What great World Book Day outfits today! We had a brilliant assembly and then we did some activities which included a quiz and predicting then ending to our class book and creating our own ending.

What a great Forest School session! We learned how to tie knots then we had a competition to get from one side of the site to the other tying ropes together. Then, we learned about the pond and the frog spawn living there. During the session we were able to look at and hold a frog. We had to wet our hands first so that our hands felt smoother for the frog.
Reception- Balance Bike Safety

Reception had a very exciting start to the week- learning how to ride balance bikes safely!
Eevery week, for the next four weeks, Reception will learn how to ride a balance bike and why we wear protective clothing when doing so.
They learnt to ride safely, not collide with each other and push with their feet- it was such fun!

Year 6 - DT: Evaluating existing products

As part of our Food Technology unit we will be making savoury scones. Today, we tested several different savoury products and evaluated them for their appearance, texture, taste and smell. By doing this, it gives us ideas about what we like and what we can use in our own product when we make them in a few weeks time.

Today was the first day of our new art journey. This unit focuses on activisim and looks at how to use words and images to create strong messages. Today we discussed what activism is and words associated with it. We then created a double-page spread linked to what we had been discussing.

As part of our Science unit 'Classification of Living Things', we learned about micro-organisms and the three types: bacteria, virus and fungus. In order to carry out an investigaiton into the growth of fungus, we set up an experiment to increase the rate of mould growth on bread. We discovered that mould grows quicker in warm and damp conditions.

Today we learnt about fact families and related facts. After our previous learning exploring addition and subtraction separately, today we looked at how they relate to each other. We used both concrete resources and pictures to find the links between addition and subtraction operations. We reinforced the fact that addition can be done in any order, whereas subtraction cannot. We then explored fact families independently, using the given pictures to create our two parts and work out the whole number.

Thanks to a generous donation by a parent, each child who took part in our School's Alive performance received a medal in recognition of their hard work, determination and overall brilliant performance!

Year 5 - Creepy Crawlies Welcome

Pupils in Year 5 have completed their 'frame structure' projects. After evaluating current products, pupils designed and created their own 'bug hotel'. A frame structure was created before pupils added sides and tubes for insects to live in. The children then decorated their products and evaluated them.
Year 5 - Making our Designs Come to Life

This week, pupils in year 5 began to construct their Bee Boxes. The children used various wood-working tools, including G-clamps and hacksaws, to measure, cut and build a cube frame for their structure. After cutting the wood, triangles of cardboard were used to strengthen the structure. Soon pupils will turn this frame into a 'Bee Box' or 'Bug Hotel' to place around the school grounds.

This half term we have enjoyed our three RSE lessons. Our first lesson included reading the story 'It's Okay to Be Different' by Todd Parrs. We all took part in a circle time session to discuss the story and its key themes. This story helped us understand an important message of acceptance and understanding through a fun story with some silly scenes! We celebrated our individuality through acceptance of others and self-confidence. Through our circle time we then explored how we are all different! We drew and wrote about an imaginary friend who is different to us. Some of us drew friends with different skin colours, different hair colours, friends who were a different size to us or friends who moved differently to us.
Nursery Find a Pea on the Loose!

We had to be very careful in Nursery this week as there was an evil pea on the loose! We read the story "Supertato" and discovered that the peas had escaped from the nursery freezer! Luckily we managed to find them all with the help of the Wanted posters the children created. Then we discovered peas trapped in jelly and the children had to use their fine motor muscles to try and pull them out using tweezers. We explored lots of different vegetables and create some really delicious looking vegetable soup. The children even made their own evil pea and supertato using materials to create collages. Now we have to keep checking to make sure there are no more esca-peas!

Today we began our History journey by being ‘History Detectives!’ We were given 8 visual clues that revealed details and ideas as to why Columbus is famous, even though he died 500 years ago. We worked in groups to look at these historical sources, writing key words or phrases that came to mind around the outside of the photos. We then combined all our ideas on our class mind map.

Our first Reading into Writing journey this half term is instructions. We began this journey by reading the story 'The Disgusting Sandwich.' Today we practised following instructions to make paper plate fish and a friendship bracelet. We recapped on the features of instructions, before decoding and reading through each example and finding the features together. It was then our turn to follow the instructions to make our end product. Some of us found out what happened when we don’t read and follow instructions carefully!

Nursery celebrated Pancake Day on Tuesday. We read the story "Mr Wolf's Pancakes" and wrote shopping lists of all the ingredients we needed. Then we worked together to mix the batter and Mrs Welch cooked the pancakes! We chose the toppings we wanted, we could have chocolate spread or lemon and sugar. They were delicious and there were lots of cries of "Please can I have some more!"

The children have been celebrating Pancake Day by making pancakes in the kitchen.
The next day, the children then wrote about how to make pancakes.
Here's what we did.

Year 6 began their new PE unit this week by learning several yoga poses, which improve posture, strengthen the core and increase flexibility. We started with the a simple mountain pose before moving on to the tree pose, warrior pose and chair pose. We then eded the session with a relaxing meditation.

Today we did an online safety quiz. This brought out lots of great conversations between the children and we were able to develop and use the oracy skills we have learned and continue to learn.
Reception Past and Present Teddy Bears

Today in Reception the children were invited to bring their favourite teddy bear to school. The children enjoyed talking to their friends about their teddy and why it is special to them. Mrs Clark then introduced her teddy which was given to her by her nana. He was 72 years old. In small groups we compared how the teddies had changed over time

The children then worked independently to sort the pictures of different teddies in to past and present.

On Tuesday 21st February 2023 we celebrated our 100th Day of this academic year. We began by joining together as a whole school and sharing the book, 365 Penguins by Jean-Luc Fromental. We then took part in maths activities based around the book.
In Year 1, pupils measured penguins using non-standard units. Year 2 consolidated their multiplication learning by finding how many different arrays could be made from 24 penguins. Year 3 focused on investigating how to group the penguins in different ways.
Year 4 calculated the cost of feeding the penguins for each month of the year and Year 5 investigated triangular numbers and their link to square numbers.
Overall, a great day of Penguin problem solving was had!
Reception celebrate Shrove Tuesday

Reception have been celebratng Shrove Tuesday by making pancakes. We talked about what Shrove Tuesday is and why it is important in the Christian calendar. We discussed what ingredients and equpiment we needed to make pancakes and the importance of following a recipe. The children enjoyed adding the ingredients into a bowl, mixing it up and then cooking it in the frying pan.

Earlier in the term we did some music around Chinese New Year, we selected the instruments from the percussion trolley to represent the animals and played them loudly and softly.
We have been doing lots of singing of a variety of nursery rhymes including Hey Diddle Diddle, Pop goes the Weasel, Have you ever seen a Penguin come to tea and Baa Baa Black sheep. We have been learning the names of the percussion instruments and learning the vocabulary of beat, tempo (fast and slow) and dynamics (loud and soft).
