We have been reading the story "Whatever Next!" By Jill Murphy. In the story a little bear makes a rocket out of a cardboard box and flies to the moon! We have had some super spaced themed activities including making space ships out of shapes and throwing the right number of space rocks in to a box. A favourite was making a giant planet by splatttering paint - great for working those big muscles. The chiildren also did some great mark making describing their trip to the moon.

In Nursery we have been exploring space and we thought it would be great if we could make our own planets! We put some shaving foam on a plate and then added some paint. We swirled the paint around using a stick and them gently pressed a circle on to the mixture. Then we lifted the circle up and hey presto - we had made a planet!

If we all do a little bit - it makes a big difference !
Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 1:22pm
In Science, Year 3 have been investigating what fossils are and how they were formed. We completed a carousel of activities to expand our knowledge. We used secondary sources to gather and present information, used magnifying glasses to examine fossils specimens and even made our own fossils!
Year 3- What makes a good role model?
Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 1:16pm
In R.E we were exploring a wide variety of stories surrounding Prophet Muhammed. We explored which characteristics he demonstrated and how these made him role model. We created a freeze frame from the stories that pin- pointed the most important part of each. We had to explain why it was the most important section. Then we identified what characteristics, message and how he was portrayed as a role model. We then had to teach other groups what we had found.
Year 3- Dancing with charcoal!
Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 1:05pm
In Art, Year Three have been exploring how to draw with charcoal. We were inspired this week by the artist Heather Hansen who mixes art with dance! We noticed that with gestural drawing we use long sweeping movements and the use of our whole body to create our masterpieces!
Year 4 - Digestive System Model
Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 10:58am
This week we used our knowledge of the digestive system to create a model. First, we looked at the start of the digestive system (the mouth). We broke up crackers with our hands then chewed one for a minute. The chewed crackers was broken down much more and had less starch in because of an enzyme called amylase in our saliva. This aids digestion. Then we use tights to model our intestine, a food bag to model our stomach, a cup to model our rectum and a hole in the cup to model the anus. We mixed up food and drink in the 'stomach' and churned it with our hands. Then we pushed the food through the 'intestine'. We could see all the liquid seeping out of the tights (this is the nutrients and water being absorbed into the body). After the food had passed through the intestines, it was stored in the 'rectum' before leaving the 'body' through the 'anus'.

On Monday morning we travelled to Blackpool Sports Centre to take part in this year's Sportshall Athletics competition. The competition saw students compete in various field and track events, such as Standing Long Jump and the 4x1 Relay.
Unfortunately we fell short of qualifying for the North schools section but, as always, our pupils represented the school with great pride and attitude, with the team scoring highly in plenty of their events.
Reception visited by Hedgehog Rescue
Date: 28th Nov 2022 @ 9:59pm
Today the children in Reception have had a special visit from Hedgehog Rescue. Carolyn from Hedgehog Rescue talked about what a nocturnal animal is and shared lots of intersting facts about hedgehogs including what they eat, where they live and what to do if an hedgehog is poorly. The children enjoyed meeting Sid, even though he was very sleepy!
The children recalled lots of facts about hedgehogs.
"They have 44 teeth" Emelia
"You shouldn't feed them milk, it makes them poorly" Lana-Rose
"Hedgehogs hibernate in the winter" Kristian
"They sleep in the day and wake up at night. They are nocturnal" Logan
"Badgers like to eat hedgehogs" Lelan
""They eat slugs, snails and worms" Ishaanvir
"Their spikes are called quills" Noor-Fatima.
Following the session the children completed lots of activities including writing about nocturnal animals, making hedgehogs at the creative table and counting out the correct amount on spikes for each hedgehog. The children are even planning on making a hedgehog house for our outside area, just incase we have any prickly friends come and visit. Have a look at some of our work.

This week we have been busy taking part in the energy saving campaign ‘’Switch Off Fortnight”.
The children will take part, with other schools from around the UK, and will make small changes in their lives that save energy and help protect the planet. It is a fun and rewarding campaign led by Boundary Primary School’s Eco Warriors and will bring Cop 27 to life for our pupils.
Switching off lights when we are not in the room, turning off interactive screens when not in use and ensuring fewer electrical items are turned off at the plug socket, and not just on standby, are the main issues we are tackling in school now and for the rest of the year. Hopefully, Miss Ashton should see a reduction the school fuel bill!
Be smart- start saving energy NOW!
Year 1 Waterproof or Absorbent
Date: 25th Nov 2022 @ 7:27pm
Today we helped Ted solve an emergency! Firstly, we learnt two new key words, waterproof and absorbent.
‘Waterproof means it keeps out water’
‘Absorbent means it can soak up liquid’
We also discussed and found out about Charles Macintosh, who was best known for his invention of a method for making waterproof clothing.
‘He put the rubber and chemicals on fabric to make it waterproof’
We then used what we know about materials, their properties and our new vocabulary to solve Ted’s emergency. We discussed how we were going to make it a fair test, by using the same amount of water and the same amount of time. We then worked in small groups to complete our experiment. In these groups we made our predictions, before following our method.
Year 1 The Jolly Christmas Postman!
Date: 25th Nov 2022 @ 7:18pm
After reading our new text we received a letter from ‘The Jolly Postman!’
We used our phonics knowledge to decode the letter and to find out what he had to say! We also identified the address, the date, who the letter is to and who the letter is from. Over the next few days we will be reading a range of different letters, highlighting the key features and further developing our understanding of the purpose of letters.

This half term in RE, Year Two have been exploring the Key Question 'Why do Christians say that Jesus is the light of the world?' and after discussing the Christian story and exploring different lights we began exploring Christingle. We learnt that Christingles is a symbol of advent and were taught what each part of a christingle symbolises. The orange represents the world and the red ribbon around the middle represents Christ's blood. There are four cocktail sticks to represent the creation of the four seasons and the sweets on the sticks represent all of God's creations. Last of all, the candle in the middle represents Jesus being the light of the world. The children loved making their Christingles to take home and really understood the meaning behind it.

This week, as part of our History unit 'Remembrance', we continued our learning journey by exploring the key question 'What was it like for a soldier in World War 1?' We began the lesson by learning the key word trench and discussed what one of these was before we split into groups to explore different aspects of life for soldiers in the First World War. We explored how life was in their free time, the trench conditions, food as well as the dangers of being involved with the war by looking at different pictures and interpreting what they were showing us. Once we had explored our given area, we were all very brave and presented our information to our friends so we all had an understanding of all elements of the war.
Year 2's Eggcellent Eggsperiment
Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 8:56pm
This week, as part of our everyday materials unit we conducted an eggciting experiment to find out which material would protect an egg best. Firstly, we decided how we could test it and discussed to ensure it is a fair test we would have to drop each egg from the same height. After we agreed we would drop it 1 metre and made our predictions of what we thought would happen we let the smashing begin. We tested a range of materials including: felt, newspaper, plastic tub, tin foil, bubble wrap and cotton wool. Some cracked slightly, some completely smashed and others nothing at all happened because the material protected it so well. We all had a smashing afternoon!
Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 8:24pm
In our computing lessons this term, we are learning how to code a quiz game. We have found out how to use the 'selection' coding block to select a 'condition' and choose 'outcomes' that occur if the condition is true or if it is false. Pupils have experimented with different outcomes, and will now begin to plan and code their own quiz.
Year 6 - Using Music Notepad to Compose
Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 7:11pm
We had a great music lesson today. We listened and appraised 'Fanfare for the Common Man' using the vocabulary on our new Music Listening Mats to describe the piece. We then went on to begin composing using the song 'Do What You Want To' as inspiration. We used the Music Notepad on Charanga to drag notes onto the stave. We listened to each other's compositions and provided feedback. We are looking forward to improving our compositions in the next lesson.
Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 4:06pm
We started our first of three Forest School sessions today. As the cold has drawn in, more and more grass and mose has got in and around the pond area. The children did an amazing job clearing it out. They also made crowns and head gear with bendy branches, leaves and wool. It was very muddy today and the children simply enjoying some messy play too!
Nursery Won't be Beaten by the Weather!
Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 11:38am
We won't let a bit of rain stop us from exploring outdoors! There is still pleanty of fun to be had in the rain. The children enjoyed looking after our outdoor classroom by picking up leaves with the litter pickers (also great for physcial development), they had great fun sliding down the extra slippy side and even found out you can still play a drum in the rain!

Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 11:28am
It's been pants crazy in nursery this week! We have been reading the story "Aliens Love Dinopants" all about aliens and dinosaurs who share a love of underpants! The children have been busy designing their own underpants and creating their own aliens. They really enjoyed blowing paint with a straw and adding eyes to make an alien! They have been counitng aliens, matching pants with the same pattern and feeding aliens at the funky fingers table! One day we even discovered some alien eggs. We waited patiently until they were ready and then we help the baby aliens hatch from the eggs!
Key Stage 2 Cross Country Race 2
Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 9:18am
On Wednesday morning, 13 of our KS2 pupils from Year 4-6 travelled to Stanley Park to take part in the second Cross Country race of this academic year.
The course was a long and wet one, with plenty of muddy trainers crossing the finish line, but our Boundary pupils showed fantastic determination to secure some fantastic finishing positions. Each place gains points for our school, and after 2 races we are currently third out of all participating Blackpool schools. Many of our pupils who took part in the first race showed improvement in their finishing positions, which is great to see.
There are 6 races in total, with 4 coming up in 2023. Keep your eyes peeled as we gain more points that will see us progress up the table!
Year 6 Geography - Where do people live in the UK?
Date: 23rd Nov 2022 @ 6:40pm
Our geography lesson this week asked the key question: Where do people live in the UK? We began the lesson by recapping on what we had already learned about the UK, including countries and capital cities. We then went on to learn about where people live, focusing on the key differences between cities, towns, villages and hamlets. We used online maps to locate towns and villages on the Fylde coast, towns and cities in Lancashire and major cities in the UK.
