Year 2 Lighting the Way in Science Club!

Date: 19th Jan 2022 @ 11:45am

This week in the Year 2 Science Club, we have been experimenting with light.  The children changed the colour of the light using sellotape and felt tip pens.  They then created shadows.  They learnt how each colour has a different wave length of light and how the colour we see in the colour that is not absorbed from the white light that hits the object.  This is then reflected back as the colur of the object.

Addison: “We have learnt that red light has a longer light wave and that violet has a shorter light wave.”

Alena: “A shadow is made from the light being blocked, by an object, from the light source.”

Kyril: “ I like Science Club because I learn new things.  I found out that the closer the torch the bigger the shadow.”

Year 5 Money, Money, Money!

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 8:15pm

So far during Spring 1, Year 5 have been looking at different aspects of finance.

First, we looked at what 'affording' things mean. To do this, we dicussed the difference between wanting and needing things, as well as being able to prioritise those in order of necessity. We had a really good conversation about this and then put our skills to the test... going to an imaginary toy shop and only having a certain amount of money. We then got into a discussion about lending and borrowing money off our friends and the bank.

This week, we looked at what a payslip is and what the information on it means. We then discussed important terms such as gross pay, national insurance and the different types of taxes. Once we knew the difference between council tax and income tax, we went through different services in our community and discussed where the money comes from to fund these.

Year 1 Ordering Objects

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 6:36pm

Today during no pen day we worked practically to order groups of objects. After looking at lots of examples together we worked independently to order groups of objects. We began with 1 set of objects that showed different amounts, e.g. 3 plates of cakes, one with 13, one with 9 and one with 11. We then had to order these objects from smallest to greatest. After completing some of these examples, we worked with varying representations of numbers and ordered them from greatest to smallest.

Reception Who will escape the quickest?

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 6:08pm

Today Recpetion took part in the whole school No Pen Day!  Recpetion were faced with a bit of a challenge.  Marshmellow the snow monster had used his magic powers to freeze Elsa, Ana, Kristoff and Sven.  We have to work together to see which meduim would help them escape the quickest.  We discussed which meduims we could use including washing up liquid, salt, warm water and a scrubby brushy.  As a class we made and prediction and talk about why we thought that.  The children had some fantastic discussions and made some superb observations about what was happening.  They even learnt some new scientific words including melting, freezing, liquid, solid and temperature.

"The ice is melting becuase my hand are hot" Evelyn

"You need something warm to melt it like the sun" Isaac

"It doesn't melt in the freezer because the temperature is cold" Isobelle

"The ice is turning into water when it melts" James

"When it is cold water freezes" Maja

Nursery Architects In the Making!

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 5:24pm

Nursery took part in the whole school no pen day by creating a den for a bear. We have been reading the story "Bear's Winter House" and we decided that the bear might like a bit of help to build his next house. The children made brilliant Architects and used a variety of materials to create a den for the bear. The thought carefully about how to attach the materials to make the house stable and didn't give up when the houses fell down! They were great at working together and listened carefully to each others ideas. I would definitely live in a house built by them!

Year 4 Computing AND Lego?!

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 4:53pm

Computing and Lego? What a lesson that sounds like! Today Year 4 would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Goldie from EdTech who came and taught our computing lesson today. We had a fantastic time and learnt loads about coding. We got to build a Lego snail, and then all through the coding software make the snail make sounds, move, and light up! We can't wait for the next one!

Year 1 'It's The Boy!'

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 4:40pm

Today in Year 1 we had a visit from the character in the story ‘Lost and Found.’ It was the boy! We were all very excited to talk to him and ask him lots of questions. The boy talked to the children about his journey to the South Pole. He explained what he saw, what he heard and how he felt. He then showed us the route he took across the Atlantic and Southern Ocean on our big world map. We gathered lots of information from talking to the boy that will help us to write our recounts!

Year 4 Pas de journ

Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 4:25pm

Today was 'No Pen Day' at Boundary which fitted perfectly into our French lesson this week! We are learning all about our families in French and it gave us a great opportunity for a discussion about all the different people in our families. We were able to ask each other about our different family members and answer back in French! Bon travail Year 4!

Year 1 Microhabitats!

Date: 17th Jan 2022 @ 6:38pm

Today we took our Science lesson outdoors! In our lesson today we were introduced to microhabitats and the animals that live in these small habitats. We looked at some examples of different microhabitats that we might find in the local environment and learnt that microhabitats can be as small as a fallen branch or even the space under a stone! We then recapped on what a minibeast is and looked at some examples of the kinds of microhabitats these creatures might live in. It was then time to go outside into our outdoor areas and forest school space to find some examples of minibeasts and their microhabitats! We also collected our own natural resources to enable us to make our own microhabitats!

Year 5 Quelle Est La Date Aujourd'hui?

Date: 14th Jan 2022 @ 8:30am

In French this week Year 5 have begun learning the months of the year and recapping numbers to 31. We will be using this knowledge to write and say the date in French and, later on in the term, translate diary entries and dates of birth from French to English and vice versa.
We began our journey by looking at images that represent each month and saying the French word for that month out loud. Then, to check our understanding, we played a matching game where we had to pair up each image with its associated month name - we even had to put them in the correct order!

Finally, we once again recapped our number from 1 to 31 by singing along to the French number song - a song which, once you hear it, you can hardly ever forget!

We can't wait to continue our learning!

Year 6 Super Scouts

Date: 14th Jan 2022 @ 8:03am

Today we had a visit from West Lancs Scouts. They came to talk to us about some of the activities that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts take part in and we were shown some of the equipment that a Scout would need to take with them on expeditions. This included a tent, sleeping back, cooking utensils.

If your child is interested in becoming a Beaver, Cub or Scout then there is a taster night being held on Monday 31st January between 6:30pm and 7:30pm. Fliers will be coming home with the children tomorrow,

Year 6 Gymnastics

Date: 14th Jan 2022 @ 8:00am

In gymnastics this week we have been focussing on developing balances with our partner using a range of equipment. We have worked on using our partner for counter-tension and counter-balance and linked balances with a range of jumps and turns.

Nursery Why Did Your Snowman Melt?

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 9:20pm

We have explored winter a bit futher and have been looking at colours that remind us of the cold weather. We painted on tin foil using blues, purples, white and silver and discussed how these are cold colours. Paintng on tin foil was lots of fun and the children noticed how the paint brush slide across the foil! We also talked about how we can build a snowman when it snows and talked about whether the snowman would last forever! We decided that the snowman wouldn't last forever because it would melt. We then used a mixture of shaving foam and PVA glue to create a melted snowman picture. The children had to answer the question "Why did your snowman melt?" Here are some of the answers

"Because I left him by the fire!"

"Because the summer came!"

"I gave him a hot chocolate!"

Reception Road Safety

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 8:15pm

This week in school we launch the WOW Walk to School Campaugn where the children learnt about how walking to school can benefit their health and wellbeing.  We also discussed how less cars on the road can have a positive effect on the environment.  Back in the classroom we discussed the importance of keep ourselves safe whilst crossing the road.  We were visited by our School Crossing Officier Zoe who gave us some top safety tips.

Always stop, look and listen

Find a safe place to cross e.g. a pedestrian crossing or a Zebra crossing

Always hold an adults hand

Don't run incase you fall over.

Never cross between parked cars

After our visit we made a road outside in the garden and put her advise into action.

Year 5 Use the force...vocabulary

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 4:47pm

This week we have started our new science unit: Forces, where we will be learning about the physics of movement on Earth and in space.  This unit includes lots of new vocabulary and interesting theories that the pupils will need to learn.  In the first lesson, pupils were given a list of words such as: gravity, friction and deceleration, and had to work collaboratively with their group to match the word to its definition.

Year 2 Animal Offspring

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 4:14pm

Year Two have started their new Science learning about animals by finding out about animal offspring.  We sorted adult animals with their offspring and we noticed that some offsrping look like their adults, whereas some offspring do not look like their adults.  We then started to classify the animals and their offspring into mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds.  Doing this made us notice that generally mammal offspring look like their adults and amphibian offspring do not look like their adults.

Year 3 Forest School Fun Strikes again!

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 4:06pm

This week we started with the parachute and we loved making a dome to protect us from the wind. We then went splashing around in the mud and made our very own bow and arrows. We spoke about how to use tools safely and carved the wood to create arrows. We cannot wait for next week!

Year 2 Namaste

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 4:05pm

Year Two have enjoyed their new PE unit, Yoga.  This is the first time it has been on our school curriculum and it is proving to be popular.  The children have been working hard on stretching their body parts, breathing techniques and balancing.  We were amazed that such a quiet and calming activity could be so could for our minds and bodies.  So far we have learnt the butterfly pose, the tree pose, the mountain pose, the tiger pose, the cobra pose and the aeroplane pose.   Over the next few weeks we will be perfecting these as well as learning some more poses.

Year 5 Dance with Miss Britt

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 2:14pm

During our PE sessions this half-term, we are lucky enough to have Miss Britt teaching us dance.

We started off the term by warming up and getting to know Miss Britt, learning a few simple dance moves and practicing some fitness based activities to get us used to the amount of stamina needed to sustain a full dance routine.

As we progress through the half-term, we will be making up and learning dance routines relevant to our learning that takes place in class.

Science Club- SUPER SLIME!

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 12:43pm

In Science club this week, KS1 made slime starting from marshmallows, oil and cornstarch. The children had great fun mkaing, stretching and playing with their slime. The highlight being Miss Stanbridge getting covered in corn starch.

“I really enjoyed making slime in Science Club.  My favourite part was watching the marshmallows melt and grow at the same time.”  (Rose)

“It was the best day EVER making slime!” (Jaz)

“I liked putting the marshmallows in the corn flour to help the marshmallows not be sticky anymore, and make it into slime.” (Albie)

Year 3 Fitness Frenzy!

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 9:08am

In PE, we tested our fitness levels by completing circuit training. We first of all warmed up and discussed the changes that happen to our bodies and why this is so important!

During the circuit, we all noticed we got much warmer, our faces got red and we started to sweat. Most people found the plank the hardest and we decided we needed to work on developing our core strength.

Year 1 The Trimurti

Date: 12th Jan 2022 @ 7:30pm

Today in RE we spent some time looking at the similarities and differences between the Trimurti. As a class we recapped the names of the three Hindu gods in the Trimurti and their roles. We remembered that Brahma is the creator of the universe, Shiva is the god of death and destruction and Vishnu is the god that preserves the universe and people. We then worked with a partner to identify similarities and differences between these three gods. We made notes on post its and then fed back our ideas to the rest of the class.

Nursery What Does Winter Feel like?

Date: 11th Jan 2022 @ 9:33pm

It's been a little bit chilly this week in Nursery as we have been exploring winter. We have been talking about the things we know about winter and lots of the children said that it snows in the winter and we need to wear hats and scraves to keep us warm. We tried to recreate some snow by mixing baking soda and conditioner together - the result was quiet realistic! The chilren have also been exploring ice and have been painting some ice cubes! This initiated a great converstaion about ice melting as a pool of water began to appear in the tray!

Year 3 Fitness fans!

Date: 11th Jan 2022 @ 9:28am

This half term we are focussing on Health Related Fitness. We started our session with games of never ending tig and spoke about why we do a warm up and the importance of them.
