Les enfants apprennent les cinq premiers fruits (Children have been learning about the first five fruits) in French. Demandez-leur lequel est leur prefere (Ask them which one is their favourite) Les pomme (apple), Les cerise (cherry), Les banane (banana), Les peche (peach) or Les fraise (strawberry).

Money, money money!

Children have been learning about the value of money. Through role play, children have been working collaboratively through buying and selling, giving correct amounts and calculating change. It is crucial children understand the value of each coin, have the mental ability to count on from given amounts and convert between pounds and pence.

The wonderful world of work

Our new topic, World of Work, was launched with a careers fair afternoon. Numerous volunteers from a wide variety of different professions visited us and answered our questions about their career and path into their field of work. It was a hugely successful afternoon and the children learned lots about the different careers available to them. We would like to say a huge thank you to the volunteers who gave their time to speak to the children.

It's Electrifying!

On our first day back after half term, Year 2 had a great morning experimenting with electricity! We defied gravity by making a balloon stick to the wall and we even made salt and pepper jump from a bowl! We learnt that this was all down to static electricity. We had lots of fun making our hair stand up. We also used snap circuits to make fans and lights. We had a great morning and can't wait to learn more about electricity!

Balance Bike Bonanza Willow Class!

This half term the children have enjoyed using the balance bikes. The children talked about the importance of wearing a helmet to keep them safe and identify and name the different parts of a bike. The instructors focused on teaching the children how to stop and start on a bike as well as them developing good balance and co-ordination whilst riding the bike. What great fun they had!

Paws, Claws, Whiskers and Measurement Maths!

Why were there different animal paw prints all over our classroom floor?

.....For our Paws, Claws and Whiskers WOW we estimated amounts, measured animals footprints using non standard measurements such as multilink, sorted animals into different categories and ordered animals by their height. We are very excited for more animal learning to come!

Who lives in a house like this?

Children have been asked the question – What makes a house a home? This half term, we are going to be learning how lifestyles have changed since the Medieval period and how routines within Britain have evolved. Firstly, we are going to look at how we live today and work our way back through the Victorians, Georgians, Stuarts, Tudors and right back to when the first castles were built by the Normans in 1066.

The One With The Coding!

For our WOW this morning, we played a range of games using coding. Each game required us to do certain things, such as collect gems or make a character get from A to B. To do each of these things, we had to use lines of code and connect them to make the character move. Some of the tasks required us to debug lines of code to find the error. We will use these skills through our coding unit this half term.
