The Dot

Date: 22nd Apr 2025 @ 8:50pm

The whole school created some wonderful art work inspired by the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds and the artist Wassily Kandinsky. The story "The Dot" explores the idea that anyone can be an artist by starting with a small mark on a piece of paper. Each year group were given a single colour to work with and then created a self-portrait on one circle and  patterns on  another. To add depth and contrast, the children explored tints, hues and shades and added texture using different marks and lines. The circles are going to be used to create our very own Boundary Dot display.

Year 5 - The Dot Artwork

Date: 22nd Apr 2025 @ 4:42pm

Inspired by the book 'The Dot' by Peter Reynolds and the work of abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944), pupils have created their own artwork using a single colour to create a self-portrait within a dot. This required a variety of skills including sketching, colour mixing and painting. Pupils were asked to consider colour, tone and hue when completing their final piece. Soon, the artwork will be combined with work from other year groups and displayed around the school.

Year 2- The Dot

Date: 22nd Apr 2025 @ 4:28pm

Today, we participated in Art Day based upon the book 'The Dot' inspiring that anyone can be an artist by starting with a mark. First, we explored making a portrait focusing on practicing how to draw our key features and drew them on an orange dot as this was our colour of focus. Finally, this afternoon we explored creating patterns using three colours: red, orange and yellow.

Year 1 The Dot

Date: 22nd Apr 2025 @ 2:26pm

We began our new half term by reading the story 'The Dot.' We talked about the message in the story and the characteristics the character shows. We then painted a background on our circles, before creating two different dots. One showed a self portrait of ourselves and on the other we created a pattern dot using oil pastels and felt tips.

Year 5 - PSHE in Spring 2

Date: 10th Apr 2025 @ 9:41am

In PSHE this half-term, we’ve focused on celebrating Neurodiversity Week, learning about Autism and neurodivergence through fun activities. We discussed how everyone’s brain works differently and explored this with a creative task where we followed tricky instructions to make pictures—each of us interpreted them differently, showing how unique we all are. We also talked about how things like visual aids and clearer instructions can help us communicate better. On top of that, we explored time management by looking at how we manage deadlines (like homework) and the tools that help us stay on track, such as lists, timers, and alarms. Finally, we discussed teamwork, looking at different teams (from sports to emergency services) and how it feels to be part of a successful group. It’s been a great journey of learning about individuality, time, and collaboration!

Year 5 - Miracles

Date: 10th Apr 2025 @ 9:40am

In R.E., we’ve had an exciting time exploring the miracles of Jesus and how they relate to our lives today. We kicked things off by talking about what we consider miracles, like a sports team’s comeback, and discussed whether miracles are linked to fate or chance. We also went on a pilgrimage (well, sort of!) by learning about the journeys and holy sites important to Christianity. We even packed suitcases and explored why these pilgrimages are significant. After some hands-on activities, we solidified our learning through discussions and interactive tools. We then tested our knowledge with a fun debate on whether miracles are too impossible to believe in. Finally, we reflected on everything we’ve learned and shared our thoughts and feelings on miracles. It’s been an insightful and thought-provoking journey!

Year 2- Making moving vehicles

Year 3 - No Pen Day

Date: 8th Apr 2025 @ 8:13pm

Today, we celebrated our No Pen Morning by having a fantastic oracy lesson! We focused on the importance of listening and joining in when we're having discussions. We even recapped our amazing strategies like agreeing, building on someone else’s ideas, and challenging answers respectfully. We also shared the different roles we can take, like being the instigator who starts the conversation, the prober who asks questions, and the summariser who wraps it all up nicely. One of our fun activities was figuring out which objects were the odd one out and spotting similarities and differences—lots of great discussions were had! In Maths, we learned about volume and capacity. We measured different containers to see how much they could hold, ordering them from least to most. We discovered that some looked different but held the same amount of water, so we poured from one to the other! We even tackled some tricky capacity statements, working out intervals and volumes of jugs. What a brilliant day!

Year 1 No Pen Day
