This week we had our Christmas Carol Service where we had to do this virtually. It was extremely different to how we usually do it but it was still amazing. A few of us from Year 6 and our teachers; Mrs. Hamilton and Mrs. Rose read parts and we listened to the Christmas Hymns. We also had Matt from The Church Army who spoke to us about the importance of Christmas and what Christians believe in.
We hope you all have a happy and safe Christmas!
Date: 16th Dec 2020 @ 8:52pm
Today in Year 1 we enjoyed our Christmas parties! The weather outside was cold and rainy but we enjoyed the most of our time indoors, dancing, playing games and having fun!
We made party hats for the special occasion which we then teamed with some special Christmas glasses to get us into the Christmas spirit!
We enjoyed playing musical statues, pinning the carrot on the snowman and eating party snacks!
Christmas dinner and jumper day
Date: 14th Dec 2020 @ 3:50pm
Today we began the first of our Christmas celebrations and came to school dressed in our best Christmas jumpers. We also tucked in to our annual dinner, which was delicious. Thank you to Debbie in the kitchen and all the staff for making it so enjoyable.
We had a fantastic time participating in the Royal Ballet Nutcracker Workshop!
Date: 16th Dec 2020 @ 12:15pm
The children had an amazing opportunity today and took part in a zoom Royal Ballet School 'Nutcracker' workshop. The character that was particularly popular was the Mouse King and everyone loved acting as him through dance. They also learnt about the story behind the Nutcracker Ballet.
In January, Year Three will be receiving weekly ballet lessons from the Royal Ballet and four older pupils are already part of the Royal Ballet Scheme after school.
'Annie' Musical Theatre Workshops.

Children from Year Five and Year Six really enjoyed their first musical theatre workshops with Georgia from Italia Conti. They are looking forward to their second set of workshops this Friday and cannot wait to be filmed performing numbers from the show early next year!
Year 1 - Our Learning This half-term
Date: 17th Dec 2020 @ 3:10am
Year 1 – Our half term!
We have had a very busy half term! From exploring 2D and 3D shapes in Maths, to balancing and creating routines in PE, and listening and appraising reggae songs in Music!
In Science this half term we have been learning about animals; learning lots of new vocabulary including carnivore, omnivore and herbivore and the five animal classifications.
In Computing we have been creating our own Christmas artwork using Paintz, exploring the different tools to create shape, images and text and on the 1st December our class elves arrived in Beech and Hazel with a letter - he asked us to find out everything we needed to know to write back to him! So, in Reading into Writing we explored the journey of a letter, finding features, piecing together the layout, and reading the letters from our class elf, before finally writing our own letter.
It has been a very exciting half term, filled with lots of learning and fun!
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...!
Date: 13th Dec 2020 @ 8:16pm
Reception have been very busy the last few weeks getting ready for Christmas. The children have enjoyed role playing the Santa’s Workshop wrapping presents, writing list and designing and building toys for Santa. We have been reading lots of books about winter and Christmas including our favourite ‘Stickman’. We wrote simple words, captions and sentences about Stickman and enjoyed using the props at the storytelling table to retell it in our own words. In Maths we have been ordering numbers one to twenty and adding a subtracting single digits using festive objects. We have been making patterns using different Christmas items and putting Santa’s presents in order of size. We have been adding items to our celebration box and discussing how we prepare for Christmas with our families. At the creative area we have enjoyed making Rudolph using a range of different materials, thinking carefully how to attach legs and antlers and sponge painting our Christmas wreaths. What a busy few weeks of learning we have had
Date: 12th Dec 2020 @ 12:04pm
We have had a very busy week in Maths this week!
At the start of the week we continued our work on exploring teen numbers, showing the numeral in numbers, words and pictorial representation. We have then worked on showing numbers in different ways, for example on tens frames, part part whole models, with objects and with drawings.
As we continued through the week we then moved onto problems involving one more and one less. We recapped on when finding one more the number gets bigger, and when finding one less the number gets smaller. We learnt that there are 2 ways to describe a number, for example 17 is one more than 16, and 17 is also one less than 18.
In partners we then thought of a number and tried to describe it to each other using the language of one more and one less, and seeing if our partner could tell us the number in our head! We then explored lots of different practical activities to explore the concept of one more and one less, using numicon, objects, counters and more!

On Rainbow Laces day, we learnt about stereotyping in sport. We discussed who imagined when we said the sports: gymnastics, ballet, football and swimming. We looked at famous males and females in these sports and the amazing accomplishments that they have achieved. By the end of the session, we had a good understanding that it doesn't matter what gender we are, we should play sports that interest us most.
We learnt that we should not stereotype people or judge them based on their looks or genders. Be who you want to be and do the things that make you smile!
Rainbow Laces Day - Celebrating Diversity
Date: 10th Dec 2020 @ 8:34pm
This week we have been taking part in 'Rainbow Laces Day' which is a chance to celebrate diversity and learn about the importance of respecting other people's differences. We learned about a variety of sports people who are all LGBT, including Tom Daley and Colin Jackson. We discussed that all people are worthy of respect and it is wrong to disrespect people because they are LGBT.
Date: 10th Dec 2020 @ 2:55pm
The magic of Christmas has definitely arrived at Nursery! We have been making decorations, building Santa's sleigh and counting his presents and making Christmas models out of play dough. We have had to keep a close eye on our cheeky Elf called Buzz because he keeps trying to run away! We are all getting so excited for Christmas and can't wait for our Christmas party next week!
Date: 18th Dec 2020 @ 3:00pm
Although it has looked very different from previous years, we have still celebrated the festive season at Boundary, albeit it in our bubbles and via whole school virtual assemblies.
Our carol service was a beautiful event, witnessed, shared and enjoyed (virtually!) by the whole school – a testament to the resilience, patience and determination of both our children and our staff.
During the week, bubbles have enjoyed their Christmas dinner. The hall was set out beautifully with crackers to pull, hats to wear and the odd poor joke to tell for each year group bubble to enjoy their Christmas dinner on their special day! A huge ‘Thank You’ goes to all the staff for making it run smoothly, especially Debbie and all the catering and welfare staff for all their hard work in making our delicious dinner.
Each bubble also enjoyed their party day this week, with children wearing their Christmas jumpers and their best party clothes! Each class spent the last afternoon of this term watching a special virtual pantomime ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and eating popcorn.
Although 2020 has not been the year we would have hoped for, our children, staff and parents and carers have once again united to create a supportive, nurturing environment for the children of Boundary, ensuring that each child continues to receive the best education and start in life despite the events of this year.
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your ongoing support during these strange and difficult times and to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, safe and happy New Year and we look forward to welcoming you all back in January.
Religious Education - a summary of our learning so far....
Date: 11th Dec 2020 @ 1:00pm
At Boundary, our curious and tolerant children have had a busy few weeks learning lots about different religions and we can’t wait to share what we have done…
Reception have been busy learning about the Christmas story and filming our nativity in their outdoor area. They loved dressing up and re-enacting the nativity play.
This half term in Year 1 for RE, the children have been learning all about Jesus and the Christmas Story. They have learnt about the roles of a family and why babies are special. They have read the Christmas Story and then ordered the events. This week, they worked together in groups, to sort out Christmas cards into ones with a religious meaning and ones without.
Year 2 having been exploring the question...
Why do Christians say that Jesus is the 'Light of the World'?
They children have learnt about how lights are used by Christians in celebration and to mark special events, what advent means and how they can be a light to other people!
Year 3 have been learning about Islam and who Muslims follow. They have learnt about the characteristics that the prophet Mohammed showed and how Muslims can be charitable. The children have reflected on this and how they can apply it to the role models in our lives.
In Year 4, they have been learning about Christianity and how Christians show love to everyone. The children have done this by looking at parables such as The Good Samaritan and The Unforgiving Servant. These parables have told them that it is important to 'Love thy neighbour' and treat everyone around them with care and respect.
This term in Year 5 they have been learning about Islam. They looked at Ramadan, The 5 Pillars of Islam, The Holy Qur'an and Hajj.
The Holy book of Islam is the Qur'an, Muslims clean themselves in water that has been blessed, before they hold it. - Lacey-Morgan
The pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is one of the five pillars of Islam and Muslims must do it at least once in their life if they are physically capable of it. Ihram is the name given to the special spiritual state in which pilgrims wear two white sheets of seamless cloth during their pilgrimage. - Myles
Year 6 children have been learning about the Hindu belief in reincarnation, karma and the 4 Ashramas (stages of life). The children have reflected on the milestones they have achieved in their lives already and possible future ones.
Date: 10th Dec 2020 @ 10:30am
Yesterday, we took part in some Rainbow Laces activities. We learned all about the LGBT+ community. We looked at four sportsmen and women and we had to draw a picture what we thought these sportsmen and women look like. This introduced stereotypes. We looked at the meaning of the colours of the Rainbow Laces flag; red=life, blue=harmony, purple=spirit, yellow=sun light, green= nature, orange=heeling. Everyone can join in with different sports and anything in life and we shouldn't treat people differently, whether they look different to you or have different opinions to you. The children were very sensible and we had some great discussions.
Date: 9th Dec 2020 @ 4:58pm
This week our Year 3 Eco Warriors planted some tree saplings in the Forest School area. Hopefully we will see them thrive and grow when we have our Forest school sessions in January. The children were very sensible although it was muddy! We have been talking about how we can take care of our environments both inside and outside of school and demonstrate responsibility by putting litter in the bin, taking our rubbish home from the park and ensuring that we are Eco friendly at home! All these things will help to improve and look after our planet.
Date: 9th Dec 2020 @ 3:54pm
Year Two have had a busy half term, crammed with lots of learning. From calculating and finding number bonds in Maths, to appraising and creating Christmas
songs in Music. We have been Super Scientists by planning investigations about everyday materials and we really enjoyed using primary sources in History to find out more about why we remember soldiers from The First World War.
There is no such thing as a Gruffalo...!
Date: 18th Nov 2020 @ 8:29pm
This week we read the story 'The Gruffalo in Reception. We talked about the different animals we might meet if we went for a walk in the woods and had fun role playing in our own Gruffalo cafe taking orders and eating weird and wonderful Gruffalo food. The children have been busy working at the creative table painting Gruffalos making models from play dough and recycled materials. The children had to think very carefully about the different colours they used for the 'purple prickles' and 'orange eyes'. The children worked hard labelling pictures with the initial sound and writing lists of the Gruffalos favourite food.
Date: 7th Dec 2020 @ 8:18pm
This week in Reception the children have been introduced to our first characteristics monster 'Katie Kindness'. Katie Kindness has been teaching the children all about the importance of being kind to one another by sharing, taking turns, including everyone in your games, helping someone if they are hurt and using kind words and actions. Mrs Clark and Mrs Farley have spotted lots children showing kindness to others and we have been very proud of all the children. As a class we talked about how we could show kindness and how it makes us feel.
"Hurting someone is not being like Katie Kindness" Elliott
"I helped Charlotte when she fell over" Riley.
You need to have kind words so you don't make people sad" Emily
"I'm happy when my friends let me play'" Jasmine
I wonder which characteristic monster we will meet next...?
Team Work Makes The Dream Work
Date: 7th Dec 2020 @ 6:57pm
What a challenging lesson today's OAA was! The pictures say it all!!!
Our first activity was to split into two groups and run through the hoola hoop obstacle course at the same time as the other team. Once we were face to face with our opponent, we had to play 'rock, papers, scissors' and the winner could carry on their journey as the other person had to go to the back of their line. As soon as one person made it to the other side, they won a point for their team.
Our next task consisted of us getting into groups of 4/5 where we had to balance the hoola hoop on the back of our hands (on our fingers). We then had to follow particular commands whilst the hoola hoop balanced such as: kneel down, raise your arms up, put one arm behind your back, lift one leg up etc... This tested our patience with our team and relied on good communication skills.
Our final task was to get into groups of 8 where we were given a number 1-8. There were 9 cones and we had to get in numerical order but only by moving one space (and person) at a time, and using the blank space. to achieve this This is a similar concept to the game slider puzzle.
We can't wait to see what next week's lesson has in store for us!
We loved performing in the Blackpool Digital Dance Festival!

It's been a busy week in Year 4!
Date: 4th Dec 2020 @ 10:57am
Wow what a busy week in Year 4! We had great fun at Forest School (pictures to follow next week, so keep your eyes peeled!). This week, we made our Design and Technology Toddler Nightlight prototypes. We are going to evaluate them so we can make a final design. Also this week, our Eco Warriors planted Oak tree saplings around the school grounds. We cannot wait to see them grow over the years.
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!
Date: 3rd Dec 2020 @ 5:24pm
We have been getting in the Christmas spirit this week! We had a big surprise on Monday morning - Santa had sent Buzz the Elf to watch over us and report to him each night! We decided we better be on our very best behaviour so, we helped Santa to wrap some presents in our elf wrapping station! We also made baubles and hung them on our tree, wrote letters to Santa, made Christmas lists and even made our Christmas cards. And that's not all! We also made playdough snowmen, candy canes, Christmas trees and sparkly stars - there was a lot of glitter involved! We can't wait for more Christmas fun next week!
Date: 2nd Dec 2020 @ 10:58am
Today, Year 6 took part in a 90 minute online safety talk with Bernadette from WIRED. The session talked about how we can stay safe online and the dangers of being on social media sites. She went through ways in which APPs like Tik Tok can be dangerous/inappropriate for children and what children should be looking at if they do go on these sites.
We are also having another talk next week to go further into online safety.
