Year 5 - Fanatical about Friction

Date: 3rd Mar 2026 @ 1:25pm

In today’s lesson, Year 5 investigated how friction works by testing different materials against a range of surfaces. Pupils used force meters to measure the amount of force in newtons needed to move each material. They recorded their results carefully and compared how friction changed depending on the surface texture. Through the investigation, pupils developed their understanding of how friction slows objects down and how it can be increased or reduced. Most pupils worked accurately and showed good scientific thinking when discussing their results and drawing conclusions.
