The children really enjoyed reading The Gingerbread Man this week and have used story props to retell the story and designed their own gingerbread man. To finish the week off we made our own gingerbread biscuits (luckily they didn't run away!). The children had to take turn with the mixing, help to measure out the ingredients and make sure they put the right number of buttons on the biscuits. The chidlren were excellent bakers and the biscuits tasted delicious!

Year 6 have had a great morning - without pens or pencils! We took the opportunity to discuss, debate and challenge each other through a variety of activities. We started with some philosophy and considered a number of questions before feeding back our opinions to the rest of the class. In Reading into Writing, we learned about LGBTQ+ issues and the Pride movement before discussing discrimination and why being an ally is important. Finally, in our maths lesson we worked in groups to solve practical problems involving decimals.

This week has been Road Safety Week in school. After a whole school assembly on Monday, we have spent time in class discussing how we can stay safe as pedestrians, cyclists and passengers in cars. We looked at a range of real-life senarios and discussed the dangers that we could see. The biggest take-away from this week has been to think about the clothes we are wearing, particularly when it is dark, so that we can be seen by drivers.

This week is Road Safety Week. We have been talking about how to remain safe on our roads; not just as paedestrians, but also as passengers in cars and as bicycle users. We looked at some different scenarios and decided whether people were in a safe or unsafe situation. We did a Kahoot quiz too! Maple and Laurel were very good at discussing Road Safety - they now need to go home and share their learning with their family.

This week, the whole School is taking part in Road Safety Awareness week. We begun the week with an assembly by Miss Moyes thinking about all the people that use the roads and pavements and all the things that are in place to keep us safe whilst using them. We then thought about how we need to take responsibility for our own safety and explored some of the ways we could do this.
The children in Reception were visited by Zoe our School Crossing Patrol. She talked to the children about how to cross the road safety and reinforced some of the dangers.

The children then went out on to Dinmore Avenue and practised crossing the road safely.
When they returned to the classroom the children enjoyed role playing in the outside area, making sure they stopped at the zebra crossing to let people cross and wait at the curb until it is safe to go.

This half term we will be completing our Fit2Go programmes with Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The programme consists of a practical lesson and a theory lesson. Each week there is a different theme to the week.
Week one: Healthy lifestyles
Week two: The Eat Well Guide
Week three: Physical activity
Week four: It's all about balance
Week five: Snacks and label reading
Week six: Teeth and hydration
For our theory about healthy lifestyles this week, we looked at what we need to stay healthy. For example, 9-11 hours sleep, drink water and a balance of foods from different food groups. Then for our practical we did some warm ups and then played dodgeball.

Today, Year Two took part in a Primary Futures event called 'Who's line is it anyway?'. We met three different people who all had Christmas jobs and we had to guess what their job was from the clues they gave. We met a range of interesting people including: Pia the Christmas decorator, Sarah the theatre director and Shaun the chef at Buckingham Palace. Finally, there was a surprise mystery guest who surprised the children.

The children in Reception were very excited to explore the outside area where they found ice in the most unusual places!
Water left in buckets, trays, and bowls had frozen over night as the temperatures fell. They chatted together about how the ice had formed, why it was wet, slippy and turning into water.
"It is very cold and the water in the bucket turned to ice" Clio.
"It feels wet and slippy" Phoebe.
"Look! Water...the ice is melting and turning into water" Miley.

During this Primary Futures video, we looked at different festive careers. The Children met Katie the brand manager of a wrapping paper company, Jason the craftsman at Buckingham Palace, Andrew and Jane the Christmas tree grower and decoration shop owner and Oliver the warehouse manager for Crisis Christmas centres supporting vulnerable people experiencing homelessness.

This year for our enterprise task we have been making and preparing 'Reindeer Food' for Christmas Eve and Sweet Bags for the Christmas festivities. We spoke about what enterprise means and understood that we were making things to be sold. The 'Reindeer Food' and Sweet Bags will be sold at the school Christmas Fair next Wednesday!
Year 4 - Digestive System Model

This week we used our knowledge of the digestive system to create a model. First, we looked at the start of the digestive system (the mouth). We broke up crackers with our hands then chewed one for a minute. The chewed crackers was broken down much more and had less starch in because of an enzyme called amylase in our saliva. This aids digestion. Then we use tights to model our intestine, a food bag to model our stomach, a cup to model our rectum and a hole in the cup to model the anus. We mixed up food and drink in the 'stomach' and churned it with our hands. Then we pushed the food through the 'intestine'. We could see all the liquid seeping out of the tights (this is the nutrients and water being absorbed into the body). After the food had passed through the intestines, it was stored in the 'rectum' before leaving the 'body' through the 'anus'.

We started our first of three Forest School sessions today. As the cold has drawn in, more and more grass and mose has got in and around the pond area. The children did an amazing job clearing it out. They also made crowns and head gear with bendy branches, leaves and wool. It was very muddy today and the children simply enjoying some messy play too!
Key Stage 2 Cross Country Race 2

On Wednesday morning, 13 of our KS2 pupils from Year 4-6 travelled to Stanley Park to take part in the second Cross Country race of this academic year.
The course was a long and wet one, with plenty of muddy trainers crossing the finish line, but our Boundary pupils showed fantastic determination to secure some fantastic finishing positions. Each place gains points for our school, and after 2 races we are currently third out of all participating Blackpool schools. Many of our pupils who took part in the first race showed improvement in their finishing positions, which is great to see.
There are 6 races in total, with 4 coming up in 2023. Keep your eyes peeled as we gain more points that will see us progress up the table!

Today Year 6 were visited by 2 local magistrates. They gave the children information about the role of a magistrate and how they make their decisions when it comes to choosing the punishments given to those who have broken the law. We then acted out a mock trial where a child had been found guilty of cyber bullying through sending mean and threatening messages to another girl. We all enjoyed taking on our roles and acting them out.
Reception Exploring Differences

During Anti-Bullying Week Reception have been busy exploring similarities and differencesand discussing what make everyone unique. We talked about how lots of people have similarities and differences but it is always important to be kind, respect one anothers differences and celebrate what makes them unique.

We talked about how it is okay to be different and how we should always treat people equally and kindly regardless of their differences.

On Friday, the children in Reception joined the whole school in raising money for Children In Need. They came to school in something spotty to support the national charity that helps improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
They took home their own designed Pudsey Bear and danced the Macarena in a whole school assembly.

During Anti-Bullying week, Year 1 explored different types of bullying. We read the story 'Carrot Club,' which reminded us not to judge others by their appearance and to think positively about healthy eating! We discussed what we thought bullying is and learnt the thorough definition. We then learnt about different types of bullying, including physical, verbal, cyber and indirect.
'Indirect bullying could be leaving people out of games'

We discussed lots of examples together and then moved on to talking about what we could do in certain situations.

Today we had a visit from Debby Savage, a local PSCO, who delivered a 2-hour talk to Year 6 about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. We had the chance to look at imitation drugs to know what they look like so that we know to avoid them as we get older - we were shocked to learn that some drugs can be disguised as sweets! She also told us the dangers of smoking and vaping. We learned that cigarettes are made up of lots of different parts - many of which can be very dangerous, such as amonia, glycerin, candle wax. Thank you Debby for such an informative talk.

Today we watched a video from Primary Futures, about gender stereotypes. The video began by explaining that we were going to be introduced to 4 people whose jobs were:
- Tree surgeon
- Engineer
- Forest school leader
- Nurse
Before we actually saw the people, we had a good discussion as a class about what gender we thought the person who did each job would be. We realised that some of us went straight to a specific gender due to our preconceptions about the roles of men and women in society. We then agreed that we can't make assumptions on people based solely on their gender.

Year 6 Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination

As part of antibullying week, Year 6 have been focusing on stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination. We explored the meaning of each word before going on to find out how they can affect people. As part of the lesson, we completed two activities. In the first one, we looked at real news articles and discussed what prejudice had been shown and whom it was directed towards. The second activiity was based in the TV show 'The Apprentice'. We had to select an engineer for a project and 'fire' people based on information provided. We discussed prejudice and discrimination based on name, age, skin colour, disability, gender and sexuality.

Today we watched a video about gender stereptypes from Primary Futures. We were introduced to four people (two men and two women). All four people described their job to us and we had to guess what we thought they did. Their jobs were:
- Tree surgeon (female)
- Engineer (female)
- Forest school leader (male)
- Nurse (male)
We didn't guess all their jobs currently, but we had a discussion about jobs not being stereotyped to one gender and the children had some great discussions.
