Year 5 Exploring mountains of the UK through Maps

We have been looking at the atlases to find the Mountain ranges of the UK and the highest peaks in the 4 countries. We practised a loop card game and continued to learn through the use of Kahoots quiz!

As we continue our unit Dancing Through the Ages, we have looked at some common dance moves from the HipHop genre and created our own motifs in time to the music. We tried to work at different levels, in unison and in canon so that we could add some interesting dynamics to the dance routine. We had to negotiate and work together as a team to create our motif and perform it to the rest of the class.

Monday 26th September was European Day of Languages. Miss Ashton started the day with an assembly, which focused on the characteristic of perseverance. This links to learning a new language, as you need to persevere when learning a new skill. She talked about the benefits of learning a new language including communicating and developing a better understanding of different cultures. In class the children have been learning some simple phrases in European languages such as Polish, Spanish, Romanian and German.

For our final day we took part in activities such as: low ropes, challenge course, survivor and trapeze. We have all had a great time on our residential and have made memories that will stay with us for a long time!

Year 3- Our First Royal Ballet Experience!

In Year 3, we were lucky enough to have our first Royal Ballet workshop today. We learnt some new French vocabulary and ballet moves. We were accompanied by a brilliant musician to dance to. The children really enjoyed the experience and we are looking forward to the rest of the workshops.
Year 4 Queen Elizabeth II tribute

On Friday, we learned more about Queen Elizabeth II's love for corgis and horses. Over her lifetime, the Queen had over 60 dogs and numerous horses - her favourite being Burmese a Canadian horse. The children used numerous images showing this love for animals to create collages. We think they look fantastic!

Today we learnt about the Christian belief that the Church community is like a family and considered why it might be important to welcome new people into the Church family. We listened to the story ‘All Are Welcome’ and discussed the different ways the characters were made welcome and how we make new children feel welcome in our classroom.
We learnt that parents ask for the child to be baptised so that it can belong to this family and develop a relationship with God. We discussed the importance of Christians making new members of the church family welcome. We then completed a task in groups to recognise and name basic artifacts and practices of a Christian baptism.
Year 5 Safe Skills in Forest School

Today was about gaining some skills in being safe around equipment, in particular, knives, axes and mallets. We cut some sticks down, used the knives and peelers to whittle them to a flat surface and decorated them as tree markers. We also made a small safe fire and cooked the harvest of pears, which were delicious. We also built dens, created our own games, found another frog and worked well as a team on our knots!

Today we took part in a shared writing session. We had to work as a team to devise a paragraph that would work as part of a biography for Ellen White, who was one of the England Team for the Euro's in 2022. We needed to include the features we had been learning about, including third person and past tense. We managed to manipulate some of the sentences to include fronted adverbial phrase.
Year 2- Exploring the Commonwealth

As part of our remembrance of the Queen, Year 2 explored the commonwealth. We looked at the 56 countries that are part of the commonwealth and identified some of these places on a world map as well as exploring each of the nations different flags. Also, we discussed the role the Queen had in the commonwealth and looked at a variety of pictures of her visiting the different members. We found it interesting looking at pictures of the Queen from the time across her reign and created a collage using pictures, flags and facts to display our learning.
Nursery Become Archaeologists!

After reading "Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs go to School" nursery immersed themselves in all things dinosaur! We looked for dinosaur bones and fossils and one day we even found some dinosaur eggs! We waited patiently for the babies to hatch and then had great fun making up stories about the dinosaurs together. The children also learnt about shapes by creating shape dinosaurs and worked together to paint some big dinosaurs!
Year 4's Trip to Boundary's Roman Museum

Today Redcliffes turned into Boundary's Roman museum. The children had the chance to explore lots of aspects of Roman life and their invasion and reign over Britain. Children looked at artefacts and examples of lots of Roman equipment, utensils, coins and a fantastic replica of a legionary's amour - some even tried it on! It was SO heavy!

This week we began learning about Christianity by exploring families and belonging. We explored the fact that all families are unique and discussed who is in our family. We thought about different relationships and about how they might be similar and different to others. We learnt that Christians believe that God is like a father who guides them and helps them. We then created our own family portrait, sharing our ideas with others to two key questions. What makes a good family? How do families look after each other and look after children?
Reception 's First Week at School- Indoor Fun!

What an exciting week it has been! The children in Reception have had a great time exploring their new classrooms and learning both inside and outside. They have made new friends, got to know all their teachers and are beginning to understand the new rules and routines of Reception.

Year 5 Art begins with Typography

We have started our learning in Art by creating our own different styles of Typography. We learnt that typography is any form of print style designed to create an idea or emotion. We learned about Louise Fili who is a famous graphic designer who created posters for the New York Subway using different type fonts. By cutting up paper and sketching, we started to create our own letters.
Year 5 A Fresh look at Forest School

What a great time of Year to be outdoors! We managed to avoid the showers and had a lovely morning exploring the Forest School environment. We went on a mini beast hunt with the magnifying glasses and observed the habitats. We found lots of insects, arachnids and bugs lurking under the rocks and logs. A Frog leapt in! We all looked at it's camoflage, while learning the differences between frogs and toads. There was lots of seasonal fruit including mini apples, pears and plums, but they weren't yet ripe enough to pick. We also explored and enjoyed spending time with our friends outdoors and catching up casually after the holidays.
Karson planted some trees using the fallen fruit's seed.
Harley enjoyed working with his team to build dens and shelters.
Molliemae worked with her friends to make a chill out zone in their den, with books and colouring.
Darin made a cake masterpiece recipe including flowers, mud and fruits. He used his imagination to create a bakery business too!

We started our Rubgy lessons today with Tom from Wigan Warriors. We will be learning lots of new rugby skills over this half term when Tom comes in every Thursday! We absolutely loved it. We learned how to hold the rugby ball and even started to tag each other with it when we were trying to score a try!
Year 2 - Promises, promises, promises.

The beginning of a new school year is the perfect time to recap on our all important Boundary Promises. We discussed why we have rules and why they are important in a range different of environments, not just in school. We then recapped on our five key Always Promises at Boundary; be in the right place at the right time with the right things, act with honesty and respect, always try your best, work well together and use safe and friendly words and behaviours. We then worked well together to sort different scenarios, discuss how they linked to each Promise and whether they were a good choice or a bad choice.
Nursery Get off To A Flying start!

We have been having a wonderful time in nursery getting to know all of our new starters. It looks like we are going to be in for a fabulous year with a super bunch of children! They have been working so hard to learn all of the routines and have really impressed us with how quickly the are learning everything. The children have demonstrated some great PSED skills by making friends and playing well together. They have also been showing their super drawing skills by making some wonderful self-portraits. What a great start!

We are delighted that over summer our new History timelines have been installed in the school main hall. We have had two installed. One is about world history and includes events such as world wars, the invention of the internet and legalisation of gay marriage. The other timeline is all about our local area of Blackpool. Underneath our Blackpool timeline we have maps of how the area of Layton and Grange Park has changed too!
Year 2's Final Forest School Fun

Yesterday saw our final forest school session of Year 2 before we begin completing our passport in Year 3. This week, we thought about our senses and took a moment to lie on the floor and think about the things we could see, hear, taste, smell and feel- some of us were lucky enough to be joined by a miniature spider. We then looked at different cloud formations and tried to see if we could see any different ones in the sky as well as playing a game of forest school bingo. To end the session, we toasted crumpets on the fire.
Year 4 - Sacrifice and Temptation

In RE we have been learning about sacrifice and temptation. We have looked at when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness and the importance of him suffering for his people. Most recently we have learned about the life of Oscar Romero who was an Archbishop that fought for equality in El Salvador.

This week Reception took part in the Boundary Choral Speaking competition, reciting the nursery rhyme 'Old Mother Hubbard'.
The children tried to communicate the mood through drama, costumes, choreography of body movements and emphasis of certain words in the rhyme.
They were amazing and we are so proud of them all!
