Year 4 Design Technology: Designing and Making Light-Up Products

Year 4 pupils recently completed the exciting final stages of their Electrical Systems project. Working in pairs, the children were challenged to design and construct a light-up product that met a specific design brief. One of the key requirements was that each product had to include a working electrical circuit and a switch that the pupils had designed and made themselves.

Before making their final products, pupils drew on the skills they had developed throughout the unit, including building simple circuits, identifying faults, and creating different types of switches using a range of materials. They carefully planned their designs, selected suitable materials, and worked together to solve problems as they arose.

The classroom was full of creativity as pupils transformed their ideas into working products. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication, and resilience, adapting their designs when necessary to ensure their circuits worked successfully.

We were delighted to see a variety of imaginative creations, all featuring functioning lights controlled by pupil-made switches. Year 4 should be very proud of the engineering and design skills they have developed throughout this project!
