๐๏ธ A Quick Look at Today’s Assembly
We had a visitor come in for a 30โminute assembly to explain what Parliament is and why it matters. They broke it down simply: Parliament is where laws are debated and decisions about the country are made. It’s made up of the House of Commons, where elected MPs sit, and the House of Lords, who review and improve proposed laws.
The speaker reminded us that Parliament shapes everything from education to national policies, so understanding it helps us understand the world we live in. A short Q&A at the end let students ask about elections, debates, and how young people can get involved.
A brief session, but a surprisingly engaging one that made politics feel a lot more relevant.

๐ต๏ธโ๏ธ Our Crime Story Writing Adventure
Over the past couple of weeks, our class has been diving into the world of crime stories. We started by reading lots of different examples—from mysterious robberies to daring escapes—and collected exciting ideas and vocabulary to use in our own writing.
Armed with inspiration, we set out to create our very own crime tales. Some of us imagined robberies in grand mansions, while others wrote about missing laptops or stolen artefacts. We hope you enjoy reading through some of our work below—see if you can spot the clues and solve the mysteries yourself!

๐งฎ Hands-On Maths Fun!
Today our children enjoyed a practical maths session all about measures. They had the chance to explore and experiment with a variety of equipment, including:
-
๐ Tape measures to check the length of different objects
-
๐ซ Measuring jugs to estimate and record capacity
-
โ๏ธ Weighing scales to find the mass of everyday items
Through these activities, pupils practised estimating and then measuring accurately. This hands-on experience really helped them make meaningful connections with their classroom maths work, showing how numbers and measurements are part of the world around us.

๐ฎโ๏ธ Our Visit About Online Safety
Today the police came to talk to us about Online Safety. It was really interesting and made us think about how we use the internet every day.
๐ What We Might See Online
Sometimes the internet shows us things that aren’t nice. This could be:
-
Cruelty or bullying
-
Abuse
-
Inappropriate content
If we ever see something that makes us feel upset, the best thing to do is tell a trusted adult.
๐ด Why Late-Night Scrolling Isn’t Great
We also learned about using phones, tablets, or computers late at night. The police explained that:
-
Screens can stop us from sleeping properly
-
Being tired makes it harder to concentrate in class
-
Putting devices away before bed helps us feel more rested
๐ก๏ธ How We Can Stay Safe
Here are some easy tips we talked about:
-
Limit screen time before bed
-
Use privacy settings
-
Talk to parents or teachers if something online worries us
โจ What We Learned
The internet can be amazing, but it’s important to use it wisely. By making smart choices, we can stay safe, happy, and focused.

๐ Year 6 Reading: Sedna, Goddess of the Sea
This week in Year 6 we read the story of Sedna, the goddess of the sea. We enjoyed exploring the text together and talking about what it meant. We stopped to look at tricky words and worked out their meanings so we could understand the story better. We also practised our prosody – reading with expression, rhythm and tone – to make our voices sound more like storytellers. It was a great way to build our reading skills while enjoying a powerful myth from another culture.

๐จ๐ฉ๐ง Year 6 Together Time
This week, we welcomed our parents and carers into Year 6 for a special Together Time session. It was a fantastic opportunity to share all the hard work we’ve been doing since September.
To make it fun and interactive, we organised a quiz covering everything we’ve learned in class so far. From maths and reading to history and science, the questions gave our families a real taste of the wide range of topics we’ve explored. Everyone joined in with great enthusiasm, and it was brilliant to see parents and carers working alongside us, testing their knowledge and celebrating how much we’ve achieved. The quiz sparked lots of laughter and proud moments, showing just how far we’ve come this term.
Together Time was a wonderful way to connect home and school, and we’re already looking forward to the next chance to share our learning journey.

โ Year 6 Recap: Fractions
This week in Year 6, we have been busy revisiting everything we’ve learned about fractions this half term. From simplifying and comparing to adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, we’ve worked hard to make sure all of our fraction skills are sharp and ready for SATs.
To challenge ourselves, we tackled a mix of reasoning questions and arithmetic problems. The reasoning questions helped us explain our thinking clearly and show how we can apply fraction knowledge in different contexts. The arithmetic practice gave us the chance to build speed and accuracy with calculations.

๐๏ธ Exploring ISPACE Openers in Year 6:
This week in Year 6 writing, we have been learning how to make our sentences more exciting and varied by using ISPACE openers. ISPACe stands for Ing, Simile, Preposition, Adverb, Conjunction, Ed, — six different ways to start a sentence. By practising these, we can avoid repeating the same structures and keep our readers hooked.
We’ve also been working on adding detail to our main clauses. Instead of writing short, simple sentences, we’ve been stretching them out with description, action, and atmosphere. This helps us to build a clearer picture in the reader’s mind, which is especially important as we prepare to write our own crime stories.
Year 6 - Knife Crime Awareness
Date: 18th Nov 2025 @ 3:37pm
-
๐ช Risks and consequences – carrying a knife can cause serious harm to yourself and others, and it is against the law.
-
โ๏ธ Legal impact – even having a knife without using it can lead to arrest and a criminal record.
-
โค๏ธ Staying safe – the police encouraged pupils to make positive choices, avoid peer pressure, and speak to trusted adults if they feel worried.
-
๐ฅ Community role – everyone has a part to play in keeping schools and neighbourhoods safe.

Children in Year 6 have been looking at Remembrance and have learnt more about why the Poppy is a symbol of remembrance. We sketched poppies and coloured them in with pencil crayons. The children have also been busy making poppies that have the name of a soldier that they will keep in their thoughts when they plant them during our whole school act of remembrance on Tuesday 11th November.

This half term, we have been learning about Christianity and God. We explored the 7 sacraments and discovered how these can be different in various Christian denominations. We also talked about the importance of words, symbols, and actions in Christian rituals and ceremonies.
To finish the unit, we thought about how we have changed over our lives and how we will continue to grow and develop, both emotionally and physically. We linked this to how people grow in their faith and how they can be guided through life by their beliefs.

Today we held our first Spelling Bee of the year. Each house was represented by the best spellers from Year 2 - Year 6 and the children were tested on spellings they have been learning in Autumn 1. We are very proud of all the children for being their house representative and spelling some very tricky words in front of the whole school. The overall winners were Chepstow, who managed to spell 12/15 spellings across all 5 years groups.
