Year 5 A Fresh look at Forest School

Date: 8th Sep 2022 @ 12:31pm

What a great time of Year to be outdoors! We managed to avoid the showers and had a lovely morning exploring the Forest School environment. We went on a mini beast hunt with the magnifying glasses and observed the habitats. We found lots of insects, arachnids and bugs lurking under the rocks and logs. A Frog leapt in! We all looked at it's camoflage, while learning the differences between frogs and toads. There was lots of seasonal fruit including mini apples, pears and plums, but they weren't yet ripe enough to pick. We also explored and enjoyed spending time with our friends outdoors and catching up casually after the holidays.

Karson planted some trees using the fallen fruit's seed.

Harley enjoyed working with his team to build dens and shelters.

Molliemae worked with her friends to make a chill out zone in their den, with books and colouring.

Darin made a cake masterpiece recipe including flowers, mud and fruits. He used his imagination to create a bakery business too!

Reception Eco Warriors

Date: 16th Mar 2022 @ 10:03pm

Our Eco Warriors, Isaac and Charlie have been very busy making sure everyone recycles ALL the waste paper in Reception.

They have also been checking that all food waste goes in the red bin after breakfast and snack time.

" Somebody put their fruit in the grey bin so I took it out and put it in the red bin!" Isaac.

"i found paper in the grey bin- not the brown recycling bag!" Charlie.

Eco Week 2021 - A summary

Date: 22nd Oct 2021 @ 2:20pm

Boundary's Eco Week!

This week we have been busy taking part in the citizen’s science campaign ‘What’s Under Your Feet?’ – looking at the impact climate change is having on the British bird population.
The children will take part, with other schools from around the UK, and will make observations on the number of invertebrate (worms, spiders etc. that birds eat) they find in the soil in the school grounds. This information will then be compiled into one large database and will form the basis of a research paper which participating schools will get credited for.

Recording the Results of our Plant Investigation

Date: 26th Apr 2021 @ 4:11pm

This week we looked closely at our plants and discovered what they actually need to grow. We put one in the cupboard so it had no light, one in the fridge so it had a low temperature and one plant didn't give any water to. It was clear to see that the plant that suffered most had had no water. We discovered that it was most important to give plants water because the plants can survive for a while without heat or light.

We also observed how seeds germinated with just water and warm in the cups - the mustard seeds and broad beans started to sprout and grow!

Eco Warriors Planting Trees

Date: 9th Dec 2020 @ 4:58pm

This week our Year 3 Eco Warriors planted some tree saplings in the Forest School area. Hopefully we will see them thrive and grow when we have our Forest school sessions in January. The children were very sensible although it was muddy! We have been talking about how we can take care of our environments both inside and outside of school and demonstrate responsibility by putting litter in the bin, taking our rubbish home from the park and ensuring that we are Eco friendly at home! All these things will help to improve and look after our planet.
