In Reading into Writing we were being immersed into a variety of diaries and we were on a mission to find features! We were all given a label and we were the chief finder of our feature. We did a great job and we are looking forward to writing our own diaries soon, inspired by Mary Seacole.

In PSHE we have been looking at a variety of feelings, reasons for our feelings and way to manage them. We then went on to looking at how our actions can affect others and make their feelings change.

This week in Maths we have been focussing on the skills of column addition and column subtraction. We worked really harf to ensure that our presenation was neat and that all our digits aare lined up in a column. This has been a really fun challenge for Fern class and we are really proud that the whole class is using this method!

In Reading into Writing we have been focussing on wriitng a diary entries. This week we have been looking at all of the features that we are going to include in our final piece. As a class we had a discussion about what features we could see in our WAGOLL text and then we were able to pull out features during our 'Imersion into Reading' sessions.

Today we put the pens down and used our communication and listening skills to get through the day! In Maths, we used cereal to practise our Key Instant Recall Facts and found different ways to make numbers up to 20. We also completed some speaking and listening games and tested out our memory.
To finish off the day we found ourselves being secret agents in Paris. We learnt basic French greetings and destroyed the bad guy!

During music this week we have been learning a song to perform as a whole class. This week we added glockenspiels to our song and focussed on the beat, pulse and tempo.

We were so excited to go on our first trip in such a long time. The children were overwhelmed by getting on a coach and had such fun. We went to the Globe Theatre and watch a Ballet demonstration. The children danced so beautifully and we learnt so much about Ballet poses and what being in a Ballet School is really like.

In Science, we have been learning all about forces. We decided to carry out an experiement to test which material would be best to drive a car on. We discussed how to keep a test fair and used our Working Scientifically butterfly to carry out the journey from asking questions to drawing conclusions.
We found out that the more friction between the surface and the vehicle the slower it moved and decided that smoother surfaces were much better to drive on. We thoroughly enjoyed being scientists!

Election day was upon us and the Year 3 children had a bug decision to make. Who would be their class councillor? The children did such a great job creating a manifesto and sharing that with their peers and then a secret poll was held. We discussed the importance of having a democracy and how this had an impact on our lives.

During our European day of Lanaguages, we studied Germany. We learnt some basic German phrases during the day and found Germany on our school Map. We then looked at food from Germant. We had such a great afternoon taste testing a variety of German foods!

Year 3 were lucky enough to start their journey with The Royal Ballet School. The children loved this new experience and were mesmerised by the musician that played for us while we danced. We pointed our toes, stretched our arms and learnt lots of new positions. We are looking forward to continuing out lessons and our going to The Globe Theatre to watch the experts dance!

In Music, we were devloping or performance skills in signing. We focussed our attention to the pulse, melody and tempo of the song. Next week we are going to be adding the glockenspiel to the song we have been singing today!

In Design Technology, we have been looking at shell structures. We identified that the 3D shapes started out as nets. We spent some time trying to use nets to make our our 3D shapes. It was very tricky but we showed great resilience and perseverance along the way!

During P.E this week Fern class enjoyed learning a dance routine. We worked together to ensure we knew the choreography and that we were dancing in unison. This tested our team work skills as well as being a fun workout!

In Mathematics we used 'Now Press Play' to recap key inforamtion from Year Two. This session focused on number bonds and we enjoyed going on a pirate adventure to solve riddels to crack a code and earn our riches!

For our WOW we solved clues and carried out mini experiments based on forces and magnets to work out a secret code. We tested how many paper clips a magnet could hold, we identified magnetic items, we checked if magnets were attracted to each other and we loved making iron move around our tables!

Lots of children have been chosen this week by the Royal Ballet Teachers and invited to participate in a club from September which will give them Dance opportunities with the Royal Ballet School. We have been practising galloping, balancing, moving to the music and coping the different stretches that the teachers have shown us. It has been a fabulous opportunity for Year 3 and we know the next Year 3 class will really enjoy taking part in September!

We have been creating our own music! Not only have we enjoyed working with Mr. Simpson to create our Samba Rhythms, but we have composed, transcribed and performed our own music using the notes DEF on the Glockenspeils. We played to each other in class, making sure we took note of the music we had composed. We used crotchets, minims and rests to put 4 beats in each bar. We also tried to draw our notes accurately on the stave!

This week we have started looking at Non-Chronological reports in Reading into Writing. We have been reading a variety of texts to highlight the features so that we can analyse what we need to include in our own success criteria. We have read about lots of interesting facts - we now know that they need to be factual and give information. Our Reports will be about our Geography topic Mountains and Volcanoes so we have been doing lots of reading and learning about different mountains around the world too so we have a great background knowledge for when we draft our reports.

We had a brilliant sports afternoon in Year 3, with lots of races including the egg and spoon race, hurdles and an obstacle course. It was lots of fun, we all got very hot and we also contributed to our Road To Tokyo goals because of all the activity we did!

This half term we have been learning all about Animals including humans. This was revision from the January Lockdown. We have learned about food chains and which animals are consumers and producers, the types of skeletons animals have including endo and exo skeletons, vertebrates and invertebrates. We most recently talked about our own human skeletons and understood that we have a skeleton for movement, protection and support.

For RSE week, we have been learning about different families and who is important to us. We talked about people who love us or who we love, being included in our family unit. We also talked about peer pressure and social pressure and how we can say no!
We also focused on the PANTS rules for our bodies and how we can say no to any touch that makes us feel uncomfortable. We know lots of different people who we can talk to if we are unhappy and listed our trusted adults.

We started practising our Design Technology skills of sewing, by learning how to thread a needle, knot the end and then we learned how to do a running stitch and a back stitch! For some of us, this was very tricky and for lots of us, we had never ever done this before! It was great to see to much team work, concentration and resilience being shown by the year 3 pupils as well as patience for when the thread was tangled and they needed a little more help.
Now Press Play - The Water Cycle

Today we went on an adventure in Ethipoia using the Now Press Play Headsets. We learned about the Water Cycle and how a water droplet from a lake or the sea evaporates to become water Vapour, which condenses to form heavy clouds and then precipitates to form rain on mountains/hills so that the water can rejoin the streams and rivers. It was a great adventure where we had to save the village from being in drought because a mean farmer had made a damn. We listened and acted out the story well!

We have been creating our own musical rhythms and accompaniments for tunes using Music Lab on the Chromebooks. We have been looking at keeping the pulse and beat and using different long and short notes to create the rhythms. We changed the pitch and created texture in the melodies by adding layers of sound. Some people used different types of instruments and created synth effects, strings or glockenspiel sounds.
