Year 1 Investigating Animal Poo!

Date: 21st Feb 2022 @ 6:41pm

As part of our WOW lesson today we examined and dissected animal poo! Using our prior knowledge about carnivores, omnivores and herbivores we identified which animal had left which poo behind. We also had a poo fact sheet to help us. We labeled which poo which animal had come from and whether each animal was a carnivore, herbivore or omnivore. Don't worry, it wasn't real poo!

Year 6 WOW - Evolution

Date: 21st Feb 2022 @ 2:30pm

In Year 6 today we have taken part in an activity to help us understand evolution. We discussed who Charles Darwin was and how he developed the theory of evolution by comparing finches on each of the Galapagos Islands. He found that there were differences in the birds' beaks depending on the food available. We have taken the role of these birds today by trying to pick up different 'seeds' using a range of different 'beaks'. We found that some beaks were better at picking up seeds than others and this helped us to understand why some finches developed different sized beaks.

Year 1 Growing Together

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 8:00pm

As part of children's mental health week we read the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' and discussed the changes the characters went through. We then thought about changes we ourselves have been through and what we would like to be able to do when we are older. We thought about whether we might need help at first to do these things, and who might help us. We then decorated butterfly outlines with pictures or words depicting things we have learnt to do, e.g. write our names, count to 20 and read our common exception words.

Year 2 Little Zoo to You

Date: 9th Feb 2022 @ 9:27pm

Earlier in the week, Year Two had a very exciting set of visitors to our classes.  Gemma from Little Zoo to You introduced us to some very interetsing animals; Michelle the African Land Snail, Clare the Madagscan Hissing Cockroach, Prince Charming the Australian White Tree Frog, Charlotte teh Mexican Red-Kneed Tarantula and Zeus the American Corn Snake.  Gemma told us lots of interesting facts about each creature and how they survive in their natural habitats.  We also got to handle some of the guests, which for some of us, took a lot of courage!

Year 2 Joy Division

Date: 9th Feb 2022 @ 9:06pm

Year Two have been focusing on division this week.  We have been using concrete resources to share into equal groups and we have been linking this concept to division calculations.  We have been using stem sentences to help us to remember each element of the division calculation and this has helped us to record our mathematics accurately.  We have also been grouping items and looking at how this differs to sharing, comparing the divison calculations that this creates.

Year 1 Safer Internet Day

Date: 9th Feb 2022 @ 7:40pm

As part of 'Safer Internet Day' we read the story 'Digiduck and the Magic Castle.' We listened and participated throughout the story, answering key questions such as 'how can you make a password strong, and hard to guess?' and 'who are the adults that you could talk to if anything online worries or upsets you?' We then completed two tasks. One was to give examples of our trusted adults and how they can help and the other was an online or offline sort. Through this we identified what information should be kept private and offline and what information is safe to share online.

Nursery Tuff Trays

Date: 8th Feb 2022 @ 5:14pm

We love a good Tuff Tray activity in nursery! Tuff trays are great for setting up a range of activities and the great thing is that they cover so many areas of learning. This week we have made potions in one of our outdoor trays. This provided some great opportunites for the children including exploring colour mixing, capacity, counting, developing communication and langauge skills and fine motor skills. It was also great for social skills as the children had to negotiate and take turns with the equipment. As the activity was open eneded, the children explored things further by pouring their potions down some pipes. They loved to see what happened when the coloured water hit the tray at the bottom!

Year 6 Making Mobile Phone Cases

Date: 8th Feb 2022 @ 5:06pm

Today, we have had a full day of DT. Our project was to make a mobile phone case and today we have managed to create these. To do this we have followed a journey in order to make sure we have fully researched the product and had a chance to plan it. Today we have researched existing felt mobile phone cases, looked at developing a success criteria, planned and designed our product, made a prototype and then created our final product. To finish, we now need to evaluate our case against our success criteria.

Year 5 Fabulous Frame Structures

Date: 8th Feb 2022 @ 4:32pm

We have been learning about structures and how they can be strengthened in various ways, especially using triangles. In this lesson, pupils were given a design brief and then asked to build a cube-shaped frame for a product. Pupils used various equipment, including hacksaws, to measure, cut and construct there cube frames.

Nursery Follow My Lead

Date: 3rd Feb 2022 @ 8:39pm

Nursery provides a mixture of experiences and some of these come straight from the children! This week they have been coming up with lots of super ideas. When they were playing outside, the children asked for some blankets so they could turn the crates in to beds! Then they used the bricks in some really inventive ways. One little girl said "It's my phone. I'm on my phone!" The chidlren also asked if they could have some dressing up clothes which led to super interaction and speech and language opportunities.

Year 5 Investigating water resistance

Date: 3rd Feb 2022 @ 11:33am

As part of our topic on forces, pupils were challenged to investigate the effect of water resistance on an object.  We molded playdough into different shapes and dropped them into water to see how fast they would sink. We discovered that, thin shapes and ball shapes sank faster than large flat shapes. This is because the larger shapes created more water resistance! Water resistance is the force of the water pushing back against the force of gravity - which is trying to make the object sink.

Year 4 Wonderful Waves!

Date: 2nd Feb 2022 @ 8:18pm

This week in Geography we have been learning all ab out how waves affect out coastlines. We have learned all about contructive and deconstructive waves and the impact they have on our coastlines. We had a conducted a great experiment using water and sand to recreate the two types of waves in our classroom!

Year 1 Making Murtis!

Date: 2nd Feb 2022 @ 8:06pm

In RE this week we looked further into Hindu shrines and how Murtis help Hindus to think of God when they worship. We looked at lots of different examples of Murtis, including both Gods and Goddesses, and looked at why Hindus may worship them. For example, we learnt that Ganesh is the God of wealth and is believed to bring good luck. Hindus may worship him before anything new is started. We then chose a Murti to represent using salt dough, thinking about why Hindus may choose this Murti to worship. We used the skills of pulling, squeezing, and rolling to manipulate our salt dough into the form of our Murti.

Reception Amazing Antarctica

Date: 2nd Feb 2022 @ 11:39am

This week Reception have been learning all about Antarctica, what the climate is like there and finding out about different animals that live there.  We have been looking at world maps and globes and identified that the top and bottoms parts of the globe have the coldest climate and in the middle is where it is warmer because of the equator.  We found out that Antarctica is one of the 7 world continents and is home to the penguin species.  During class discussions, exploring globes and atlases, playing with small world figures and reading different information books we found out lots of interesting facts and learnt lots of new words including; continent, climate, north and south pole, temperatire, globe, equator, blubber and carnivore.  We produced our own child initiated writing about the different animals used the globes to locate different places, looked at how he animals had adapted to their environment and created out own narratives.

"Polar bears have lots of blubble to keep them warm" Evelyn

"Look that Antarctica, it white on the map because its cold and snowy there" Harrison

"Penguins can't fly but they are good at swimming and diving" Neveah

"Antarctica is a continent" Marleigh
