We worked really harf to ensure that our presenation was neat and that all our digits aare lined up in a column. This has been a really fun challenge for Fern class and we are really proud that the whole class is using this method!
First School Council Meeting 12th October
Date: 13th Oct 2021 @ 8:33pm
The school councillors met on Tuesday for the very first time since being elected. After introducing themselves, they began to eagerly discuss ideas they had about their first task. Each councillor had the task of determining what charities the school would support over the next year. A meeting to discuss these results will be held next week.

Today we worked practically to compare two amounts. We worked with lots of different resources from our maths area to make two amounts and then talk through our learning. We each made statements about the two amounts, ‘three is less than four,’ ‘four is greater than three.’ We also discussed the meaning of ‘equal’ and how we can visually show this with practical resources. We used the vocabulary of more than, less than, greater than, fewer than and equal to.

This week we have been planning and writing our first drafts for our very own non-chronological report! We've really been working on our writing skills and for this particular piece of work how we are going to lay it out. As always, a great effort from the Year 4's and some fantastic reports in the making.

Today in Science we made our very own sensory bottles using a range of colourful and textured objects. We recapped the five senses and how our senses help us explore the world and keep us safe. We linked our learning to World Mental Health Day and identified objects we wanted to add to create a sensory bottle to convey a certain emotion. Children classified the items into sensory groups and thought about how different items and colours might make people feel.

During Black History Month we will be reading the story ‘Handa’s Surprise.’ Today we were introduced to the story and we discussed the characters, new vocabulary and where the story was set. We learnt that the story is set in Kenya and we looked at the illustrations to support our understanding with this. We all enjoyed the story and we spent lots of time discussing the key events and the order the cheeky animals took Handa’s fruit! We then worked in small groups to reorder key events in the story. We talked through the story again in our groups and retold it using the picture prompts.
Boundary's Football Team - Back in Action
Date: 13th Oct 2021 @ 9:13am
As part of the EFL Kids Club / Blackpool FC Community Trust Partnership, our school team played in their first tournament with other local schools (for what seems like years...and it has been!) this week. They were able to reach the semi finals after topping the group with 5 wins and 1 draw. Unfortunately we were beaten in the semi finals but it was great to be back in action.
Well done to all who took part, we are very proud of you all!

This week in Reception have been lucky enough to be visited by SMJ Falconry who brought 4 different owls to visit us; JD, Midge, Bobby and Titch. We found out lots of interesting facts about the owls including what they like to eat, what they look like, where they live and different features on their bodies including their sharp talons (claws). We disccused how some owls are nocturnal, which means they sleep in the day and wake up at night. The children throught of some excellent quesions to ask including;
What do owls eat? Isaac
Do they just make noises at night? Marleigh
How do owls hear? Do they have ears? Indi-Anna
When we returned to class we read the story Owl Babies. We then enjoyed using the props at the storytelling table to help us retell the story,
In maths we, played the owl game and practised recognising numbers 1-6 and subtising using a dice. We also used the owl number cards to put numbers in the correct order from 1-10.
The children also drew pictures from the story and labelled them with the initial sound.
In the creative area we enjoyed collaging owls using a range of different materials and painting the owl babies ising sponges.
Have a look at some of our amazing learning!

Over the last few weeks, Reception have been collecting food for the Harvest Festival.
This year was a bumper year with a huge selection of food such as, pasta, rice, soup and tinned fruit and vegatables.
A great big thank you to all our parents and carers who donated food this year!

This week we are reading the story "We're Going on A Bear Hunt" By Micheal Rosen. The book is fantastic for teaching children about rhythm and pattern in langauge and its repetitive langauge makes it a perfect text for children to retell. We have been busy using our backpacks to go on a Bear Hunt and making binoculars to help us find the bear. We have rescued bears that got trapped in a cave and jelly and have been on a mini bear hunt through gloop - these are all great for developing our fine motor skills.

This week in Science we took part in an investigation to find out which materials are soluble.
We first ensured that we all knew what the terms around solubilty were so we could talk scientifically during our experiment.
We then took turns to gather a material and stir it into water and watch what happened. We used sand, rice, sugar, salt, coffee and whipped cream! As you can tell from the photographs, our children in Year 5 learnt so much about the materials and their solubility. Once we had finished our experiment, we spent time to write our results down and compare them with what different groups found.

This week we took part in No Pen Day! This included doing our normal lessons but in a slightly different way... with no pens! Some people might think this is hard, but in Year 5, we rose to the challenge!
During Reading into Writing, we annotate a historical narrative using typed features and gluing them down and in Maths, we completed another tri-jigsaw (to do with addition and subtraction, our current topic). During PSHE we took paert in an activity where we tested how far sneezes and coughs go by using a water sprayer, and finally in Geography we had a research lesson about rivers. The research lesson allowed children to find out what they wanted about rivers, and some children even found rivers from their home countries that they didn't know about.
A great day was had by all in Year 5.

In our latest Reading into Writing journey we are focussing on non-chronological reports. We have been identifying the features of a 'non-chron' and having a little practice ourselves! This week we are researching and beginning to write our very own non-chronological report on famous footballer and all-round good egg Marcus Rashford. In Year 4 we decided that we needed a little bit more space than we had on our whiteboards so writing on the tables it is! Don't worry.... it rubs off.... we hope!

This week we took part in the whole school 'No Pen Day!' and boy did we have fun! Our lessons were 100% practical and discussion based. We used physical 2D and 3D shapes to learn about their properties and their names by sorting, describing and playing games. We also found the features of information texts using blue tack and string to label a WAGGOL. In the afternoon we were lucky enough to find out about the importance of recycling using Now Press Play.

This week, we have been exploring French grammar based around nouns. We learned how to use a French dictionary to determine a noun's gender, how to make singular nouns plural and how to select the correct definate article depending on whether the noun is masculine, feminine, plural or begins with a vowel.

In Reading into Writing we have been focussing on wriitng a diary entries. This week we have been looking at all of the features that we are going to include in our final piece. As a class we had a discussion about what features we could see in our WAGOLL text and then we were able to pull out features during our 'Imersion into Reading' sessions.

Today, Year 2 explored their Science topic of Animals and their habitats further. We were aliens from another planet searching for another habitat and we had lost our co-pilot Shift. Whilst exploring the different habitats we encountered a variety of animals that would be found in that habitat. As we strolled through the rainforest a monkey helped us swing between trees and we grew feathers to keep warm in the Arctic. Miss Hooson and Miss Duckworth were impressed with the everyone's listening skills.

On Tuesday 5th October, alongside the rest of School, Year 2 put all pens and pencils away for the day. This allowed us to concentrate on our listening and communication skills and we all enjoyed lots of valuable discussion. In Reading into Writing, we sorted different letters by their features and tried to help the postman by putting the correct letters back together and in Maths we continued practicing counting in 2's, 5's and 10's by creating number lines. We also re-capped all the things we have learnt so far about Christianity in RE focusing on creation and how the world is changed. Miss Duckworth and Miss Hooson were impressed with the discussions that took place across the day- well done Year 2!

We have been learning some new skills this week - measuring and making patterns! First we explored length by comparing different scarves. We had to find the longest and the shortest. Then the children really enjoyed using a tape measure to find out how long each scarf was. Next we explored making a simple repeated pattern. We did this by using two different colours - see if you can spot the picture of the amazing repeated pattern made using pom poms!

After reading the story 'Little Red Hen', Reception decided to bake their own bread but, unlike the story, they all helped each other to do it. Once it had baked in the oven, they all sat down and enjoyed eating their bread together.
They talked about the different ingredients in bread and why they were using a recipe. They discussed how the wheat grew and was then cut and ground at the mill where it turned into flour. All children mixed and kneaded the dough and, after sharing the bread to eat, many of them wanted another piece!
'It tastes warm" Mercedes.
"It is the best bread ever- so crunchy and then soft!" Charlie
'It's yummy!" Amelia

Rosie the hen is going for a walk- but she'd better watch out as there is a sneaky fox hot on her tail feathers! Rosie then leads the fox into a series of accidents, completely unaware that she is being followed!
Reception listened to the story and laughed out loud at the fox's mishaps! Through this engaging story, the children learned how to retell the story, sequencing the events using the correct prepositions (across, around, over, under). They drew story maps, collaged a paper plate fox, painted Rosie and even made an obstacle course outside!
Here are some of our photos!

That's right! Today at Boundary was no pen day, and what a day we've had in Year 4. Lots of great discussion and debates going on in Reading into Writing about the differences between facts and opinions. In maths we were learning about adding 1, 10, 100 and 1000 to a 4-digit number with a fantastic activity to finish off the lesson! The this afternoon is Science we learned all about conductors and insulators of electricity and a good sessions trying and testing those using the circuits. Finally, to finish off the day we showed off our super search engine skills to find out information about a famous person! Unfortunately... Mr McCormack completely forgot at one point today and picked up his pen! He was subsequently told off my the childfren in Maple Class and even by Mr Bamber.

Today we put the pens down and used our communication and listening skills to get through the day! In Maths, we used cereal to practise our Key Instant Recall Facts and found different ways to make numbers up to 20. We also completed some speaking and listening games and tested out our memory.
To finish off the day we found ourselves being secret agents in Paris. We learnt basic French greetings and destroyed the bad guy!
A day with no pens.....but plenty of discussion!
Date: 5th Oct 2021 @ 3:38pm
Tuesday 5th October was No Pen Day. Pens and pencils were removed from tables and we had a whole day of discussion, problem solving and debate. The aim of the day was to improve our communication skills. We started by working in groups to solve mental maths problems, before moving on to talk about the slave trade as part of Black History month. We considered various dilemmas, talked about how to control infection in PSHE and debated the importance of various foods in our History lesson on the Mayan civilisation.
