No Pens Allowed!

Date: 5th Oct 2021 @ 4:25pm

That's right! Today at Boundary was no pen day, and what a day we've had in Year 4. Lots of great discussion and debates going on in Reading into Writing about the differences between facts and opinions. In maths we were learning about adding 1, 10, 100 and 1000 to a 4-digit number with a fantastic activity to finish off the lesson! The this afternoon is Science we learned all about conductors and insulators of electricity and a good sessions trying and testing those using the circuits. Finally, to finish off the day we showed off our super search engine skills to find out information about a famous person! Unfortunately... Mr McCormack completely forgot at one point today and picked up his pen! He was subsequently told off my the childfren in Maple Class and even by Mr Bamber.

There's A Dragon In Your Book!

Date: 1st Oct 2021 @ 12:17pm

This Week we have been reading the brilliant story "There's A Dragon In Your Book" By Tom Fletcher. This is a great book to share with chilldren as it's really interactive and we had so much fun reading it. The children have had so many experiences linked to the book from putting out the dragons fire to making him some delicious ice cream. They also used their fine motor skills to make dragons with moving parts!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

Date: 29th Sep 2021 @ 8:36pm

In Year 6 we have completed our first Reading into Writing journey: News Articles. Our journey involved reading through lots of examples of news articles so that we could identify the features. We also did lots of GPS work based on direct and reported speech so that we could learn how to use quotes accurately in our writing. We also took part in teacher model and shared write sessions to help us understand exactly how to organise our writing. Finally, we used our trip to PGL to write an article about the experience.

Sing It!

Date: 29th Sep 2021 @ 6:51am

Singing Nursery Rhymes and songs is a very important part of our nursery day. It helps the children to become familar with patterns in langauage, rhyming words and it helps the children develop an ear for our language. Both rhythm anf rhyme help the children to hear the sounds and syllabuls in words, which helps them learn to read! The children love using our special "Sing It" bag as it's full of nursery rhyme props. We pull a prop from the bag and then sing the matching rhyme!

Maths through stories

Date: 28th Sep 2021 @ 8:36pm

This week in maths we have been focusing on learning new mathematical language and exploring its meaning through the use of different stories.  We have been thinking about the words more and less and discussing what they mean. To help use understand this in more depth we role played stories using different props.

We read the story 'A Squash and a squeeze' and talked about how more animlas came into the old ladies house which made it feel very squahed.  We talked about why the lady felt squashed and that is was because the amount of people was getting bigger.  When the old lady took at the animals out we discussed the quantiy was getting smaller because there was less animals.  We also read the story 'A Duck in a Truck".  We made props to help use retell the story and used the language of more as each animal came to help the duck get out of the mud.

The year so far in Year 1!

Date: 28th Sep 2021 @ 7:50am

Year 1 have had a brilliant start to the new school year. We have enjoyed exploring our new classrooms and completing independent tasks in continuous provision, alongside our daily lessons. We have been accurately counting forwards and backwards in maths, writing labels and sentences about 'The Colour Monster' in Reading into Writing and exploring the human body and our five senses in Science. We have also enjoyed our Forest School sessions and exploring our local area

No-Bot The Robot!

Date: 24th Sep 2021 @ 5:09pm

No-Bot the Robot is a  story about Bernard the robot who lost his bottom on a swing at the park. Everytime he thinks he has found it- it disappears again! Fortunatley, Bernard has lots of friends who kindly help him search for his bottom until it is found. It is a story of resillience and friendship.

The children in Reception enjoyed listening to the story with their teacher, looking at the illustrations in the Book Nook, building and creating their own robots with blocks, playdough and art resources. They also talked about the characteristic 'Katy Kindness' and what being a good friend means.

Here's some of the activities we did this week...

The Colour Monster!

Date: 24th Sep 2021 @ 2:05pm

We have really enjoyed reading "The Colour Monster" by Anna Llenas. It's a story about a monster whose feelings are all mixed up but his friend helps him to sort them all out. We explored each of the feelings happy, sad, angry, scared, calm and love and listened to different music that made us feel each of those emotions. Can you spot our happy, angry and sad faces in the photos?

Wonderful Writers

Date: 22nd Sep 2021 @ 4:40pm

Today we have begun to write the first draft of our non-chronological reports about rivers. The pupils are using their plans, which are in note form, to write paragraphs about the different river features found along the river's journey. In the following lessons pupils will edit and improve their drafts, before publishing their final non-chronological report.

Owl Babies

Date: 17th Sep 2021 @ 4:45pm

To help the children settle in to Nursery, we read the story "Owl Babies". It is a story all about three owls called Sarah, Percy and Bill. One day they wake up and their owl mother has gone! Of course she comes back and has only been hunting! We used the story to resassure chidlren that their grown ups will always come back for them. The chidlren showed that they were good listeners as they were able to recall parts of the story and remembered the characters by the end of the week! We also practiced counting to 3 by putting 3 owls on a branch. There was also great excitment when we found three eggs in our Curiosity Cube! The exciment grew when the eggs started to crack and we found three baby owls in the cube!

Knowledge is Power!

Date: 10th Sep 2021 @ 3:31pm

This week in Year 4 we haven't wasted any time at all in getting back into our reading! We try our hardest to read at least once throughout the day to make sure we are expanding our learning and vocabulary. We have a HUGE range of books in our class libraries and have been taking full advantage of them since we have been back at school. This is especially handy as we are learning about fantasy settings in our Reading into Writing lessons! Remember... as Dr. Seuss says 'The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go.'

Reception Baseline Assessment

Date: 7th Sep 2021 @ 7:48am

Information for Reception Parents

Over the next 2 weeks the children in Reception will be participating in the Reception Baseline Assessment.  These assessments will be delivered by your child's class teacher during the school day.  The assessment is made up of two components and assesses children's early skills in mathematics and literacy, communication and language.  Your child's class teacher will use the information from the assessments to plan and deliver sessions pitched at the correct level for each individual child.  Please read the attached leaflet for additional information.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to either Mrs Clark or Mrs Farley.  Many thanks.

Whatever the Weather!

Date: 14th Jul 2021 @ 8:46pm

This week we have been making the most of the lovely weather! We have been taking some time to read independently whilst making the most of our last few days in year one and our outdoor area.

We have all enjoyed taking some time each afternoon to enjoy a range of different books, reading independently or with a friend and then sharing what we had found out.

Whilst reading, we have continued to use the skills we have learnt throughout the year to segment and blend unfamilar words and use picture clues to support our understanding.

Poetry

Date: 9th Jul 2021 @ 8:59am

This week in year 4 the children have explored the genre of poetry by reading various classic poems and highlighting the features of them.

Poo In The Zoo!

Date: 8th Jul 2021 @ 2:01pm

This week we have been reading the story "Poo in the zoo" by Steve Smallman. Poor old Bob the zoo keeper has a lot of poo to clean up at the zoo and one day, to his surprise he finds some glowing poo! The children have loved the story and as well as raising many giggles, we have also found out about herbivores and carnivores and the different foods the eat, discovered a very special insect called a Firefly, made our own sun catcher fireflies and also found some fireflies in our curiosity cube!

Land Ahoy!

Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 12:31pm

Holly class have been extremely busy this week searching for treasure using our own treasure maps, reading pirate stories and telling our own pirate narratives using small world figures. We enjoyed dressing up and making our own huge treasure chest and treasure using junk!

'I've drawn a treasure chest so you know where the treasure is!" Lacey.

"X marks the spot on my map." Kian

"You have to go around the tree to find it!" Leyton.

"It's near the sea!" Oscar

Take a look at what we've been up to!

Now Press Play - Under The Sea

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 3:04pm

The Nursery chilldren took part in a "Now Press Play" activity. Each child had a set of headphones (which they tried so hard to turn on by themselves) and listened to a story set under the sea! They had to listen carefully and follow some instructions and we all went for a swim in the sea, rowed a boat and became a pirate, a jelly fish and a crab!

Spirals!

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 2:51pm

We have been reading a super story this week called "Sharing A Shell" By Julia Donaldson. The children really loved the story and were able to talk about the charcters in the story and the different things they did. We also looked really closely at the different patterns on shells and in particular the spiral. We then created our own spirals by drawing, printing and even baking  - our chocolate swirls were deleicious!

Let's get reading!

Date: 7th Jun 2021 @ 3:21pm

This half term in Reception we are going to be focusing heavily on reading to make sure we are ready for year one.  Our classroom areas have been flooded with different reading challenges giving us lots of opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills we have learnt in our phonics lessons.  We are currently recapping our phase 3 diagraphs to ensure we can recognise them out of context when we are reading our reading books.  Have a look at some of the excited reading challenges we have been completing.

Levers and Sliders Part 1

Date: 20th May 2021 @ 6:31pm

We began the morning by exploring existing products and introducing our new vocabulary. We read each key word and discussed what they mean. We identified which of our key words – lever, slider, pivot, push, pull, direction, up, down, left and right – fit with each example of the mechanism. We then found examples of levers, sliders and wheels in books. We discussed the way the moving part moves, how does it work and what effect is has.

Our first mechanism to make was a slider! We read the Gingerbread man story and talked about which part we might like to turn into a moving picture! Lots of us said a good part of the story to make would be when the characters chase the Gingerbread man and this is the picture we made! To make a part move in our picture we needed to make a sliding mechanism.

Our second mechanism was a lever! For this mechanism we linked our learning to the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We read and discussed the story and we were then ready to turn part of the story into a moving picture using a lever mechanism.

Our third and final new mechanism technique was a wheel. We read the story Little Red Riding Hood, and discussed that we are going to again turn part of the story into a moving picture using a wheel mechanism!

Read, read, read!

Date: 18th May 2021 @ 9:22pm

Reception have been working really hard with our reading.  We have been practising applying our phonic knowledge of phase 3 sounds when reading independently.  We have been using our robot arms to segment and blend the sounds andtrying hard to improve our fluency.  Well done Reception, keep up the hard work.

Introducing the superb cast of a Midsummer Night's Dream!

Date: 17th May 2021 @ 9:03pm

Twenty children from Year Five are going to be a Royal Shakespeare Company film this summer along with children from other local schools. Everyone has been really committed to learning their lines and are enjoying paericipating in such an exciting project! Here are a few photographs of the cast.

Take 10!

Date: 12th May 2021 @ 8:00pm

At 9.50 this morning we listened to Anthony Horrowitz broadcast for the ‘Take 10’ event. We listened to him explain why he enjoys reading, where his favourite place to read is and what his favourite type of books are. At 10 o’clock it was then our turn to read! We each selected a book or comic we wanted to read and had ten minutes of independent reading. After this we then briefly discussed our favourite books and what we like about them. All the children enjoyed having the time to read and talk about books they enjoy!

Take 10

Date: 10th May 2021 @ 4:21pm

At 10am today, we watch Anthony Horrowitz introduce the

Take 10 for Reading!

Date: 10th May 2021 @ 4:19pm

Today we enjoyed learning about Anthony Horowitz's reading experiences and then had 10 minutes in class reading our own books! It was relaxing but we also practised our reading skills!
