Marvellous Me!

Date: 16th Sep 2019 @ 9:43pm

This week in Reception we have been thinking about ourselves and our families.  We have been painting self portraits, making our faces using loose parts, drawing and labelling our families, role playing in our home corner and talking about all the special activities we do together as a family.  We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the children further and finding out more about their families and friends.

"I have a dog called Hugo and it was his birthday.  He was six.  Me and mummy take him for walks"  Albie

"My mummy has had the baby now.  He called Ryder" Skylar

"In my house its me, mummy, daddy and my baby Nevaya" Callon

"I go on my horse.  My mummy takes me to the stable" Alexander

Our first week at school

The children have had a great first week in Reception!  They have been busy exploring the classroom environment, making new friends and get use to the new rules and routines.

As part of the children's induction period we have been focusing on ensuring the children fully understand the classroom rules and expectations, can recognise their name on sight and can write it correctly forming their letters properly.  The children have been working very hard and we are looking forward to having them in school next week for lunch.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Date: 20th Jun 2019 @ 12:34pm

The week we have been reading the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.  We have been talking about the lifecycle of the butterfly, making our own caterpillars at the creative table, adding and subtracting using foods from the story and retelling the story in our own words.  We are even lucky enough to have our own classroom caterpillars.  The caterpillars are very tiny at the moment and we are very excited to watch them grow and transform into beautiful butterflies.

Polar Animals!

Date: 9th Feb 2021 @ 2:09pm

We have been looking at animals that live in the polar regions- the Arctic and the Antarctic.

These are very cold places and only certain animals live there so we decided to learn about penguins and polar bears. We listened to information about where they lived, what they looked like and why they looked like they did. We then drew a picture, labelled it and for a challenge some of us wrote a caption.

Then we listened to the story 'Lost and Found' by Oliver Jeffers and drew a picture and wrote a description of a missing penguin.

Take a look at our work!

This week we have been doing lots of activities around Anti-bullying day. We thought about how we can be kind and support each other, how we can make sure everyone has a friend and who and where we can go if we feel upset or need to share something with someone. We also all wore odd socks to celebrate our differences and anti-bullying day. it is our differences that we need to celebrate and these differences which make us special. Take a look at some of odd sock picture below.

“Hold your mummy’s hand to keep you safe” Emily

The children then enjoyed making their own road signs and role playing in the garden.

Meet Katie Kindness

Date: 15th Dec 2020 @ 2:46pm

This week in Reception the children have been introduced to our first characteristics monster ‘Katie Kindness’.  Katie Kindness has been teaching the children all about the importance of being kind to one another by sharing, taking turns, including everyone in your games, helping someone if they are hurt and using kind words and actions.  Mrs Clark and Mrs Farley have spotted lots children showing kindness to others and we have been very proud of all the children. As a class we talked about how we could show kindness and how it makes us feel.

“Hurting someone is not being like Katie Kindness” Elliott

“I helped Charlotte when she fell over” Riley.

You need to have kind words so you don’t make people sad” Emily

“I’m happy when my friends let me play'” Jasmine

I wonder which characteristic monster we will meet next…?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Date: 15th Dec 2020 @ 2:41pm

Reception have been very busy the last few weeks getting ready for Christmas.  The children have enjoyed role playing the Santa’s Workshop wrapping presents, writing list and designing and building toys for Santa.  We have been reading lots of books about winter and Christmas including our favourite ‘Stickman’.  We wrote simple words, captions and sentences about Stickman and enjoyed using the props at the storytelling table to retell it in our own words. In Maths we have been ordering numbers one to twenty and adding a subtracting single digits using festive objects.  We have been making patterns using different Christmas items and putting Santa’s presents in order of size.   We have been adding items to our celebration box and discussing how we prepare for Christmas with our families.  At the creative area we have enjoyed making Rudolph using a range of different materials, thinking carefully how to attach legs and antlers and sponge painting our Christmas wreaths.  What a busy few weeks of learning we have had

Religious Education; a summary of our learning so far

Date: 15th Dec 2020 @ 2:27pm

At Boundary, our curious and tolerant children have had a busy few weeks learning lots about different religions and we can’t wait to share what we have done…

Reception have been busy learning about the Christmas story and filming our nativity in their outdoor area. They loved dressing up and re-enacting the nativity play.

This half term in Year 1 for RE, the children have been learning all about Jesus and the Christmas Story.  They have learnt about the roles of a family and why babies are special. They have read the Christmas Story and then ordered the events.  This week, they worked together in groups, to sort out Christmas cards into ones with a religious meaning and ones without.

Year 2 having been exploring the question…

Why do Christians say that Jesus is the ‘Light of the World’?

They children have learnt about how lights are used by Christians in celebration and to mark special events, what advent means and how they can be a light to other people!

Year 3 have been learning about Islam and who Muslims follow. They have learnt about the characteristics that the prophet Mohammed showed and how Muslims can be charitable. The children have reflected on this and how they can apply it to the role models in our lives.

In Year 4, they have been learning about Christianity and how Christians show love to everyone. The children have done this by looking at parables such as The Good Samaritan and The Unforgiving Servant. These parables have told them that it is important to ‘Love thy neighbour’ and treat everyone around them with care and respect.

This term in Year 5 they have been learning about Islam. They looked at Ramadan, The 5 Pillars of Islam, The Holy Qur’an and Hajj.

The Holy book of Islam is the Qur’an, Muslims clean themselves in water that has been blessed, before they hold it. – Lacey-Morgan

The pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is one of the five pillars of Islam and Muslims must do it at least once in their life if they are physically capable of it. Ihram is the name given to the special spiritual state in which pilgrims wear two white sheets of seamless cloth during their pilgrimage. – Myles

Year 6 children have been learning about the Hindu belief in reincarnation, karma and the 4 Ashramas (stages of life). The children have reflected on the milestones they have achieved in their lives already and possible future ones.
