Today we took part in a shared writing session. We had to work as a team to devise a paragraph that would work as part of a biography for Ellen White, who was one of the England Team for the Euro's in 2022. We needed to include the features we had been learning about, including third person and past tense. We managed to manipulate some of the sentences to include fronted adverbial phrase.
Year 6 - 'Road Sense' safety talk
Date: 26th May 2022 @ 11:08am
Today we were visited by Lancashire Fire Service who delivered a talk on road safety. They talked through the importance of being aware when crossing roads by putting our phones down, turning music off and pulling down hoods. They also talked about the different pedestrian crossings to use when walking to high school. This was a very important talk as soon the children will be more indepdent and allowed to walk on their own if they don't already so road safety is crucial.

Our Reading into Writing journey at the moment is all about discussions/debates. We decided that the 'big question' that we would focus on is 'Should Emperor Claudius Have Invaded Britain'? Look familiar? That's becuase it was also a part of our History journey this half term! We decided that it would be a great way to link some of our subjects together so here we are breaking down the 'for' and 'against' arguments to practice being able to write a discussion/debate. Some very compelling arguments being formulated here, Emperor Claudius' adivsors should watch out!
A day with no pens.....but plenty of discussion!
Date: 5th Oct 2021 @ 3:38pm
Tuesday 5th October was No Pen Day. Pens and pencils were removed from tables and we had a whole day of discussion, problem solving and debate. The aim of the day was to improve our communication skills. We started by working in groups to solve mental maths problems, before moving on to talk about the slave trade as part of Black History month. We considered various dilemmas, talked about how to control infection in PSHE and debated the importance of various foods in our History lesson on the Mayan civilisation.

We have had such a busy and fun half term! It has been a pleasure getting to know all of our new starters and we have done so much exploring and investigating. We finished off this half term talking about similarities and differences for Black History month and the children were able to talk about how they were similar to their friends. We have also been practising our cutting skills, developing our fine motor skills by pegging numbers on to a washing line and talking part in collaborative play with activities in the tuff tray.

Year 2 have been learning all about money this week. Firstly we explored lots of different ways that we use and need money and how it is earned. The children then started look at what money looks like. We found that we can use both coins and notes, there are a range of different colours, shapes and sizes and that we can measure its value in pounds and pence. Next week we are ready to look at making different amounts and finding different combinations.

The tables were cleared of all pens and pencils and we had a full day of lessons without any books. Our no pen day saw us working collaboratively and developing our communication skills. We held debates, discussed resilience and learned how to say the date in French. Our maths lesson involved working together to solve multiplication problems using counters and number cards and completing various puzzles.
