On a very windy Monday evening and having been rehearsing since September, Boundary joined pupils from virtually every Blackpool school at The Grand Theatre, performing hundreds of songs and dances, playing in bands and orchestras and enjoying a wonderful introduction to theatre!
Pupil's from Years 5 an 6 performed a medley of songs from Oliver and WOW, they were amazing! The hard-work, determination, perseverance and team work that each child demonstrated throughout each rehearsal and during the final performance really paid off - we could not be more proud of each and every performer!
Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to watch and to the children and staff for the time and energy they put into rehearsing and the final show.

The mini-cadets have been working with another of the emergency services this week. During the session, they learnt about the range of jobs fire fighters have to attend, explored a fire engine and even tested out the hose. They learnt how the police and fire service have to work well together in emergencies and how they support each other to keep the public safe.

We have had an informative afternoon, where Lancashire Fire Service came in to discuss the importance of having good 'Road Sense'. We looked at the importance of wearing a seatbelt, using a booster seat (up to 135cm in height), using helmets, being visible from dusk and crossing roads safely. We all showed a good understanding of how to be safe when walking to and from school and the importance of always using these rules, even when we go to high school.
Thank you again to Firefighter Luke and Will, who came in to see us - it was an extremely informative and relevant session.

The mini-cadets were out and about again today. This week, they were thinking about road safety and monitoring the speed of the cars in our local area. Luckily, nobody was breaking the speed limit on their watch.

In Platform 1 we have been working really hard on our social skills. These social skills have included sharing, taking turns, helping each other and team work. We have had fun putting these skills into practise when playing team games and building jigsaws together.

The mini-cadets visited the Head Quarters this week and worked with the Lancashire Constabulary TacOps team! They learnt all about the how the team keep the roads safe and running smoothly and how they deal with road traffic accidents.

Today the children in reception celebrated odd socks day by wearing odd sock to school. We talked about how the children are similar and different and the children made some fantastic comments. We used mirrors to look at our faces and discussed our likes and dislikes. Here are some of the comments that the children made.
"Ihave brown hair but Jazmine's is yellow. It's different to mine"
"Some people have glasses to see but I don't need them"
"Mrs Farley is taller than Mrs Clark"
"Some people have brown skin but they are still my friend because they like batman like me"
"If your different it doesn't matter. If we looked the same you wouldn't know who we was"
The children then enjoyed collaging and painting their very own odd socks!

Today was national Anti-Bullying day. Our theme was 'change starts with us'. We talked about what bullying is - something that is hurtful that happens over and over again, we thought about how it might make someone feel if they were being bullied and what we could do if we saw someone being bullied. Should we be be a bystander or an upstander .... and upstander!!! Our class pledge is to be kind and helpful.

Danceathon, spots and Pudsey Bear! What a great day we had in Year 1 for children in need. We started our morning by doing our Children In Need danceathon. Children all over the country took part and we wanted to join in too. We enjoyed learning the dance, it was great fun, a way to support charity and good exercise for our bodies. In writing we wrote about Pudsey Bear. We had to make a fact poster and an opinion poster. What food do we think Pudsey bear would like to eat? What do we think Pudsey bear might like to do? These were all our opinions. Finally we ended the day with a whole school Children in Need assembly. Everyone looked different .... because we were all spotty!

As part of Anti-Bullying Day 2019, Year 4 took part in a number of classroom activities beginning with a whole class discussion about bullying; what it is, how we can report it and how to better understand that people's differences make them unique and special. Then, we moved on to creating our own pledge as to how we could stop bullying, support those people who might feel lonely or believe they have no friends and, most importantly, how to recognise what makes us unique! #ChangeStartsWithUs #BoundaryBelieves

The Year 5 Mini-Cadets enjoyed their first trip to the West Division Police Headquarters. They had a tour of the building watching all the busy officers at work and learning about the rank structures. The cadets also spent some time in the different police vans; it was very exciting going for a drive and turning the sirens on!

This half term in Year 4 we learnt about democracy and had a visit from MP Paul Maynard. He gave our applicants advice on how to write a successful manifesto. Once our applicants had written their manifestos they presented them to their class. Once all the children had read their manifestos the children in Year 4 voted for their new school councillors. We now have two successful new councillors who have already attended their first council meeting.

Year 2 spent the morning voting for their new Class Councillor representative. Candidates read their manifestos to the class to help the children make some very important decisions. We then went and placed our very important votes into the ballot box. Congratulations to Callum and Talon who were elected. I'm sure they're going to do a fantastic job.
The One With The Harvest Assembly!

Today Year 6 led the school in the annual Harvest assembly. The children explained the history of harvest and how we should be thankful for the food we have to eat. We also discussed World Food Day and how we should work together to help put a stop to world hunger. We were joined by Matt Rowley from the Church Army, who also spoke of the importance of helping others and being thankful for what we have. After the assembly, we delivered all the items that had been donated to Vincent House - a charity which helps and supports the homeless in our local area.

This week in Reception we have been thinking about ourselves and our families. We have been painting self portraits, making our faces using loose parts, drawing and labelling our families, role playing in our home corner and talking about all the special activities we do together as a family. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the children further and finding out more about their families and friends.

The children have had a great first week in Reception! They have been busy exploring the classroom environment, making new friends and get use to the new rules and routines.
As part of the children's induction period we have been focusing on ensuring the children fully understand the classroom rules and expectations, can recognise their name on sight and can write it correctly forming their letters properly. The children have been working very hard and we are looking forward to having them in school next week for lunch.

We have been having a wonderful time learning all about 'Under the Sea.' We have all enjoyed learning about the creatures that live under the sea and what they look like! Our children in Nursery brought in some very interesting facts about sea creatures for their BLT, and we all enjoyed sharing these facts with our friends! We have read stories including 'Billy's Bucket,' 'The Rainbow Fish' and 'Commotion in the Ocean.' We have taken part in lots of arts and crafts activities using different materials and techniques such as painting, cutting, folding, printing and drawing.

This week, we have enjoyed learning all about why we pay tax! We had a visit from HMRC, who showed us why it is so important to pay tax and where our money goes. We were very surprised to learn about the history of Jaffa Cakes and how they caused so much controversy - cake or biscuit?
We also had the chance to take part in an activity and decide where our taxes should go. We had to choose between healthcare, education and the armed forces. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has a really tough job!
Money, Money, Money - and Taxes!

On Tuesday we had an interesting visit from HMRC and learnt about who pays taxes, what the taxes pay for in the country and some weird facts about taxes! We learnt that people who earn over £12,500 pay 20% of their wages as tax, which the Chancellor of the Exchequer decides how to spend. We learnt that most of the money is spent on health, education, the armed forces with some being spent on cultural developments and protecting the environment.
Weird Facts - In the olden days there used to be taxes on windows so people bricked them up and in Russia they had a beard tax! McVities also took HMRC to the High Court to prove that Jaffa Cakes were a cake because they went stale instead of soft like a biscuit.
We then thought about our own values and spending and how we are influenced to spend or save money. After discussing our choices, we thought about the impact of our spending on other people in the world and the environment, e.g. single use plastics and cheap clothes!

Today, Year 6 took part in a 90 minute online safety talk with Bernadette from WIRED. The session talked about how we can stay safe online and the dangers of being on social media sites. She went through ways in which APPs like Tik Tok can be dangerous/inappropriate for children and what children should be looking at if they do go on these sites.
We are also having another talk next week to go further into online safety.
Rainbow Laces Day; Celebrating Diversity

This week we have been taking part in ‘Rainbow Laces Day’ which is a chance to celebrate diversity and learn about the importance of respecting other people’s differences. We learned about a variety of sports people who are all LGBT, including Tom Daley and Colin Jackson. We discussed that all people are worthy of respect and it is wrong to disrespect people because they are LGBT.

This week we have been doing lots of activities around Anti-bullying day. We thought about how we can be kind and support each other, how we can make sure everyone has a friend and who and where we can go if we feel upset or need to share something with someone. We also all wore odd socks to celebrate our differences and anti-bullying day. it is our differences that we need to celebrate and these differences which make us special. On Rainbow Laces day, we learnt about stereotyping in sport. We discussed who imagined when we said the sports: gymnastics, ballet, football and swimming. We looked at famous males and females in these sports and the amazing accomplishments that they have achieved. By the end of the session, we had a good understanding that it doesn’t matter what gender we are, we should play sports that interest us most.
We learnt that we should not stereotype people or judge them based on their looks or genders. Be who you want to be and do the things that make you smile!

This week in Reception the children have been introduced to our first characteristics monster ‘Katie Kindness’. Katie Kindness has been teaching the children all about the importance of being kind to one another by sharing, taking turns, including everyone in your games, helping someone if they are hurt and using kind words and actions. Mrs Clark and Mrs Farley have spotted lots children showing kindness to others and we have been very proud of all the children. As a class we talked about how we could show kindness and how it makes us feel.
