Is it masculine or feminine?

Date: 8th Sep 2021 @ 7:33pm

This half term we will be learning more about French grammar. We started by learning about indefinite articles. In French, indefinite articles are the equivalent of our English words a and an. We learned that the French have two indefinite articles - un and une - and that nouns are either masculine or feminine. You use un when the noun is masculine and une when the noun is feminine. As part of the lesson, we also used bilingual dictionaries to find nouns and their gender.

Welcome to Year 1!

Date: 8th Sep 2021 @ 6:47pm

As part of our first day back Science WOW we began to explore our five senses. We talked about which part of our bodies we use to listen, touch, see, feel and smell. We then focused on our sense of touch to complete a feely bag activity in groups, using lots of new vocabulary to describe the texture of objects.

“The cotton wool was soft and squishy”

“The pine cone was bumpy and rough”

“The tin foil was smooth and bendy”

We then used some large paper to draw round the outline of our body and worked in groups to label as many body parts as we could!

We had a great time and learnt so much!

Information for Reception Parents

Over the next 2 weeks the children in Reception will be participating in the Reception Baseline Assessment.  These assessments will be delivered by your child's class teacher during the school day.  The assessment is made up of two components and assesses children's early skills in mathematics and literacy, communication and language.  Your child's class teacher will use the information from the assessments to plan and deliver sessions pitched at the correct level for each individual child.  Please read the attached leaflet for additional information.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to either Mrs Clark or Mrs Farley.  Many thanks.

Welcome back Year 6!

Date: 6th Sep 2021 @ 7:48pm

What a great first day back we have all had! Our WOW this afternoon was all based around teamwork - we discussed as classes the importance this year of working together and the characteristics we need to demonstrate in order to achieve our goals. Mrs. Hamilton and Mr. Jones planned a series of orienteering courses for us to work through as teams; the aim was to show our teachers just how well we can work together and communicate. It was tricky at times but most of us managed to finish the 8 courses through good teamwork and collaboration.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side!

Year Two had a fantastic final session with Forest School this week.  We had fun mixing potions and making food in the mud kitchen area.  We refreshed our knotting skills from earlier in the year by using rope and tarpaulin to create a teepee.  We picked and ate our own wild fruits including raspberries, blackberries and goosebeeries.   Then we consolidated our Science knowledge of food chains, prey and predators with an exciting game of 'Hungry Squirrel'.

As a special end of year treat, we sang songs around the campfire as we all took turns to melt marshmellows to make delicious s'mores.

Whatever the Weather!

Date: 14th Jul 2021 @ 8:46pm

This week we have been making the most of the lovely weather! We have been taking some time to read independently whilst making the most of our last few days in year one and our outdoor area.

We have all enjoyed taking some time each afternoon to enjoy a range of different books, reading independently or with a friend and then sharing what we had found out.

Whilst reading, we have continued to use the skills we have learnt throughout the year to segment and blend unfamilar words and use picture clues to support our understanding.

Kandinsky and Brown

Date: 14th Jul 2021 @ 8:15pm

This week we have explored two artists, Wassily Kandinsky and Steven Brown. We explored the techniques of both artists, linking our learning with four of the seven elements of art, colour, shape, texture and form. We worked on the key skills of mark making using a variety of tools, think and thin brushes and using primary colours to make secondary colours. We learnt that primary colours cannot be mixed from other colours and that secondary colours are mixed using two primary colours. We then practised the painting techniques of both artists, before using these to complete our final pieces.

Heritage Day

Date: 11th Jul 2021 @ 12:03pm

Our final product

Date: 9th Jul 2021 @ 8:06pm

Today in DT we created our final playground structure.

We looked back to the design we had created the previous week to recap on what piece of equipment we were going to make, what we needed our equipment to be and the materials and tools we needed to create and decorate our finished product.

We had lots of resources available to create our playground structure and we tried to use them effectively to build a strong and sturdy structure. We we're all very proud of our finished product!

After we had finished we then evaulated our design. We thought about what had gone well with our design, if it was fit for purpose and what we might change if we were to make our design again.

Heritage Day!

Date: 9th Jul 2021 @ 7:55pm

Today we became historians and celebrated Heritage Day! We we're looking forward to finding more about our local area and the history of Stanley Park.

We began the day by creating some observational drawings of the early Blackpool Illuminations and discussing how these have changed over time. We watched a video which showed us how the  illuminations have developed into what we know today!

We then took part in a virtual tour of Stanley Park, whilst completing a timeline and answering lots of questions about different aspects of the park.

We then created our very own illumination! We watched a video of the illuminations through recent years and collected lots of ideas and thoughts about what our own illumination may need to include. We all had lots of brilliant ideas for our new illuminations, ranging from Sonic The Hedgehog, to Ben 10, to a Winter Snow Scene to Elsa and Anna from Frozen!

We thought about what colours we wanted the bulbs to be, how they were going to flash and how different parts of the design may move!

Hooray For Heritage Blackpool!

Date: 9th Jul 2021 @ 3:53pm

As part of the whole school Heritage Day, Cedar class learnt about the history of Stanley Park. In the afternoon we studied advertising posters of Stanley Park from the 1920s and 1930s before making our own poster.
