding of different beliefs and traditions from around the world.
This week, the children had a very exciting hands-on experience as they explored what a Hindu home shrine might look like. They carefully observed the objects, images, and features you might find in a shrine, helping them to understand how Hindus use these special spaces for worship and reflection.
🕉️ Discovering Gods and Goddesses
The children took part in thoughtful discussions about the gods and goddesses they could see in the shrine. They shared their ideas about what each figure might represent and why they are important to Hindus. It was wonderful to hear the children using new vocabulary and showing curiosity about different beliefs.
🎨 Creating Their Own Gods and Goddesses
Inspired by what they had learned, the children then used their creativity to design and draw their own gods or goddesses. They thought carefully about:
  • What their god or goddess would represent
  • What special powers or qualities they might have
  • Which objects or symbols would help to show these qualities
The children included meaningful details in their drawings, explaining why someone might choose to worship their creation. This activity allowed them to express their understanding in a creative and imaginative way.
🌟 A Fantastic Week of Learning
It has been lovely to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic throughout this topic. They showed great respect when discussing religious beliefs and demonstrated a growing understanding of how and why people worship in different ways.
We are very proud of their thoughtful ideas and wonderful artwork, and we look forward to continuing our learning about different cultures and religions.
