We loved the start of our Dance unit today. We warmed up by moving around the Dance Studio with low or high movements. Next, we discussed why dancers count to 8 (to keep in time with each other). We discussed what things we think of when we hear the word spy and then this was our movement focus. We had a lot of fun practising a dance counting to 8.

Year 6 - Guided Reading prosody

Date: 6th Jan 2026 @ 2:43pm

Today in guided reading, we worked on improving our prosody while reading a non‑fiction text about space. We focused on using an appropriate tone of voice to match the information and the scientific vocabulary. We also practised controlling our reading speed so our fluency was clear and steady. These skills helped us read the facts with confidence and made the information easier to understand. It was a valuable session that strengthened our overall reading fluency.

Year 6 - History

Date: 6th Jan 2026 @ 2:41pm

Year 6 kicked off their new history topic this week with an exciting first lesson on the Vikings βš”οΈ.

The children explored who the Vikings really were beyond the stereotypes, discovering their origins in Scandinavia and the reasons they travelled across the seas. They also began to piece together how the Vikings fit into the wider story of British history πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§, from early raids to settlement and cultural influence. It was a brilliant start to the unit, full of curiosity, questions, and plenty of enthusiasm for what’s to come next

Year 6 - Islam

Date: 6th Jan 2026 @ 2:39pm

This week, Year 6 explored the guidance we need as we grow 🌱. We talked about who helps us when we’re young and how our sources of support change over time πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘¦. The class shared thoughtful ideas about finding guidance from family, friends, teachers, and their own experiences πŸ’¬. It was a great discussion about becoming more independent while still knowing where to turn for help ⭐.

Year 5 - PSHE

Date: 6th Jan 2026 @ 9:03am

Year 5 had a visit from the heart nurse. They learned where the heart is located, how big it is, and what its function is. They also learned how to keep the heart healthy by exercising regularly and eating the right foods. The children then created posters to make others aware.

Year 5 - Oracy

Date: 6th Jan 2026 @ 9:01am

In today’s lesson, Today, Year 5 recapped their physical oracy skills by experimenting with tone, pitch and pace. Pupils practised saying the same sentence in different ways, including formal, excited and nervous, to understand how voice can change meaning and impact. The children then focused on their cognitive oracy skills, learning how to structure an argument. They explored what a biased argument is and discussed how viewpoints can be shaped to persuade an audience. Working collaboratively, pupils generated points to support their argument and justified their reasoning. The summariser in each group was responsible for structuring and delivering a clear summary sentence that reflected the group’s viewpoint.

Year 1 Islam

Date: 6th Jan 2026 @ 7:16am

Today we began to discuss our key question in RE, ‘How might beliefs about creation affect the way people treat the world?’ We began by learning the name of the religion we will be learning about and that Muslims believe there is only one God – Allah. Today’s lesson involved learning about how we should treat the environment, why it is important and whose responsibility it is. We did this through looking at images and real life nature examples. We went on a nature walk to collect lots of natural resources and we then used these natural resources to create transient nature pictures. After this, we looked at a number of images and decided which are examples of looking after the environment and which are not. We sorted them together, verbally discussing and justifying each example.

Year 1 Lost and Found

Date: 6th Jan 2026 @ 7:14am

To begin our half term our focus is Lost and Found. Over the last few days, we have enjoyed reading the story and discussing the key parts, characters and settings. Yesterday, we sequenced the key events of the story and retold it using key vocabulary and today we focused on writing short captions for characters speech and labelling characters and objects from the story. Over the next week, we will enjoy exploring the areas including themed motor skills tasks, maths tasks and telling stories in our story telling area.

Year 4 - Sound walk

Date: 5th Jan 2026 @ 4:09pm

This week, we started the lesson using our oracy skills looking at a statement which said “There will be areas around school which are silent” and a “which one doesn’t belong scenario”. Next, we discussed what noise pollution is and how we hear sound because materials vibrate. Towards the end of the lesson, we went on a sound walk around school to see if there are any areas which are silent and noted down all the sounds we heard.

Year 4 - Bringing us together

Date: 5th Jan 2026 @ 4:03pm

This week we had a listening and appraising lesson. We remembered that to listen and appraise we need to have good active listening skills to be able to talk about the dimensions of the music. For our group task, we had to discuss what the beat was like, the time signature, the tempo, what instruments we could hear, the structure of the song, the genre, the pitch and the tonality. Afterwards, we had a go at singing the song for the first time.

Year 5 - Maths

Date: 18th Dec 2025 @ 2:49pm

Year 5 have been learning how to identify and write equivalent fractions, as well as how to add and subtract fractions, including mixed number fractions. Through practical activities and visual representations, the children have developed a secure understanding of how fractions work.

A key focus of this learning has been helping the children understand that a larger denominator does not mean a larger part. By using bar modelling and fraction models, they explored how fractions are divided into equal parts and learned that the more parts a whole is split into, the smaller each part becomes.

Year 5 - Reading into Writing

Date: 18th Dec 2025 @ 2:43pm

In Year 5, the children have been developing their descriptive writing skills through an imaginative task based on a visit to Santa’s Grotto. Using their five senses, they carefully described what they could see, hear, smell, touch and feel, helping their writing to come alive for the reader.

Throughout this unit, the children have focused on using a range of advanced language features to enhance their work. These included fronted adverbials to set the scene and add variety to sentence openings, expanded noun phrases to give more detailed descriptions, and relative clauses to provide additional information and improve sentence fluency.

The children showed great creativity and enthusiasm, producing vivid and engaging pieces of writing that demonstrated both their imagination and their growing confidence with more complex sentence structures.

Gerry and George: The Cheeky Ginger Elves’ Final Classroom Adventure!

Date: 18th Dec 2025 @ 9:22am

What a whirlwind of festive fun we’ve had with Gerry and George, our mischievous ginger elves! From the moment they arrived, they’ve kept us laughing with their cheeky antics—and today was no exception.

Here’s what they’ve been up to:

🎯 Taped to the Board!
This morning, the elves decided to turn the classroom into their own prank zone. Gerry taped George to the board, and before long, George got his revenge! The children couldn’t stop giggling at their sticky situation.

πŸ” Hide and Seek Champions
Later, the elves played an epic game of hide and seek. They popped up in the most unexpected places—inside the pencil pot, behind the books, even peeking out of the tissue box! The hunt was on, and the children loved every second.

🎲 Ball Pit of Multilink Cubes
Who needs a playground when you have maths resources? Gerry and George transformed our multilink cubes into a mini ball pit! It was colourful chaos, and the elves looked like they were having the time of their lives.

🏠 Gingerbread House Creation
Not stopping there, the elves got crafty and built their very own gingerbread house. It wasn’t just delicious-looking—it was a masterpiece of elf engineering!

βž• Cheeky Elf Maths
And of course, they couldn’t resist a little maths mischief. After lots of adding, subtracting, and elf-sized calculations, their final answer was… 67! (Don’t ask us how—they have their own magical methods!)

The children have absolutely loved having Gerry and George in the classroom. Their laughter and excitement have made this festive season extra special. But tomorrow, our cheeky elves have important work to do back at the North Pole. Santa needs his helpers to get ready for the big day!

Thank you, Gerry and George, for bringing so much joy and sparkle to our classroom. Safe travels back to the North Pole—we’ll miss you!

Year 3 - Christmas Nativity Art

Date: 18th Dec 2025 @ 9:21am

Year 3 have been busy creating beautiful stained glass nativity scenes as part of their Christmas art. The children explored the nativity story and looked at examples of stained glass windows, noticing the bold outlines and bright colours used.

Using black card and foil, the children designed and created their own nativity scenes, carefully choosing shapes and colours to represent the Christmas story. The foil created a striking stained glass effect, especially when light shone through the finished artwork.

The completed pieces look fantastic on display and the children were very proud of their creative work. Well done, Year 3!

Year 3 - Christmas Gift Boxes

Date: 18th Dec 2025 @ 9:16am

This term, Year 3 have been learning about shell structures in Design and Technology. As part of this unit, the children designed and made Christmas gift boxes using nets created from cardboard.

We began by exploring what shell structures are and how packaging is made using nets. The children looked at different box shapes and discussed how flat nets can be folded to create strong, three-dimensional structures.

Using this knowledge, the children designed their own Christmas gift boxes, thinking carefully about the shape and size they would need. They then created their own cardboard nets, accurately measuring, cutting and folding to form their boxes. This activity helped the children to develop their practical skills and understanding of how 2D shapes can be transformed into 3D structures.

Once assembled, the gift boxes were decorated with festive designs, making each one unique. The children showed great concentration and perseverance throughout the process and were very proud of their finished boxes.

Acorns - Gingerbread decorating

Date: 17th Dec 2025 @ 2:44pm

Acorns have had lots of fun decorating gingerbread trees and snowmen. We have been developing our choice making, choosing which item we wanted to decorate. We then made a choice between different coloured icing to decorate. We love using a variety of different opportunities to develop our communication skills and learning.

Year 5 at the Opera!

Date: 17th Dec 2025 @ 1:50pm

In our final Royal Opera House Magic Flute lesson, we brought together all the skills and knowledge we’ve built throughout the last half-term.

We began by revisiting our year group’s composers and reflecting on the musical ideas we’ve explored. Then we warmed up with the lively “Pa Pa Pa vocal exercise and completed a character role call to refresh our understanding of the story and its key personalities.

To finish, we came together as a full class choir for a joyful performance of “Pa Pa Pa Papageno,” celebrating both our learning and our confidence as performers.
