Learning how to play the glockenspiel!

Date: 18th Sep 2020 @ 9:22am

This week in music we have enjoyed learning how to play the glockenspiel. We spoke about rhythm, beat, tempo and notes. We moved to music, sat down and listened with closed eyes. After listening, talking about the song and answering the questions together (using correct musical language) our task was to play the glockenspiel in time with the beats in the song. We learnt how to play the notes C, E and G. It was great fun! We had to work collaboratively and help each other.

Cooking on the Campfire

Date: 13th Feb 2020 @ 8:12pm

We had a very muddy but fun forest school session this week. We explored natural and man made materials. We worked as a team to build and light a campfire then prepared jam doughnuts to cook. We sang songs around the campfire while they coked then ate them and they were delicious.

The One With The Glockenspiels

Date: 23rd Jan 2020 @ 9:19am

In today’s lesson we looked at another Carol King song - ‘One Fine Day’. We compared the three songs that we have listened to so far from Carol King - ‘You’ve Got a Friend’, ‘Loco-motion’ and ‘One Fine Day’.

We then used the glockenspiels to begin to follow the rhythm and pulse of ‘You’ve Got a Friend’. By the end of the lesson, we could recognise the notes: A, E, C, D, G and F on notation and play them in time with the beats and with each other.

Fingers at the ready!!

Date: 7th Jan 2020 @ 3:59pm

To introduce our new music based topic, Top of the Pops, the children worked collaboratively and took part in an interactive music quiz. The questions ranged from the 1960s all the way to the present day. Great fun was had and there were some impressive scores! We will be focusing on Motown, Rock and Hip Hop in future music lessons.

World Nursery Rhyme Week

Date: 22nd Nov 2019 @ 4:11pm

Nursery rhymes play an important part in early childhood development and education, as well as being fun they help children develop social, physical and emotional skills. We have particularly concentrated on 5 nursery rhymes this week, focussing on one song each day. We started the week with 'Baa Baa Black Sheep,' where we looked at weighing different bags of objects, talking about which were heavier and lighter. We then moved on to 'Down in the Jungle,' where children looked at ordering animals by size. On Wednesday we sang 'Row, Row, Row your boat,' and made bottle cap sailing boats, talking about how we could get them to go faster! On Thursday we were lucky enough to have some of our adults join us to celebrate World Nursery Rhyme week, and we showed them everything we have been learning, including our rhyme of the day 'Incy Windy Spider.' Today we have looked at 'Two Little Dicky Birds,' making our own birds in the craft area, and using seeds and lard to make bird feeders to hang on the trees outside! We have put them in the fridge to set over the weekend, and will be hanging them out next week and keeping an eye to see it we can spot any birds eating them! Children have been practising these songs as part of their BLT for the past couple of weeks and it has really shown in their work in Nursery, we have had a jam packed, fun filled week!

WOW .... 'This is me!'

Date: 3rd Sep 2019 @ 4:23pm

Today for our WOW we have learnt the song ‘Good to be me’, talked about how we are special and different, choose a friend and made a certificate to celebrate what we like about them, made friendship bracelets, created self portraits and made faces out of natural objects and resources.

Music and Geography home Learning

Date: 1st Feb 2021 @ 8:11am

We have been doing lots of home learning this last few weeks so this week we shine the light on some great Musical composing using crotchets and minims; we have been using digital technology to create drones too. In Geography we have been learning about Europe and the UK too. Well done to all the children at home and in school who are trying their best.

Year 2, Our term so far

Date: 16th Dec 2020 @ 10:33am

Year Two have had a busy half term, crammed with lots of learning. From calculating and finding number bonds in Maths, to appraising and creating Christmas
songs in Music. We have been Super Scientists by planning investigations about everyday materials and we really enjoyed using primary sources in History to find out more about why we remember soldiers from The First World War.

Our year so far

Date: 15th Dec 2020 @ 2:31pm

Nursery have had a jam packed half term so far!

We have been spooked with lots of Halloween activities. We made some pumpkin prints and used different shapes to create a shape witch.

We remembered all the brave soldiers and planted a poppy for them on Remembrance Day. We talked about the different jobs soldiers do and how they look after us.

Then it was time for Odd Socks Day when we celebrated our differences. We read the story “It Okay To Be Different” By Todd Parr and talked about how we are all different.

Next, we had an unexpected visit to space! The children decided to build a space rocket and fly to the moon. We made a space den and even made some intergalactic space slime!

We have also been doing lots of outdoor learning and we’ve had some great tunes tapped out on our new music wall! The bikes have also been a great hit and it’s been brilliant to watch the children build their confidence and ride down the hill!

And now it’s time for all the Christmas fun to start! Sorry in advance for all the glitter!
