Meet Supertato! This week in Nursery we have read the story ‘Supertato,’ and learnt about the caped potato superhero fighting to save the world from the arch villain – the Evil Pea! We have been practising our Supertato story telling skills with our Superhero story basket, with added special characters made by Mrs Welch! We have also been creating our own evil peas, and exploring our Funky Fingers area using trays of peas and mashers, evil pea threading and potatoes, sticks and capes! We have been mark making with carrots, printing with celery and broccoli and even taking part in a Superhero obstacle course!

Children from EYFS and Key Stage One are really enjoying dancing and acting in our weekly dance and drama club. They cannot wait to perform for parents, friends and family in the Northern Ballet's KS1 version of Little Red Riding Hood in a few weeks!
We're going on an animal hunt!

We're going on an animal hunt! The children looked for the animals hidden outside and when they'd found them they had to name them and then look at the patterns, colours, how many legs they have and such like.
"It's a kangaroo...they have their baby's in the pocket...they jump and have two big legs and little arms" Rosalie.
"It's a snake...green...little stripes...snakes don't have legs or arms" Freddie.
"Mine's a lion...it has a mane...a long tail" Chisom.

It was a beautiful Spring day in the Reception garden. The daffodils had begun to bloom and it was a great opportunity to capture the moment as a picture- using pencil crayons. The children studied the colours of the petal and stem and then sat quietly, concentrating to create a real life picture of Spring in the garden.
"Daffodil petals are yellow" Miya.
"The stem is green" Conner.
"Daffodils grow in Spring" Chloe.

Year 2 spent the day discussing the impact of global warming and how it effects our environment. The children then looked at the dangers of plastic swimming around our oceans and the problem it poses to all livings things. We then explored ways we can help reduce the amount of waste we use and how important it would be for animals, natural environments and habitats. Later on the children created starfish out of recycled materials, as you can see from their designs they did a fantastic job. Well done Year 2.

It's Game On!!!! On Friday 13th March we all celebrated Sports Relief and helped raise money by coming into school in our sports gear. During the day we participated in several GoNoodle Zumba sessions. In the afternoon, we joined Mr. Willetts on the MUGA for a number of different activities that included:
- Netball
- Hockey
- Dodgeball.
At the end of the sessions, the Year 6 staff took on the whole of Year 6 in a mass dodgeball competition. The staff did as well as they could but when the numbers were 5:54 it was always going to be the children who ended the victors!!! We all had a great day.

Children had a great Sport Relief. They were all allowed to come into school in their sports wear and they were involved in different sporting activities throughout the day. We were also lucky in Fern class as we had a special talk from Mrs Cooper on her journey through martial arts. Mrs C said how it is a sport which focusses on strength and agility. We wouldn't want to mess with her!

Today, we made the most of the nice weather and explored the playground and play equipment with our afternoon Nursery children. We started off by playing different circle games, practising rolling the ball and following instructions to play each game. We then started to move around the area, walking, jumping, skipping, running and even hopping! After we had warmed up we each had a turn on the equipment. We all had to wait patiently, as balancing on the beams was quite tricky, so a lot of us needed help from our teachers! We all travelled up and across the ramp, across the chains, and back down the ramp before having a well deserved rest at the end! We all enjoyed exploring the equipment and didn't want to come back in to Nursery for home time!

This morning our Nursery children joined with Reception to take part in some Sport Relief activities! Lots of children had come prepared in their sportswear, and we were all excited to join in! We each joined a different group in the hall and moved around each activity, until we had all had a go on each one! We took part in basketball, hockey and even balloon tennis! We took turns with the Reception children, and they all helped to show us what to do if we weren't sure! When we got back to Nursery we talked about the effect the exercise we had been doing had had on our body. We noticed we were hot, our hearts were beating fast and our cheeks were red!

Welcome to our 'Superhero Headquarters!' Nursery has been transformed into superhero world this week! Our writing area has become a top secret den, where we could leave secret messages with our spy writing pens! We could keep these secret from our enemies as only Nursery children have the tools to be able to read the top secret messages! Our home corner turned into an enemies lair, with laser beams across the walls, hiding the precious treasure, 'The Boundary Diamond.' We had a top secret mission to rescue the diamond by manoeuvring between the lasers, being very very careful not to touch them and set off the alarm! We have also been exploring materials this week, by investigating which material would make the best cape for our superhero, and then using this knowledge to design and make our own cape and cuffs! We put each material through a test to see which was strong enough to be fit for a superhero! In our Maths are we have explored Numicon city, using different pieces to match tower outlines, and exploring the matching superhero numbers! Some of us have even been matching numeral to quantity using our superhero character numbers, and our special treasure gems!

For our new science topic children have been learning all about light. Children have been setting up simple experiments, joined in with practical enquiries and created fair tests to discover that without light we cannot see. Children have recognised that light can be dangerous, darkness is the absence of light and light travels in straight lines.

Cadets had an interesting visit from CSI this week. The cadets learnt all about the role of the crime scene investigator, the style of the jobs they attend and how the forensic evidence is used to catch criminals and in court.
