Year 5 - Always Time: Dreaming Big with Our Future Selves!
Date: 9th Oct 2026 @ 2:12pm
This week in Year 5, the children enjoyed a creative and thought-provoking Always Time activity that encouraged them to look ahead and think about their futures. The challenge was simple: imagine your future self, consider your hopes, dreams and career aspirations, and then bring those ideas to life using tin foil.
The classroom was soon filled with imaginative creations as children carefully shaped and moulded the foil into representations of their future ambitions. We saw aspiring teachers, footballers, vets, artists, engineers, scientists and even future entrepreneurs! Each sculpture was unique and reflected the children's interests, talents and ambitions.
As well as supporting our careers curriculum, this activity provided an excellent opportunity for children to think about the many possibilities available to them in the future. Through discussion and reflection, they explored the skills, determination and learning that might help them achieve their goals, helping to raise aspirations and encourage positive attitudes towards future careers.
Working with tin foil also helped to develop fine motor skills. Children had to manipulate, pinch, fold and shape the material carefully, strengthening hand muscles and improving dexterity and control. These important skills support many aspects of learning, including handwriting, art and design tasks.
Most importantly, the session gave children the chance to dream big. It was wonderful to hear them talk confidently about their ambitions and celebrate one another's ideas. The creativity, enthusiasm and ambition on display showed that our Year 5 children have exciting futures ahead of them! 🌟
