Year 3 - Geography News Reporters
Date: 15th May 2025 @ 8:54pm
In this week's Geography lesson we learnt about the eruption at Mount St Helen’s which occurred on Sunday 18th May 1980 at 8:32 am. We learnt that this eruption has been likened to that of the dramatic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. Thankfully, through scientists observing the volcano, they noticed that the north side of the peak began to bulge and earthquakes were being detected under the mountain. This led to the prediction that an eruption would happen imminently, which meant that they could evacuate the surrounding areas as best as they could. With the information that the children had learned, they had to do a news report on it. They got into trios and had: one reporter, one eye witness and a scientist. They did such a fantastic job - I defintiely think we have some future broadcasters on our hands!

Nursery and the Beautiful Garden
Date: 5th May 2025 @ 4:20pm
The Nursery garden was beginning to look a bit sorry for itself and it was time to give it a make-over! After a lot of preparation, digging out beds, removing weeds and moving countless wheel barrows of garden rubble, it was time to plant some beautiful plants, flowers, grasses and herbs. The children played a big part in creating the garden and helped to dig out the old soil and plant the new flowers. The garden now looks beautful and we are excited to help look after it and watch the plants grow, Extra special thanks goes to Mrs McAllister. Without her expert knowldge and hard work, this wouldn't have been possible. Also a big thanks to Mr Galloway and Mr Harding who had the hard task of digging up the beds! And finally, thank you to the all the nursery staff and children for all their help.

Year 3 – Primary Futures – Sky Explorers Exciting Jobs in Aviation!
Date: 26th Mar 2025 @ 10:12am
What an exciting day we had at school! We learnt all about amazing jobs in aviation. First, we met an aeronautical engineer who shared fascinating details about how planes are built. I never knew that they had to think about aerodynamics! Then, we met a police aircraft pilot who wowed us with pictures of the views from the aircraft (most impressingly, Buckingham Palace) and how each day is extremely different. He even mentioned that he'll be watching The Grand National next week as he'll be in an aircraft above. Everyone was on the edge of their seats! Finally, we listened to a lovely woman who is a research fellow. She told us how she investigates new technology to make flying safer. What a brilliant morning it was, and it made us think about what we want to be when we grow up!

After completing the puzzle, pupils made their own tarsia for their friends to complete.

We looked at some topic cards and had a class discussion about how we would act in different situations and how people would be feeling. We used our oracy skills to agree, build and challenge. The children looked at instigating the conversation and taking ownership of them moving the conversation on between themselves.

This week the children in Reception have been making pancakes. We talked about the tradition of pancake day how some people decide to give something up, during the Christain period of Lent.
