Year 1 Update...
🍂 Year 1 Autumn Term Update 🍂
Year 1 have had a busy and exciting start to the Autumn Term, exploring the different areas within our new classrooms and settling into new routines whilst engaging enthusiastically in all of our learning.
🔢 Maths We have been focusing on place value, exploring numbers to 10 and developing our understanding of the composition of numbers. The children have also been comparing numbers using key mathematical vocabulary such as greater than, less than and equal to.
📚 Reading into Writing This half term, we have enjoyed reading The Colour Monster and Handa's Surprise. We began by sequencing the stories before retelling them in our own words. The children have started using adjectives to describe characters and are working hard to apply the basic writing skills of capital letters and full stops in their independent writing.
✏️ Handwriting We have been enjoying continuing our handwriting journey and learning all about the Jumper Family letters.
⛪ RE Our focus religion is Christianity. We have been learning about God and the church, and so far we have explored what a baptism is and the important objects and symbols that are used during one.
🔬 Science In Science, we have been learning about our senses. The children enjoyed going on a sound hunt around the school grounds, identifying different things they could hear as well as things they could see, helping them to understand how we use our senses every day.
🏃 PE In PE, we have been developing our fundamental movement skills. This week, we focused on jumping and practised using the correct technique to jump safely and effectively.
We are incredibly proud of how well the children have settled into Year 1 and the enthusiasm they bring to their learning every day. We are looking forward to continuing our learning journey throughout the rest of the half term and sharing more of our achievements with you soon! ⭐🍁
