Nursery Follow My Lead

Date: 3rd Feb 2022 @ 8:39pm

Nursery provides a mixture of experiences and some of these come straight from the children! This week they have been coming up with lots of super ideas. When they were playing outside, the children asked for some blankets so they could turn the crates in to beds! Then they used the bricks in some really inventive ways. One little girl said "It's my phone. I'm on my phone!" The chidlren also asked if they could have some dressing up clothes which led to super interaction and speech and language opportunities.

Nursery Help! We're Stuck!

Date: 25th Jan 2022 @ 5:14pm

Oh no! There's a problem! Some of the toys have been frozen in ice! How can we get them out?

The children were given blocks of ice with toys frozen inside and a choice of ways to set them free! They were given warm water, sponges and hammers! They worked hard to try and free the toys from the ice. They talked about how the ice was melting and knew that if they hit the ice it would slowly get smaller and the toys would be free! You'll be pleased to know that they did manage to free all of the toys - phew!

Nursery The Great Outdoors!

Date: 20th Jan 2022 @ 5:31pm

Everyday, the children have access to our wonderful outdoor area. Here they can explore a variety of different activites and express themselves through lots of open ended resources. Some of the experiences on offer include role play, sand and water investigation, gross motor activites, activities to develop their thinking through cause and effect and of course there's always space for a little quiet time. The children love to play outdoors and it's a great place for them to build realtionships and learn to work toegther.

Nursery Architects In the Making!

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 5:24pm

Nursery took part in the whole school no pen day by creating a den for a bear. We have been reading the story "Bear's Winter House" and we decided that the bear might like a bit of help to build his next house. The children made brilliant Architects and used a variety of materials to create a den for the bear. The thought carefully about how to attach the materials to make the house stable and didn't give up when the houses fell down! They were great at working together and listened carefully to each others ideas. I would definitely live in a house built by them!

Nursery Why Did Your Snowman Melt?

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 9:20pm

We have explored winter a bit futher and have been looking at colours that remind us of the cold weather. We painted on tin foil using blues, purples, white and silver and discussed how these are cold colours. Paintng on tin foil was lots of fun and the children noticed how the paint brush slide across the foil! We also talked about how we can build a snowman when it snows and talked about whether the snowman would last forever! We decided that the snowman wouldn't last forever because it would melt. We then used a mixture of shaving foam and PVA glue to create a melted snowman picture. The children had to answer the question "Why did your snowman melt?" Here are some of the answers

"Because I left him by the fire!"

"Because the summer came!"

"I gave him a hot chocolate!"

Nursery What Does Winter Feel like?

Date: 11th Jan 2022 @ 9:33pm

It's been a little bit chilly this week in Nursery as we have been exploring winter. We have been talking about the things we know about winter and lots of the children said that it snows in the winter and we need to wear hats and scraves to keep us warm. We tried to recreate some snow by mixing baking soda and conditioner together - the result was quiet realistic! The chilren have also been exploring ice and have been painting some ice cubes! This initiated a great converstaion about ice melting as a pool of water began to appear in the tray!

Do You Want To Make a Reindeer?

Date: 9th Dec 2021 @ 5:11pm

We love a bit of Christmas craft in nursery and this week we have certainly been getting very crafty! We have made Christmas cards, salt dough pots, designed christmas jumpers and made Santa and reindeer faces! Have a look at our pictures to see how you could make your own paper plate reindeer face. The chidlren had to apply just the right amount of paint so that it covered the whole plate but didn't make it too soggy. Then they had to use their understanding of positional langauge to make sure they put the eyes, nose and antlers in the right place and also use their knowledge of number to make sure they counted out the right amount of each of these. They also talked about reindeer, what they do, how they fly and even tried to remember all of the reindeer names. What a lot of learning from a simple paper plate!

Shapes

Date: 5th Dec 2021 @ 11:43am

During their time in nursery, the children will become familiar with 2D and 3D shapes and begin to use mathematical language to describe them e.g. sides, corners, straight, flat and round. The best way for children to become familair with different shapes is by exploring them and using them in different contexts. Our children have been matching shapes, building with shapes, creating paintings using shapes as silhouettes, painting large cardboard shapes and sorting shapes. They have also followed the outline of different shapes with buttons and explored 2D shapes outside in shaving foam - there's been a whole lot of shaping going on!

How Do You Make An Alien Spaceship?

Date: 1st Dec 2021 @ 2:35pm

It All Got A Little Bit Messy!

Date: 28th Nov 2021 @ 12:38pm

The children love sensory experiences in nursery and they provide so many learning opportunites. They are great for physical development as they require the use of both fine and gross motor skills. The are also a great way for children to build relationships with each other as they share and take turns and talk about what they experiencing. As well as all of this, they also support the children's communitcation and language development as the describe, question and explain what they are experiencing. Oh, and of course they have a lot of fun!

Funky Fingers

Date: 23rd Nov 2021 @ 10:21pm

During their time in Nursery, the children have the opportunity to complete Funky Fingers activities. These activites help to develop their fine motor skills and strengthen the muscles in their fingers. This plays a vital role in developing a good pencil grip and control over mark making tools to form letters correctly. Have a look at some of our Funky Fingers activities from this week.

Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down

Date: 18th Nov 2021 @ 8:34pm

We have been talking about the seasons this week and how we can tell it is autumn. The children have learnt  about the signs of autumn and know that the leaves change colour and fall off the trees. They have produced some super autumn based art work including an autumn collage and printing some autumn leaves. They have also been counting conkers and making shapes using autumn sticks.

What Could You Do To Be Kind?

Date: 16th Nov 2021 @ 4:44pm

Nursery took part in the whole school kindness day. We talked about what it means to be kind and the different ways we can show kindness to others. We then made a special kindness hand and said what we would do to be kind. Two special kindenss superheroes also visited us and watched over us all day to look out for acts of kindenss. They spotted sharing, helping others with the buttons on their cardigan and helping people to pick up objects they had dropped - what a kind bunch we are!

Thank You Soldiers

Then we made some beautiful poppies to help us remember the soldiers.

We're On A Health Kick!

Date: 9th Nov 2021 @ 8:50pm

In nursery, we have been talking about how we can keep our bodies healthy. We started the week by talking about how important it is to keep our teeth healthy. We talked about going to the dentist and brushed some giant teeth! Then we learnt about how important it is to eat our fruit and vegetables as they help us to grow big and strong and also help our bodies to fight off any germs by giving us vitamins! Then we made our own delicious fruit salad.

Read On If You Dare!

Date: 3rd Nov 2021 @ 8:28pm

There have been some spooky goings on in Nursery over the last few days as we explored Halloween! We read the story "What's In The Witches Kitchen" By Nick Sharratt which the children loved! They really enjoyed looking at the book together and were great at retelling the story. The witch even left us a bowl of jelly, but it had spiders and bats in it! The chidlren worked really hard to get them out using tweezers! We pratcised our counting by adding 8 legs to scary spiders and worked our fine motor skills by tapping witches fingers in to pumpkins! It really has been quiet a frightful week!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Date: 12th Oct 2021 @ 4:55pm

This week we are reading the story "We're Going on A Bear Hunt" By Micheal Rosen. The book is fantastic for teaching children about rhythm and pattern in langauge and its repetitive langauge makes it a perfect text for children to retell. We have been busy using our backpacks to go on a Bear Hunt and making binoculars to help us find the bear. We have rescued bears that got trapped in a cave and jelly and have been on a mini bear hunt through gloop - these are all great for developing our fine motor skills.

Exploring Length and Pattern

Date: 5th Oct 2021 @ 8:36pm

We have been learning some new skills this week - measuring and making patterns! First we explored length by comparing different scarves. We had to find the longest and the shortest. Then the children really enjoyed using a tape measure to find out how long each scarf was. Next we explored making a simple repeated pattern. We did this by using two different colours - see if you can spot the picture of the amazing repeated pattern made using pom poms!

There's A Dragon In Your Book!

Date: 1st Oct 2021 @ 12:17pm

This Week we have been reading the brilliant story "There's A Dragon In Your Book" By Tom Fletcher. This is a great book to share with chilldren as it's really interactive and we had so much fun reading it. The children have had so many experiences linked to the book from putting out the dragons fire to making him some delicious ice cream. They also used their fine motor skills to make dragons with moving parts!

Sing It!

Date: 29th Sep 2021 @ 6:51am

Singing Nursery Rhymes and songs is a very important part of our nursery day. It helps the children to become familar with patterns in langauage, rhyming words and it helps the children develop an ear for our language. Both rhythm anf rhyme help the children to hear the sounds and syllabuls in words, which helps them learn to read! The children love using our special "Sing It" bag as it's full of nursery rhyme props. We pull a prop from the bag and then sing the matching rhyme!
