Nursery: Blog items
Date: 19th Mar 2026 @ 5:04pm
This week in preschool, we’ve been diving into the classic tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears—but with an exciting twist! Our sensory story sessions brought the story to life in a way that encouraged the children to explore, play, and learn through all their senses.
The children had the chance to feel porridge that was “too hot", compare “big,” “medium,” and “small” items and even explore soft, hard and lumpy textures. Using different materials helped the children retell the story, build new vocabulary, and develop early literacy and communication skills—all while having a wonderful time.
Sensory stories are a fantastic way for children to engage deeply with books and we can’t wait for more story adventures together!

This week, our nursery children had an exciting visit to a special science workshop, and it was full of wonder, giggles, and hands‑on learning.
The first big highlight was exploring an energy stick. The children discovered that when they all held hands and completed the circuit, the stick lit up and buzzed! They were amazed to see how their own bodies could help the energy travel. T
Then came the magic moment—standing inside a giant bubble! Each child took a turn stepping into a special bubble ring, and with one smooth pull, they were lifted inside a huge shimmering bubble. The room filled with excitement as everyone watched the rainbow colours dance around their friends.
It was a fantastic morning full of curiosity, teamwork, and laughter. The children learned so much through play, and we’re already looking forward to our next STEM adventure!

Some of our nursery children have been joining in with a Shared Experience. This is a simple but powerful way to help children learn. It involves taking part in activities together and talking about what you are doing as you do it. Instead of asking lots of questions or giving instructions, you join in with the children's play and share the moment with them. Learning through shared experiences can feel less pressured and more enjoyable. The most important thing is simply being present, following the child's lead, and enjoying the moment together. Small, everyday experiences can make a big difference.

This week, the preschoolers have been busy helping Teddy get ready for school. Through caring for Teddy, the children have been practising making their own choices and developing independence in everyday routines.
At mealtimes, the children supported Teddy to do things for himself. They helped him peel his fruit, carefully put a straw into his milk, and showed him where to place his rubbish when he was finished. These small but meaningful moments encouraged Teddy to try, persevere, and feel confident in his abilities.
By helping Teddy, the children demonstrated kindness, responsibility, and growing independence.
