This term Acorns have been learning about all creatures great and small. So far we have been looking at minibeasts. We enjoyed learning about the different minibeasts and looking for them in our outdoor area. In art we created our very own minibeasts habitats.
We are now exploring mega beasts and have begun to collage a variety of larger animals, making choices about the patterned papers to use in our collage.

Acorns have been enjoying Kurling this term in PE. We have been developing skills such as waiting, taking turns, following instructions and working together as a team during our sessions. This week we all waiting for Mrs Richardson to so go and then all pushed our Kurling equipment together. What great learning.

We have been developing our understanding of wait and waiting this week as our core word. We have been engaging in activities where we were waiting for things to happen, Developing our patience and anticipation, use of Makaton and visuals.

Despite the rising temperatures, Acorns have enjoyed engaging in sports and health week. We looked at healthy food and enjoyed tasting a variety of fruit, developing our communication and choice making using communication boards. We enjoyed gymnastics with Mr Ratcliff.
We had enjoyed designing our own football and football kits too.

Acorns had the pleasure of Year 5 pupils taking over the class as teachers and teaching assistants supporting their understanding of careers within the school. They engaged the children in a variety of activities developing their learning and social skills. Acorns thoroughly enjoyed this experience.

This term we are exploring the topic "All creatures great and small". We have been learning about the duck life cycle. We have developed our engagement through Bucket Time activities, exploring chicks hatching from an egg and a feather fountain. Followed by learning that ducklings hatch from an egg, eggs have hard shells and ducks have soft feathers. We then had the pleasure of meeting our ducklings who have hatched last week in school.

Acorns have been exploring the concept of full and empty. We have been developing our engagement and learning as part of adult led activities, taking turns and using hands on experience to support our understanding. We are also developing our use of communication boards to support our learning. We had lots of fun filling and emptying different containers both with liquids and solids.

Over the past two weeks, Acorns have been learning the core word "put". Using visuals, makaton and actions to develop an understanding of the meaning and developing our sight reading and writing skills. We have been putting things on us, on objects and in a variety of things.

This term Acorns have had caterpillars join our class. We have enjoyed watching them grow bigger and bigger and turning into a chrysalis. We waited for the chrysalis to turn into butterflies and finally today they hatched. We enjoyed watching Mrs Richardson release them outside.

Acorns had a fantastic sports day event on Tuesday. We loved welcoming our parents to join us and enjoyed lots of different activities.

Our core word is get. We have been reading it, writing it, looking at the letter sounds and developing our understanding of its meaning. We have been engaging in shared learning experiences, using some of our favourites resources, visuals and sound buttons to support our understanding of the meaning get. Please continue to encourage your children to get things at home.

Acorns enjoyed spending some time in the outdoor learning area. We had lots of fun explirung the area looking for shells, recognising numbers and counting them. We shared our sensory story, sharing a shell and loved touching and feeling the different objects and looking at a variety of different types of shells. Some of us continued to count the shells, some of us made patterned and some of us unjoued playing in the learning area.

This term we have been exploring houses. During our art sessions we have created a house and sorted objects to go into a living room and a bathroom. Developing engagement in adult led activities, understanding and independence during activities.

Acorns have spent a fantastic day visiting Blackpool zoo. All our children were great and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We loved looking at all the differnt animals, having a turn on the turtle truck and watching the volcano explode!

🏅 Inter-School Sports Fun with Synergy Trust 🏅
On the morning of 20th April, we were delighted to host an inter-sports event at Boundary 🏫 for our Acorns children, welcoming pupils from other schools within our Synergy Trust, including Moor Park, Stanley and Highfurlong 🤝
The event focused on enjoyment 😊, participation 🙌 and teamwork 🤸♀️, while providing opportunities for children to develop key fundamental skills such as balancing ⚖️ and throwing 🎾 in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment 💛. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, confidence-building 🌟 and smiling faces 😄 throughout the day!
A huge thank you to all the schools and staff who supported this event and helped make it such a success 👏👏 We are proud to work together to create positive sporting experiences for all our children 🏃♂️🏃♀️🌈
Acorns - synergy trust sports morning

This week some of Acorns enjoyed taking part in our Synergy trust sports morning. Pupils joined us at Boundary, from Moore Park, Highfurlong and Stanley Park for a fun morning of sports and social interactions with their peers. We had a great time and look forward to doing again.

This term, in PE we are developing our fundamental skills and focusing on developing our body movements. This week we have been focusing on jumping safely on and off equipment, jumping forwards and up into the air.
We have enjoyed using bubbles to jump up to pop and hoops to jump forward and across the room. We used different sized climbing equipment to practise jumping off safely onto mats.

This term, during sensory cooking, we are developing our cutlery skills. Today we have been exploring cutting with a knife, using a pincer or bridge grasp or a fork to hold the food in place. We all engaged with cutting soft potatoes and then mashing, rolling and squeezing it into shapes. Lots of fun and sensory exploration. Some of us enjoyed tasting it too.

Acorns loved our sensory cooking experience this week. We explored making Easter biscuits. We loved creating a dough and then rolling, squishing, making patterns and cutting out shapes. We then had fun choosing different colour icing and sprinkles to decorate some we made earlier. Have a look at our fun.

Happy Holidays from Acorns! We have had lots of fun this week incorporating Easter themed activities into our learning, from maths, arts and crafts and our favourite sensory cooking. We have been busy making Easter egg biscuits and going on an egg hunt. Enjoy your break and we will see you after the half term.
Acorns - Core words Here & There

For the last two weeks, we have been developing our understanding of the core words, here and there. We have learned to say them, sign them or use visuals to support our understanding. We have practised reading and writing the words and our favourite has been signing them in our songs, especially Old McDonald, which has help us to learn the words in context.
Acorns - Little Red Riding hood

Acorns have been enjoying the sensory story, Little Red Riding Hood. We have loved howling like a wolf, having big eyes and ears and watching the teeth chomp, chomp, chomp. We have been learning to say familiar words and phrases to finish a sentence or using visuals cards to help. We have been developing our engagement and learning during a small group activity.

Acorns have enjoyed making Easter nests today. We had fun crumbling the shredded wheat, mixing in the chocolate and then scooping into cake cases. It was a great opportunity to develop our understanding of following simple step by step instructions, modelled by an adult and by visuals.
We then had fun scooping natural yoghurt and mixing it into our left overs.
