Reception- Remembrance Week

Reception have been learning about why we wear poppies each year in November.

We learnt that the red poppy symbolises remembrance, hope for a peaceful future and commemorates the soldiers who fought and died in war.

We had fun painting poppies, collaging poppies, drawing and labelling poppies and making them out of playdough.

Boundary Remembrance Service

Today, Monday 11th November, each pupil from Boundary Primary School made and planted their poppy in the school Remembrance Garden. On each poppy they had written the name of a soldier who had died in the First World War.

 

Afterwards, the school took part in a service where the pupils remembered these soldiers and others who had sacrificed their lives in past and present conflicts.

The service was led by Year 6 and Reverend Captain Matt Rowley.

 

The pupils also had further opportunities to reflect as they took part in a whole school art week based around the theme of poppies, using different techniques, such as collage, print and sketching.    

 

 

Year 2- We will remember them

Today, Year Two celebrated Remembrance Day by participating in our whole school service thinking about why we conduct a minutes silence and why we remember those who have/are fighting in battles around the world. We also drew and painted our own poppies and planted some poppies in our Remembrance Garden- each poppy had a soldiers name on it to remember those who lost their lives in WW1. 

Year 4 - Digestive System

Today, we made our own digestive system. We used a sandwich bag to recreate the stomach and the churning which happens in there. Then, we moved the churned food (crackers, banana, soup and orange juice) to some tights. These were representing the small intestine and large intestine. Lastly, the waste food, which is faeces, was stored in the rectum (a plastic cup) and then our teachers cut a hole in the bottom to represent the anus and a bowel movement.

Year 4 - Remembrance Day Celebration

Today we were part of our annual Remembrance Day Celebration. Last week, we used our art skills to make poppies out of clay and paint them with acrylic paint.

Year 1 Remembrance Day

Today, alongside the rest of the school, Year 1 learnt about Remembrance Day and the importance of this day. During the morning we enjoyed planting our poppies in our Remembrance Garden and taking part in our Remembrance Service. We were also lucky enough to look at some very special medals that Miss Raw showed us. These medals belonged to Miss Raws dad, who was a soldier in the war.

Acorns - Funnybones and Fireworks

Acorns have been reading Funnybones this week. We have enjoyed our sensory story and learning the skeleton dance, exploring how the bones make up our bodies. 

Acorns also engaged in a variety of activities to explore bonfire night. We enjoyed our sensory tuff trays and painting fireworks. 

Acorns - Remembrance

Acorns have been exploring Remembrance Day in class through video and art experiences. We planted our poppies this morning to remember those who have passed. 

Year 3- Poppy planting!

As part of our Remembrance service, Year 3 made and planted poppies in our remembrance garden. Each of the children wrote names of soldiers and we thought about their sacrifice when we planted them. The children also took part in our whole school service.  

Acorns - Odd Socks Day

Acorns have been exploring the theme of friendship this week and loved rounding our week off celebrating Odd Socks Day through a variety of multi-sensory activities including sock matching, pegging socks onto a washing line and counting odd socks. 
Acorns looked fantastic wearing their odd socks. We had a great day. 

Year 4 - Guided Reading

Over the last two weeks, Year 4 have been completing whole class guided reading sessions. Year 4 have looked at a poem about a clan of badgers who are under attack in their sett by machinery and a non-chronological report about Bonfire Night which explains why we celebrate the event. 

Year 1 Odd Socks

This week we have learnt about anti bullying week through the theme 'choose respect.' Today we wore odd socks and designed our own odd socks to raise awareness about bullying. 

Year 1 Toys

This half term we are learning about toys in our history lessons. Over the past two weeks, we have talked about our favourite toys and toys that are popular in the present day. We have also looked at different toys and talked about the age of children they were created for. We have sorted toys into different groups and began to look at the toys that arrived in our loan boxes. We will look at these more next week when we look at old and new toys!

Year 1 Mastery in Number

In our mastery in number sessions this week we have been exploring parts and wholes. Today, we were introduced to the part whole model and how to use it to find two different parts and the whole number they make.

Nursery Create some Rockets

The children loved using some open ended resources to create their own rocks, They had to select the pieces they wanted and decide how they would attach them together. They also had to chat to their friends about the resources and share and take turns. 

Nursery Go Up with a Whizz, Bang, Pop

Nursery have been learning all about fireworks and have got very sparkly in the process! We have been practising our mark making skills to create some wonderful firework pictures, made some star soup outside and created some firework sparklers. 

Year 6 - Road Safety Talks

Today we were visited by the fire service who recapped on fire safety and then talk to us about road safety. We recapped on making sure we wear bright colours at night, such as fluorescent jackets. We also talked about the importance of not being on our phones when we cross the roads or listening to music.  As the nights are now getting darker we must keep ourselves safe. 

Year 3- Anti-bullying

This week we have been looking at Anti-bullying. We discussed what bullying was and how to deal with it. We looked at how as a class we were going to be upstanders instead of bystanders. We discussed the importance of speaking out against bullying and how we can be a supportive friend. We then made a pledge to be an upstander. 

Year 3- Identifying animal's diet!

This week in Year 3 we have been looking at Animals including Humans in Science. Last week we looked at what makes a healthy and balanced diet and organized food into the different food groups. This week we went on to look at classifying animals into what they eat. We used the words herbivores, carnivore and omnivores and identified what makes each of these groups.

Year 4 -DT - Creating a lever and linkage

In DT, we received a letter asking us to design and create a card. The specification was precise – we need to ensure it is a Christmas card, it is designed for primary school children and it has a linkage and lever system. We then looked at card designs and evaluated them. 

Next, we learned about linkages and levers and created a basic one which we will adapt and use when we create our Christmas cards!

Year 6 - Geography (The UK)

In today's lesson, we recapped on our learning from last week including the four countries of the UK, their capitals and the seas surrounding the British Isles. We then went on to discuss where people in the UK live. We learned about cities, towns, villages and hamlets before using maps and online atlases to locate major towns and cities in our local area and the UK. 

Year 2- Anti-bullying week

This week, Year 2 celebrated anti-bullying week alongside the whole school. After a whole school assembly, in class we looked at what respecting others look likes, feels like and sounds like. We also explored the difference between friendly joking, teasing and bullying and identified these from a range of scenarios discussing what the differences are. Today, we all wore odd socks to celebrate that everyone is different and this is a great thing!

Year 2- Adding by making 10

As we continue our Maths journey through addition and subtraction, today we used counters to help us understand adding by making 10 and using it to help us make calculating numbers easier. We made two one-digit numbers with counters using two different colours before we moved some counters up using our number bonds to create a 10 and an easier calculation to work with. Tomorrow we will use this to help us do it abstractly as we will have a good understanding of how it works. 

Anti-bullying Week

This week across school we have been celebrating Anti-Bullying week. We started the week off with the a whole school assembly based around this year's theme ‘Choose Respect’. Throughout the week the children have been learning about being respectful and why this is such an important skill for life. Alongside this they have also been exploring the theme of bullying including what it means, different types of bullying, what to do if you are being bullied, the difference of a bystander and upstander, how to solve conflicts and what discrimination means. We finished of the week by inviting everyone to wear odd socks to celebrate everyone’s differences and promote kindness. What a fantastic week we have had!

Reception learn about Divali

This week the children have been learning about the Sikh and Hindu elebration of Divali.  The children have been learning about how people prepare for the festival and comparing this to how Christain prepare for Christmas.  They have been creating their own rangoli patterns, making Diva lamps out of salt dough, writing Divali cards and exploring different artefacts at the Divali table.
