Since returning from the Christmas holidays our Recpetion classrooms have been transformed into a Winter Wonderland. The children have had the opportunity to explore lots of different activities all themes around winter. Have a look at some of the fabulous things we have been doing.

The children in Reception have been learning about the season Winter. They have been observing changes in the weather, discussing the type of clothes they wear and learning about animals that hibernate during this time of year. We then painted a Winter tree.
They also painted a Winter tree and talked about how trees look different in Winter.
"It is cold in Winter...it might snow or be frosty" William.
"The trees are bare because the leaves have all died and there are none left on the branches" Lennox.
"It is cold that is why we wear a hat, scarf, gloves and boots- to keep warm".Harper.
"Bears and hedgehogs hibernate in Winter- they go to sleep for a long time" Sheera.

This half term in Maths we have begun by exploring numbers within 20. We have been talking about what we already know about these numbers and learning how to represent these numbers with Base 10. We have then recapped on prior learning to find one more and one less, numbers that are greater then/less than a given number and whether numbers are odd or even.
'Fourteen is 1 ten and 4 ones'

'I know 11 is odd because it ends in a number 1. 1 cannot be shared equally between 2'

Today we began to learn about Hinduism by thinking about our roles and the roles of others. We talked about people in the community – nurses, doctors, teachers, police, fire service, care workers, rubbish collectors, postmen/women etc, discussing how they are special and what would happen if we did not have these people. We learnt these people make a difference! They each play an important roe and do extraordinary things for people around them. We then looked more in-depth at police officers, discussing why this role includes special clothing and visual ways of showing people what this person’s role is.

This week, we were introduced to our Electricity unit. We explored lots of electrical vocabulary and tried to answer questions together as a class. We discovered that for electricity to flow there needs to be a complete circuit – whether that be by battery or mains. We discussed that electricity from the mains doesn’t just come magically, but it comes from substations and power stations. We found out that electricity is created by generators which can be powered by gas, coal, oil, wind or solar. We discussed lots of examples of battery powered and mains powered appliances. We decided that from electricity we can get light, heat (toaster), movement (a fan) and sound.

Today, we began our Design Technology food journey by fruit tasting so we are aware of the fruits we like and dislike before designing and making our own healthy fruit snack. We tried lots of different fruits including: blackberries, strawberries, mango, pineapple, pears, bananas, kiwi and apples. We realised we all enjoyed different fruits for different reasons and used adjectives to describe each fruits texture and taste.

This week, the whole School is taking part in Road Safety Awareness week. We begun the week with an assembly by Miss Moyes thinking about all the people that use the roads and pavements and all the things that are in place to keep us safe whilst using them. We then thought about how we need to take responsibility for our own safety and explored some of the ways we could do this. In Year Two, we today explored safe and unsafe places to cross a road; we learnt that it is not safe to cross in between cars or diagonally and where possible we need to use pedestrian crossings with traffic lights or a zebra crossing.
KS2 - Blackpool Schools Football Tournament

This morning our KS2 boys football team took part in the Blackpool Schools Football Tournament, which they qualified for before Christmas. The rescheduled event saw all schools from Blackpool take part in a couple of fixtures to determine who would go on to represent Blackpool at the finals on Friday.
As always, our Boundary boys put on a great show of character, determination and although they didn't qualify for the final, they came away smiling after a spirited performance.
Well done to all KS2 boys involved in today's event, you've done your school proud!

This half term we will be completing our Fit2Go programmes with Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The programme consists of a practical lesson and a theory lesson. Each week there is a different theme to the week.
Week one: Healthy lifestyles
Week two: The Eat Well Guide
Week three: Physical activity
Week four: It's all about balance
Week five: Snacks and label reading
Week six: Teeth and hydration
For our theory about healthy lifestyles this week, we looked at what we need to stay healthy. For example, 9-11 hours sleep, drink water and a balance of foods from different food groups. Then for our practical we did some warm ups and then played dodgeball.

Today we began our French unit - les Vikings. This involved listening to a song and translating the lyrics from French to English. We then worked through slides that introduced the Vikings and key information in French, which we translated again into English. We are now able to translate much larger sections of French because of the work we did during Autumn term.
Year 6 Introduction to Vikings

Today we began our new History unit - The Vikings. We began with a flashback of all the history we have covered during our time here at Boundary. We discussed together where we thought each key event/period of time went on the timeline and researched dates so that we could accurately order them.
Then we had a quick recap on Anglo-Saxons, which we covered in Year 5. We talked about why we learn about Anglo-Saxons and Vikings together. We then looked at who the Vikings were, where they came from and why they came to Britain.
Year 2 Where in the world am I?

This half term in Year Two, we will be exploring the world by looking at the worlds continents and oceans. We began our learning journey by exploring where in the world we are focusing on key vocabulary: house, street, village, town, city, county, country, continent and hemisphere. We learnt what each of these words meant and used Google Earth to explore the places further. We began looking at the world and kept zooming in until we reached our School. We know know we are in the Northern hemisphere and we live in the county Lancashire. We are looking forwards to continuing our learning journey further in the coming weeks.

Before we started our new topic on the Stone age man, we discussed BC and AD for the timelines in history. We established that the Stone age was the only thing in our timeline that was BC and the rest of the pictures were all in the last 600 years. We put ourselves in the timeline too!
We went on the look at picture sources to answer the question "Was Stone Age Man just a simple Hunter Gatherer?"

Today was our first Forest School Session! Although it was very rainy and muddy, we had lots of fun thinking about the new Year. We played Robins and Frost Sprites, a game of hide and seek, to think about how the frost comes in winter and we made wands/staffs to warn off the cold of winter and keep the light shining in our hearts throughout this period of time. The children had great fun despite their muddy clothes!
Year 4 Emile Timestable World Cup Update!

We are so proud to share that 10 Boundary children came in the top 100 out of over 250,000 children from across the country who took part in the Emile Timestable World Cup with one child coming in the TOP 50!
Year 4 have been working hard on their times tables, improving their knowledge, recall and application skills and their hard work is really beginning to show in the classroom and in competitions like this! Well done Year 4!

Everyone had such a great time dancing, singing and playing party games!
Children took turns playing pass the parcel and were even visited by Father Christmas who gave each child a present!
School Council- Raising money for Brian House

Christmas Jumper Day was a great way to raise money for one of the School Council's charities. Every child paid £1 and all the proceeds were sent to Brian House.

Today, Year Two took part in a Primary Futures event called 'Who's line is it anyway?'. We met three different people who all had Christmas jobs and we had to guess what their job was from the clues they gave. We met a range of interesting people including: Pia the Christmas decorator, Sarah the theatre director and Shaun the chef at Buckingham Palace. Finally, there was a surprise mystery guest who surprised the children.

Today, Christmas arrived and we made some Christmas Snowflakes. Once we had glued our sticks together and painting them white, we used our weaving skills learnt through our previous Art journey to wrap white or blue wool around our sticks to create our snowflake. We finished our snowflakes with glitter and sequins.
Year 6 meet and greet with BFC players

Today Year 6 were lucky enough to have a meet and greet with 2 1st team Blackpool FC players: Shayne Lavery and Sonny Carey. During their visit, Year 6 pupils asked them a range of questions, such as 'Who is the toughest team you've faced?', 'How did you feel when you first stepped out at Bloomfield Road as a Blackpool player?' and 'What job would you have had if you hadn't have been a footballer?'
We'd like to thank the players for taking the time to visit our children and answer their questions.
Nursery Brave the Cold for Forest School

Nursery enjoyed a fun if not very chilly Forest School session! They played games to keep themselves warm and had a great time exploring all the frost and ice outside. They also enjoyed a cup of warm apple juice to warm themselves up.

What a successful end to our Enterprise this half term!

Nursery had a super time at our Christmas party. We played party games including Pass the Parcel, Musical Statues and Musical Bumps. The children had to listen carefully to the rules and did so well following the instructions. In the morning we went on a Santa Hunt and found clues all across the school left by Santa. There was glitter, reindeer antlers, a Christmas Tree and even a welly! We searched everywhere, but coudn't find Santa. When we got back to Nursery, we found that Santa had been and left us a sack full of presents! In the aftetnoon we were lucky eneough to meet the man himself - it was so exciting!

Nursery put on a super performance at out annual Christmas Sing-along. The children worked so hard to learn a selection of Christmas songs, learnt how to sign along to "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and used a variety of instruments to accompany the songs. It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents at the sing-along and they even enjoyed a tasty mince pie at the end of the performance.
