What's In The Cube?

Date: 22nd Jun 2021 @ 9:01pm

Something exciting is happening in nursery this week! Inside our curiosity cube we found four dinosaur eggs! We have been looking closely for signs that the dinosaurs might be ready to hatch and we're sure we heard some tapping! We will keep you posted!

Our body is ours!

Date: 22nd Jun 2021 @ 7:13pm

For RSE week, we have been learning about different families and who is important to us. We talked about people who love us or who we love, being included in our family unit. We also talked about peer pressure and social pressure and how we can say no!

We also focused on the PANTS rules for our bodies and how we can say no to any touch that makes us feel uncomfortable. We know lots of different people who we can talk to if we are unhappy and listed our trusted adults.

Striking & Fielding

Date: 22nd Jun 2021 @ 6:53pm

This half term in our PE sessions we have been focussing on striking and fielding games, including cricket. We have watched lots of videos of cricketers striking balls, noting how the batsman stands in a sideways position, the position of the fielders and how the bowler bowls the ball.

We have practised striking a ball off a tee, stopping a ball with 2 hands and hitting a ball correctly. We have worked to communicate effectively and work well with others in our team and how to work safely in a defined spce.

How to be a good friend

Date: 22nd Jun 2021 @ 1:52pm

This week Reception have been learning about the importance of being a good friend.  We talked about different emotions and gave examples of when we felt like that.

"I was scared on my first day of school because I didn't know anyone" Leo

"I'm happy when I'm with mummy" Ellie-Mae

"I get worried when I can't do my work" Caden

We hid our faces behind out hands and revealed each different emotion.

Then we listened to the story of Percy the Pig on his first day at school.  He felt scared and lonely and we talked about what we could do to make Percy feel better.

"Ask him to come and play" Emily

"Show him around so he doesn't get lost" Leyton

"Tell him a joke to make him laugh" Ella-Rose

We shared some different images and talked about what was happening in each pictures ansd discussed ways in which we could be a good friend.  We role played these scernios and then corrected them by demonstrating all the qualities of a good friend.

How to...

Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 7:51pm

As part of our current journey in reading into writing we have been exploring lots of different types of instructions.

This has included us verbally sequencing different sets of instructions, before writing them down. We have also pieced together mixed up instructions and improved them by adding missing features. Whilst talking through our instructions we have continued to use time connectives and imperative verbs to tell people what to do and when.

One of the sets of instructions we have verbally sequenced were how to make a jam sandwich. We gave Miss Kay instructions and found out what happens when our instructions aren't specific! We will be writing our own instructions next week.

Number Bonds!

Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 7:26pm

This week in Year 1 we enjoyed a Now Press Play adventure all about number bonds.

We each had a headset and used our outdoor area to take part in a pirate adventure! We explored life on a pirate ship and acted out each part in the story brilliantly. We met other characters, discovered hidden treasures and solved the problem of the missing treasure!

We all loved our Now Press Play experience and listened brilliantly to the story.

Outdoor Phonics!

Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 4:14pm

This week we have been making the making the most of the sunny weather and have taken our phonics lessons outside. Some of us were practising spelling words with the ck digraph and other words with the ow digraph.

Extending our Vocabulary

Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 4:11pm

This week in our Reading to Writing journey we have been focusing on GPS. We have been learning about the different word classes and sentence types. We played word games to extend our vocabulary and then used them in our complex sentences descrbing the adventures of Super Squirrel!

Land Ahoy!

Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 12:31pm

Holly class have been extremely busy this week searching for treasure using our own treasure maps, reading pirate stories and telling our own pirate narratives using small world figures. We enjoyed dressing up and making our own huge treasure chest and treasure using junk!

'I've drawn a treasure chest so you know where the treasure is!" Lacey.

"X marks the spot on my map." Kian

"You have to go around the tree to find it!" Leyton.

"It's near the sea!" Oscar

Take a look at what we've been up to!

Dazzling Dancers!

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 4:18pm

This week, Boundary Primary School hosted a day of dance workshops. The children in Year Two and Year Five each recieved a dance lesson from Sarah Gough (from the Royal Ballet School and Blue Moose Dance Company).

Boundary hosted dance training sessions and a staff meeting attended by teachers from other local schools and staff and pupils both learnt  a lot throughout the day.

Year Five explored the topic of coasts through dance and Year Two visited the rainforest and the animals you would find there. A fantastic time was had by all!

Lifting with Levers!

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 4:12pm

We had a great afternoon learning about levers. The children were set the challenge of lifting Mr. Jones using only a brick and a plank of wood. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't - until we moved the brick!  They were then able to lift Mr. Jones off the ground using only one hand. We learned that if you move the fulcrum nearer to the load, less effort is required to lift it.

Character creating

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 3:16pm

In Year 4 we have just been looking at the success criteria of an adventure character description to help us create a character. We worked in small groups to think of all the different features.

Now Press Play - Under The Sea

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 3:04pm

The Nursery chilldren took part in a "Now Press Play" activity. Each child had a set of headphones (which they tried so hard to turn on by themselves) and listened to a story set under the sea! They had to listen carefully and follow some instructions and we all went for a swim in the sea, rowed a boat and became a pirate, a jelly fish and a crab!

Spirals!

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 2:51pm

We have been reading a super story this week called "Sharing A Shell" By Julia Donaldson. The children really loved the story and were able to talk about the charcters in the story and the different things they did. We also looked really closely at the different patterns on shells and in particular the spiral. We then created our own spirals by drawing, printing and even baking  - our chocolate swirls were deleicious!

Sewing for the first time!

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 8:01am

We started practising our Design Technology skills of sewing, by learning how to thread a needle, knot the end and then we learned how to do a running stitch and a back stitch! For some of us, this was very tricky and for lots of us, we had never ever done this before! It was great to see to much team work, concentration and resilience being shown by the year 3 pupils as well as patience for when the thread was tangled and they needed a little more help.

Now Press Play - The Water Cycle

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 7:53am

Today we went on an adventure in Ethipoia using the Now Press Play Headsets. We learned about the Water Cycle and how a water droplet from a lake or the sea evaporates to become water Vapour, which condenses to form heavy clouds and then precipitates to form rain on mountains/hills so that the water can rejoin the streams and rivers. It was a great adventure where we had to save the village from being in drought because a mean farmer had made a damn. We listened and acted out the story well!

Now Press Play - A Viking's Tale

Date: 16th Jun 2021 @ 4:53pm

Today we took part in an immersive listening experience where we listened to a story about the Viking's. We had to follow the story and use actions throughout when prompted. These made us have a better understanding of what was being told within the story as well as it being incredibly fun! We can't for our next 'Now Press Play' experience!

We give our Maths lessons 10 out of 10

Date: 15th Jun 2021 @ 4:48pm

This week in Maths we have been learning to count 10s and adding and subtracting multiples of 10. We had lots of fun completing our own 10s maze, using numicon to count in 10s and completing our own number line. Then we made a tennis ball target game to find totals of 2 multiples of 10.

Digital Music Technology

Date: 15th Jun 2021 @ 4:29pm

We have been creating our own musical rhythms and accompaniments for tunes using Music Lab on the Chromebooks. We have been looking at keeping the pulse and beat and using different long and short notes to create the rhythms. We changed the pitch and created texture in the melodies by adding layers of sound. Some people used different types of instruments and created synth effects, strings or glockenspiel sounds.

Special delivery!

Date: 15th Jun 2021 @ 2:52pm

Today Reception have had a very exciting delivery of 5 duck eggs.  The duck eggs were put inside an incubator to keep them warm.  We listened really carefully and we could hear the ducklings cheeping away inside their eggs.   At lunch time some of the eggs started to crack and 3 ducklings chipped away at their egg untill they were out.  When the ducklings hatched out of the egg their feathers were very wet.  We left them in the incubator so their feathers could dry out.  In the afternoon the children enjoyed observing the ducklings from our viewing station and recording what they could see.  We can't wait until the next two eggs hatch and we watch our ducklings grow and change.

Learning about WWII in French

Date: 15th Jun 2021 @ 2:50pm

Today we began our final unit in French - La Seconde Guerre Mondiale (The Second World War). Firstly, we had to use Google translate to work out the meaning of a range of words in French so that we had a good understanding of the words we were going to learn about in this unit. We then used the words we had translated to translate long sentences related to WWII. We will build on our understanding of new vocabulary over the next 5 sessions.

Partitioning

Date: 11th Jun 2021 @ 8:40pm

This week in Maths we have explored partitioning numbers. We built lots of different numbers using Base 10 and completed sentences together to show the tens and ones, e.g. 49 = 4 tens and 9 ones. Once we understood the concept of tens and ones we worked to represent each number on a part part whole model. We then extended our learning to show these numbers in different representations, using Numicon, number lines, bar models and hundred squares. We worked hard to understand the value of each number in a 2 digit number and that ten ones are equal to one ten.

How to Wash a Wooly Mammoth!

Date: 11th Jun 2021 @ 8:34pm

As part of our WOW for our new journey in reading into writing we read a new story, ‘How to wash a Woolly Mammoth.’ As our next journey is all about instructions, we read this book to tell us how to wash a woolly mammoth, something not many of us had done before! We then had a task to complete. Lots of dirty animals had been left in our outdoor area! Our task was to work with a partner to verbally give instructions on how to wash one of these animals. We recapped on our past learning about the importance of giving specific instructions, before choosing which tools we thought would be best for the job. We were then ready to get started and give our first instructions!

Adventures!

Date: 11th Jun 2021 @ 3:45pm

Today in reading into writing, year 4 have been reading different adventure themed character descriptions. The children read through the different character descriptions and found the features of each one so they could compare them.

Origami Animals

Date: 10th Jun 2021 @ 10:09pm

As an introduction to our new topics of Animals and their habitats in Science and Sculpture in Art, we created our own animal paper sculptures.   We had to listen carefully to each instruction and show many Boundary characteristics such as patience, resilience and creativity.
