Nursery and the Owl

Nursery were very excited when they got to meet some real life owls! The chldren found out how owls move their heads all the way to the back because they can't move their eyes and that there is an owl who likes to burrow underground instead of living in trees! All the children remembred the owl we met with bright orange eyes and how owls like to eat bugs and mice! 

Nursery and the Shaving Foam

Nursery had a wonderful learning experience with some shaving foam, paint and a couple of paint brushes! They explored the shaving foam and discussed its smell and texture. We then added some paint and talked about what happens to the colours as they mixed them all together. The chidlren then decided to mix the shaving foam with water and leaves to make a witches potion! 

Nursery get Funky with their Fingers

Nursery have been busy developing their fine motor skills with lots of fun funky fingers activiites. It's really important that they build up the strength in their fingers so they can develop a strong pencil grip. 

Nursery Ready Steady School

As part of our preparation for starting school next September, our pre school children have attended our first 'Ready, Steady, School' session.  The children session was hosted by the North Hub and supported by Better Start.  The children invited their parents and carers in to take part in a range of different activities similiar to those they will experience when they start school next year.  The children enjoyed using the visual timetable to see what activities where coming next and engaged in a range of play baed activities including small world play, fine motor activities, maths and water play.  The children enjoyed participating in short maths and phonics activities based on listening and attention.  It was lovely to see so many parents and carers supporting their children in this important transition.  Keep your eyes peeled for more 'Ready, Steady School' activities.

Nursery Bake some Bear Cookies

In Nursery, we felt very sad for the bear from "We're Going on a Bear Hunt". The children thought he looked really sad at the end of the story and maybe he just wanted some friends.To cheer him up, we made him some delicious cookies to share. As we made the biscuits, the children listened carefully to instructions, took turns with their friends and watched how the ingredients changed. The bear said our biscuits melted in his mouth and went down a treat with a nice cup of tea. 

Nursery Go on a Bear Hunt

We have been Reading "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen. The children are great at joining in with the rythm of the story and are starting to retell the story in the correct order. We went on our own bear hunt around school and found bears in all sorts of unusual places! We used lots of prepostion words to describe where the bears where including on, in and behind! We counted all the bears and found out that we had found 16 bears!

Nursery and the Brush Strokes

The children are becoming very famialir with the story "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" and loved creating marks to represent parts of the story using differernt brush strokes. The children repeated words from the story as the made the marks "swishy swashy", "splash splosh", "squelch squerch", "stumble trip" "hoooo wooo".

Nursery Make Bear Bottles

We are reading the story "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" by Michael Rosen and have had lots of fun bear activites in our provision. The children really engaged with our bear sensory tray amd created some great bear bottles by filling them with coco pops. This was great for their fine motor development as they scooped up coco pops are carefully poured them in to the different size bottles. As the childen filled the bottles we counted how many scoops and used mathmatical langauge including full, empty, bigger and smaller.  

Nursery Dough Disco

Nursery have begun their dough disco journey. The children will take part in dough disco twice a week as well as having opportunities to use playdough daily in continuous provision. Using play dough is a great way to strenghten fine motor muscles to support the development of a good penci grip. 

Nursery and the Water

There's nothing we like more in nursery than a nice bit of water play! It's a fantastic way for the chiildren to explore capacity, develop their fine motor skills through pouring and emptying and build relationships through sharing and talkikng through ideas. If only we could find a way to stop them getting soaking wet! 

Nursery learn the Routines

The Nursey children are becoming familar with all of our routnines. They are starting to get themselves ready to go outside by putting their shoes in their trays and putting on waterproofs. At snack time, they are washing their hands, choosing a snack and putting the rubbish in the bin. They are all doing a fantastic job! 

Nursery and the Mud Kitchen

Nursery have throughly enjoyed using our mud kitchen. The children have been learning to share the resources and work together to make some delicious muddy meals. As they were cooking, the children counted how many children there are so they could make enough meals. They used scissors to cut leaves to add to the food and had some good chats about what they needed to do. "You need to put it in the oven now". "It's ready. Quick get a plate". 

Nursery Get to Know Each Other

It has been great to welcome all of our nursery new starters. They are starting to settle in really well and are becoming familiar with the nursery routines. We can see some great freinships being formed and some super play skills - we think its going to be a fantastic year! 

Nursery Down on the Farm

Nursery had a moo-vellous time when they visited the mobile farm. They enjoyed learning about all the animlas and were so gentle and caring towards them. The farm dog was our favourtie though. She was very soft and gentle and loved getting lots of cuddles!

Nursery and the Rock Pool

We have been learning all about the seaside and what you might find if you explore the beach. Our story this week is "There's No Such Thing as Mermaids". In the story they look for mermaids in a rock pool. We created our own rock pool in a tuff tray using shells, sea cretaures and spinach for seaweed! 

Nursery get Ready, Steady for School!

Our preschool children were very lucky to take part in a Ready, Steady school session run by Better Start. During the session, the children took part in a number of activities that were all aimed at supporting the children to be school ready. They took part in some listening and attention activites, tried to find their name, helped to feed teddies and learnt about hygiene by washing the babies. The children had a super time and built their skills in a fun and interactive way. 

Nursery Heritage Week

Nursery looked at Stanley Park during Heritage Week and thought about the different clothes you would wear if you went in the winter or the summer. We pulled items of clothing out of a bag and talked about when you would wear the piece of clothing and why. The childen then made their own bear and dressed it for summer or winter.

Nursery and the Funky Fish

We found a very fishy way to develop our fine motor skills! The children has strips of stickers and had to carefully peel each one off and stick it on a a giant fish to create its scales. It was also a create way for the children to work collaboratively. 

Nursery Sports

As part of the whole school Health Week, nursery explored different sports. We played football, tennis and bowling. We showed great ball skills as we dribbled, passed and scored amazing goals! We also developed great skills with the tennis rackets and balls and got a few strikes when played bowling! 

Nursery Helping our Friends to Learn

We are so proud of our preschool children and how they show us every day that they are ready for their next adventure in Reception. They are showing a great understanding of the feelings and needs of others and have started to help each other with their learning This week it was a joy to see one friend helping another to write the letter "e" at the end of her name. 

Nursery and the Ducklings

Nursery were visited by the duckligs from our Reception class and they sure did make a splash! The children loved watching as the ducklings swam and waddled around. They noticed how the duckings didn't have adult feathers yet and were very fluffy instead! The ducklings were trying to look for food on the grass and even tried to nibble a couple of shoes and socks! We discussed how the ducklings had hatched out of eggs that the mummy duck had laid. 

Nursery and Forest School

Nursery had a wonderful time at Forest School. They searched for bugs in the environment, dug big holes in the mud and found out about all the different leaves you can find on the plants and trees, 

Nursery and their Excellent Fine Motor Skills

This week the children have been developeing their fine motor skills with activtiies link to the story "Handa'a Surprise". The chidlren have weaved baskets, made pineapples and cut them out and squeezed fruit to create some juice. 

Nursery New and Improved Mud Kitchen

Our mud kitchen has recently recieved a make over! We have made it bigger, added a water butt so the chidlren can collect their own water and added some new pots, pans and tools. The children are also able use the

 herbs that are avalaible in the near by garden. It has been lovely to watch the chidlren working togther to create their own recipes - we have had brocolli, soup and hot chocolate! 

Nursery and the Butterfly

Over the past few weeks we have been watching caterpillars go through the process of during in to butterflies. We were so excited to see that they had completed the process and we had five beautiful butterflies. Today we let them go and we think they loved the beautiful flowers in the garden.
