Year 5 kicked off their new dance unit with a wonderfully unpredictable dive into Dance by Chance, inspired by Merce Cunningham’s quirky method of using randomness to create choreography, and the children absolutely loved it as they used digits from our school phone number to determine their own unique set of actions before practising them with creativity, control and plenty of laughter as they explored different levels, directions and timings while counting confidently in 8s to stay in time with the music and each other; by the end of the lesson, every pair performed their sequence for another duo, shared thoughtful feedback and refined their routines, making it a brilliant, energetic and collaborative start to our dance journey this term.
