We loved making our fruit kebabs and trying the different fruits.

We all threaded our fruit, choosing between, orange, apple, pear, strawberry, kiwi and grapes, onto our kebab sticks and then ate them or explored the fruit with our lips, tongues and fingers.
Acorns - Health and Wellbeing week

Boundary has been celebrating Health and Wellbeing week. We have being exploring how to keep our bodies healthy through diet and exercise. Acorns have enjoyed making fruit kebabs, vegetable tasting and moving our bodies in different ways.
To support our learning and understanding we have been reading Supertato and engaging in a variety of activities around the book, developing our fine motor skills with potato peg hammering and pea mashing (our favourite) and reducing the vegetables, mark making and counting vegetables. We have had lots of fun, take a look.
We can't wait for our stay and play sports session next week.

This week Acorns have been reading "Oh! Dear" and learning about the life cycle of a duck. We have loved observing the ducks over the last two weeks, watching them hatch and grow.
We have also been exploring farm animals and the babies, developing our understanding of animal names, sounds, and what their young were called. We enjoyed matching objects to pictures and matching the adults to their young.
we made our own hatching ducks in art, getting messy and using our handprints for their wings. Wow! It's been a busy week. Enjoy looking.

Acorns have been using their music sessions to explore instruments but also to support the learning and progression in a variety of areas, including being part of a group, sustaining focus and concentration and engagement.
This week Acorns have been focusing on making and communicating choices verbally and non verbally, using visuals and signing. After exploring a bariety of instruments, we engaged in choosing our preferred instrument out of a choice of three. The recorder, drum or xylophone. Mrs Richardson modelled choice making and we all communicated a choice, including not wanting to play an instrument. Take a look at our learning!
Acorns - Sam plants a sunflower

Acorns have enjoyed listening and interacting with this weeks story "Sam plants a sunflower". We have used the story to continue to develop our learning in small group activities and sensory activities.
We loved planting our own sunflowers and learning how a plant grows. Especially the water spray!
In art, we developed our cutting skills, creating our own sunflowers.

We have some new arrivals in school this week. On Monday , we had a delivery of eggs and an incubater. On Tuesday Acorns went to visit the eggs and noticed some were cracked and one was moving, with a beak peeping out. We were excited to see some duckling hatching.

We were even more excited to see one of the ducks that had already hatch and touch their soft fur. We will be visiting the ducklings regularly over the next couple of weeks and watching how they grow.

Wow! Our butterflies have emerged from their chrysalis!
We were excited to see our butterflies fluttering around. We looked at the chrysalis that they had emerged from and then watched them flying around and eating some food.
We learnt the butterfly Makaton sign and some of us tried to copy it.

This week we have been exploring the life cycle of a bean and reading Jasper's Beanstalk. We've enjoyed using lots of props during story telling, especially getting wet with the water spray!
We planted our own beans and are excited to water them daily, watching and waiting for the shoots to appear.
We've also been very creative this week, finishing our caterpillars ready to plant them with cress and using potatoes to print leaves onto our beanstalks.

Wow! Our caterpillars have changed into chrysalis. We were so excited to see our caterpillars have started their change into butterflies.

As the weather has improved, Acorns have introduced Funky Feet in the afternoons. Funky Feet is a sensory regulation walking activity which engages multiple senses of the body, and supports the nervous system, emotional wellbeing and self regulation.
We enjoy following the footsteps around the playground, moving in different ways and then exploring the trim trail. We will be enjoying this activity for the next two terms while the sun is shining.
Acorns - The Hungry Caterpillar

Acorns have enjoyed listening to the Hungry Caterpillar this week and engaging in a variety of multisensory activities to develop their understanding and engagement.
We have loved looking at our very own caterpillars and watching them grow bigger and bigger and learning about the butterfly life cycle.

This week Acorns enjoyed a visit from some tadpoles to class. We loved looking at them swimming around in their watery habitat. We have been exploring the life cycle of frogs through songs, learning activities and multi sensory experiences and stories..

Acorns had an enjoyable week exploring what Easter means to different people. We listened to the Easter story, created lots of Easter art and enjoyed lots of sensory activities.
Our favourite was the Easter egg hunt, we enjoyed searching for lots of different colourful eggs hidden around the playground.
We also had great fun making fruit kebabs and exploring different fruits through our senses. All ready for nexts term's theme of growing.

This term during maths we have been exploring mass and capacity. We have enjoyed engaging in lots of hands on activities to explore the concepts of full and empty, hot and cold, big and small and heavy and light. We have enjoyed the practical activities with visual supports to support our learning and develop our understanding.

Acorns have been developing their climbing and balancing skills this term and exploring the different ways our bodies can move.
We have enjoyed balancing along the benches, moving forwards, sideways and backwards, as well as crawling and pulling ourselves along. We have practiced jumping off the benches from different heights and climbing on and off safely.
Acorns have also enjoyed exploring sausage rolls and forward rolls with the support of the large yoga ball. We also use our PE sessions to develop our turn taking and waiting skills during these activities.

Acorns have enjoyed their music sessions this term. We have used the weekly sessions to explore the recorder and xylophone.
We have loved creating our own music and developing our focus and concentration skills and learning to work in a small group adult led activity for extended periods.
Acorns - Walking through the Jungle

Acorns have loved exploring animals and their habitats this week. We have enjoyed multi sensory activities along with our story, Walking Through the Jungle, to support our learning, understanding and engagement.
We enjoyed exploring that people live in homes and different animals live in different places including jungles, oceans, mountains and deserts, but we all lived together on Earth.

Acorns were excited to welcome their families into class for our Easter stay and play. We enjoyed hunting for eggs in the hay, decorating Easter eggs and trying to balance eggs on towers.
Acorns children enjoyed sharing an Eater Bucket time activity with their families and showing what all the excitement is about.

Acorns had a fabulous time visiting Blackpool Zoo today. The sun was shining and the children were amazing. We loved looking at all the different animals including elephants, lions and tigers, giraffes, lots of different monkeys and apes and our favourites, the sea lions! We enjoyed repeating their animal names and even tried signing them. We also listened to the different sounds and loved feeling the raised animal sketches around each area. We had a great day!
Acorns - Science Day & Baby animals

Acorns have enjoyed lexploring and learning about jungle animals this week. We have been reading Rumble in Jungle and looking at lots of different animals and their jungle habitat.
Acorns loved their visit from the animals. We met Roger the sloth and Derrick the parrot. We loved feeling how soft their fur was and exploring where their eyes nose and mouths were. Especially when they had a little peck!

This week Acorns have started exploring the signs of spring. Today we went on a spring walk around our forest school area to look for the signs of spring.
We were excited to find a variety of items from our checklist, including buds, blossom, insects and some frog spawn. We enjoyed watching the insects crawling around the logs and tried touching the new buds, blossom and leaves to see how soft they felt. We even listened to some birds singing.
We also enjoyed exploring our new trim trail. What a great afternoon!

Acorns have been exploring the concept of space over the last two weeks. Our sensory story Whatever Next! follows a teddy bear who flies to the moon in a cardboard box for a picnic. We have had lots of fun trying on our space helmet and flying to the moon in our own box, developing our imaginations, engagement in group activities and taking turns with a rocket to play with.
We have been busy making space rockets and aliens during arts and crafts, counting backwards in maths as we blast into space and developing our focus and concentration with space themed 'Bucket' activities.

Acorns loved engaging in world book day activities. We looked fantastic in our outfits.
We enjoyed lots of mark making with crayons until they quit and we had to use different mediums including paint and chalk instead.
We all engaged in listening to the story for a short burst and loved listening to each other’s stories that we came dressed up in.

Acorns enjoyed lots of fun and messy play on pancake day. We even made our own pancake faces with a choice of fruit. Some of us tried the bananas or strawberries and enjoyed eating the pancakes.
Acorns - Commotion in the Ocean

This terms topic is Let's go wild! This week Acorns have been reading Commotion in the Ocean and learning about all things fishy!
We enjoyed listening to the story and exploring all the different animals. We hunted for the animals in our understanding the sea tuff tray and developed our counting skills, counting the sea creatures during maths.
We loved the sensory spaghetti seaweed in our outdoor area and getting messy playing with the animals alongside our peers.
