Nursery Why Did Your Snowman Melt?

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 9:20pm

We have explored winter a bit futher and have been looking at colours that remind us of the cold weather. We painted on tin foil using blues, purples, white and silver and discussed how these are cold colours. Paintng on tin foil was lots of fun and the children noticed how the paint brush slide across the foil! We also talked about how we can build a snowman when it snows and talked about whether the snowman would last forever! We decided that the snowman wouldn't last forever because it would melt. We then used a mixture of shaving foam and PVA glue to create a melted snowman picture. The children had to answer the question "Why did your snowman melt?" Here are some of the answers

"Because I left him by the fire!"

"Because the summer came!"

"I gave him a hot chocolate!"

This week in school we launch the WOW Walk to School Campaugn where the children learnt about how walking to school can benefit their health and wellbeing.  We also discussed how less cars on the road can have a positive effect on the environment.  Back in the classroom we discussed the importance of keep ourselves safe whilst crossing the road.  We were visited by our School Crossing Officier Zoe who gave us some top safety tips.

Always stop, look and listen

Find a safe place to cross e.g. a pedestrian crossing or a Zebra crossing

Always hold an adults hand

Don't run incase you fall over.

Never cross between parked cars

After our visit we made a road outside in the garden and put her advise into action.

Year 5 Use the force...vocabulary

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 4:47pm

This week we have started our new science unit: Forces, where we will be learning about the physics of movement on Earth and in space.  This unit includes lots of new vocabulary and interesting theories that the pupils will need to learn.  In the first lesson, pupils were given a list of words such as: gravity, friction and deceleration, and had to work collaboratively with their group to match the word to its definition.

Year 2 Animal Offspring

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 4:14pm

Year Two have started their new Science learning about animals by finding out about animal offspring.  We sorted adult animals with their offspring and we noticed that some offsrping look like their adults, whereas some offspring do not look like their adults.  We then started to classify the animals and their offspring into mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds.  Doing this made us notice that generally mammal offspring look like their adults and amphibian offspring do not look like their adults.

During our PE sessions this half-term, we are lucky enough to have Miss Britt teaching us dance.

We started off the term by warming up and getting to know Miss Britt, learning a few simple dance moves and practicing some fitness based activities to get us used to the amount of stamina needed to sustain a full dance routine.

As we progress through the half-term, we will be making up and learning dance routines relevant to our learning that takes place in class.

Science Club- SUPER SLIME!

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 12:43pm

In Science club this week, KS1 made slime starting from marshmallows, oil and cornstarch. The children had great fun mkaing, stretching and playing with their slime. The highlight being Miss Stanbridge getting covered in corn starch.

“I really enjoyed making slime in Science Club.  My favourite part was watching the marshmallows melt and grow at the same time.”  (Rose)

“It was the best day EVER making slime!” (Jaz)

“I liked putting the marshmallows in the corn flour to help the marshmallows not be sticky anymore, and make it into slime.” (Albie)

Year 3 Fitness Frenzy!

Date: 13th Jan 2022 @ 9:08am

In PE, we tested our fitness levels by completing circuit training. We first of all warmed up and discussed the changes that happen to our bodies and why this is so important!

During the circuit, we all noticed we got much warmer, our faces got red and we started to sweat. Most people found the plank the hardest and we decided we needed to work on developing our core strength.

Year 1 The Trimurti

Date: 12th Jan 2022 @ 7:30pm

We remembered that Brahma is the creator of the universe, Shiva is the god of death and destruction and Vishnu is the god that preserves the universe and people. We then worked with a partner to identify similarities and differences between these three gods. We made notes on post its and then fed back our ideas to the rest of the class.

Nursery What Does Winter Feel like?

Date: 11th Jan 2022 @ 9:33pm

It's been a little bit chilly this week in Nursery as we have been exploring winter. We have been talking about the things we know about winter and lots of the children said that it snows in the winter and we need to wear hats and scraves to keep us warm. We tried to recreate some snow by mixing baking soda and conditioner together - the result was quiet realistic! The chilren have also been exploring ice and have been painting some ice cubes! This initiated a great converstaion about ice melting as a pool of water began to appear in the tray!

Year 3 Fitness fans!

"The temperature is cold"  I need to wear my hat and  gloves" Marleigh.

"All the leaves have fallen off.  The trees are bare" Isobelle

"It is very dark in the morning" Evelyn.

Our classroom has also been transformed into a winter wonderland where we have been reading wintery stories, solving winter maths problems and doing some fantastic winter themed writing in the writng areas.

Year 1 Local & World Habitats

Date: 10th Jan 2022 @ 6:34pm

Todays Science lesson was a jam-packed one! We explored both local and world habitats and identified animals that live in each. We learnt that a habitat is a place where animals and plants live and we explored both local and world habitats within todays lesson. We started by looking at local habitats – urban, woodland, pond and coastal. We discussed and compared each habitat, before looking specifically at a coastal habitat and what animals/plants we might see there. We then explored world habitats – desert, artic, tropical rainforest and ocean. We then completed a world habitats animal sort, discussing how we thought each animal was adapted to its habitat and what it is like in each place.

Year 1 Life Processes

Date: 9th Jan 2022 @ 11:13am

Today we began to learn about the life processes and characteristics of living things. We learnt that all living things do certain things to stay alive. We then spent some time exploring the different ways that animals, humans and plants carry out the life processes. We were then introduced to MRS GREN and explored each of the life processes to ensure we understood what they mean. Finally we sorted a number of objects into the headings never alive, living and dead. We tried hard to think about the seven life processes when sorting each object.

Year 1 Lost and Found

Date: 9th Jan 2022 @ 10:50am

This week we were introduced to our new text, ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. As a class we read the story, focusing on our understanding of key vocabulary and the order of key events. Through the story we learnt about the unlikely friendship and relationship between the boy and the penguin as well as the characteristics of kindness and compassion. We also used our skills of prediction to work out what might happen next from what we had read so far. We then worked with a partner to order key events independently and retell the story ourselves.

Year 5 Building Frame Structures!

Date: 8th Jan 2022 @ 5:34pm

Upon our return to Year 5, we spent Wednesday afternoon building our own frame structures... out of raw spaghetti!

We spent time as a class looking at beautiful buildings around the world, some that we knew (Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal and London Bridge) and some that we didn't know (The Louvre... in Abu Dhabi and The Centre Pompidou).

Next, we had to design what we wanted to build and explain why we wanted to build a frame structure in the way we had designed.

Then came the hard part! Putting our ideas into practice with just spaghetti and Blu-Tac. This took a lot of teamwork and patience, but it is fair to say we did an excellent job! Year 5 are really looking forward to our Design Technology unit over this next half-term.

Year 3 Bingo!!

Date: 7th Jan 2022 @ 3:34pm

In French, Year 3 have been learning about colours. We learnt to sing a French song and had a game of bingo. We wrote the words in French and had to listen to the words spoken in French to match them up.

Year 3 Stone Age Jewelry

Year 4 Seas the day!

Date: 6th Jan 2022 @ 7:58pm

In Year 4 this week we have started our Geography journey by beginning to learn about our coastlines. This week we focussed on physical and human features of geography and what they mean. We watched an 'ama-sea-ing' video of different clips of the coastlines around the UK.

We then look at different features and decided whether they were human (man made) features or physical (natural) features. A fantastic effort from our Year 4's and it was clear to 'sea' that they enjoyed their lesson!

Year 1 Now Press Play - Seasons

Date: 6th Jan 2022 @ 7:11pm

Welcome back Year 1! This morning, after our welcome back assembly we dove straight in to our third Now Press Play experience!

We are now able to access and operate the headphones independently and in no time at all we were ready to take part in our brand new experience. Todays experience was all about the four seasons. We were transported to summer, where there was a strange clock on the wall that didn't tell the time, but instead told us what season it was. However, we were all too hot in summer, so we thought we would help by moving the hand to winter! That should sort things shouldn't it? Uh oh, Jack Frost appeared! He stole the clock and it was our job to get it back!

Throughout our experience we learnt: the names of the four seasons, how the weather changes across the seasons and how seasonal changes affect animals and nature. It was lots of fun!

Year 3 Forest School fun!

Date: 6th Jan 2022 @ 4:01pm

This week we started our Forest School sessions! We had lots of fun exploring the outside area and espically jumping in puddles! These experiences teach us important skill such as team work and hands on skills of cutting!
