This week we have held our annual school council elections. On Thursday, those who wanted to be considered for the role had to present their manifesto to the class - some children read speeches whilst others used slides on the the computer. On Friday, all children were given the opportunity to take part in a democratic vote. The results will be shared on Monday afternoon in assembly.
We are very proud of all those children who put theirselves forward and for showing dedication, courage and leadership.

In Year 1 this week we have been designing and making fruit salads.
We began the week by tasting and discussing lots of different fruit options that we may want to use in our fruit salad. We used our senses of smell, touch, sight and taste to evaluate a number of different fruits, and decide which ones were the best options! We were able to each choose 4 different fruits we want to use, which we then put onto our design. We completed our initial design sheet, where we drew pictures of each fruit and then our fruit salad, looking at the size, shape and colour of each to ensure our design was bright and colourful!
After tasting, choosing and designing our fruit salad, we then got to make our finished product! We began by putting 4 instructions in order that we needed to follow to ensure we created our fruit salad hygienically and safely. We then learnt about the bridge grip, and the claw grip that we needed to use to safely cut our fruit. Finally we washed our hands, and started to create our own, individual fruit salads!
After enjoying our delicious fruit salads, we then completed an evaluation to show our thoughts and feelings about our finished product. We discussed what we liked, what we didn't like, and what we might change if we were to create our design again!

This week has been important for British Values at Boundary because we have taken part in the School Council Elections. We presented our manifestos if we wanted to be considered as a candidate and we thought about what a good Student Council Representative needed to be like. We had a secret vote and posted our ballot papers. On Monday we will find out which candidate has been selected to represent each class.

Rev Cox and his wife joined us on Zoom for a virtual talk about being a Christian, how they live their lives and their sense of purpose. We explored the Christian belief of life after death and how this affects the decisions they make in life. We reflected on the term purpose, linking it to people we know and also our own lives.

Year 2 have had a fantastic day participating in Forest School! The children loved being outdoors and using their problem solving skills to build bridges, make secret potions and to simply just explore nature! We all had such a great time and we can't wait for more next week!

Down in the jungle where nobody goes there were lots of nursery children exploring animals this week! We have been learning the Animal Boogie, chasing after jungle animals that escaped, making jungle shakers and baking elephant cookies! The jungle animals have been everywhere! In the water, in the play dough and even outside. If you listened carefully, you might even have heard the roar of a tiger or the chitter chatter of a monkey!

We know that there is a lot going on at the moment, but please keep encouraging the children to practise their times tables. By June they need to know up to 12x12 fluently and quickly. Their times table test, which takes place in June, will only give them 6 seconds to answer a question and then it will move on. We will continue to practise as much as possible in school. Miss Crystal and Mr Bamber encourage the children to use Times Tables Rockstars (the children have their log ins) or Maths Frame Multiplication Check.

Busy week in Maple and Laurel!

It's been a very busy week in Maple and Laurel this week. It's also been an exciting week. Children in both classes who wanted to run for School Council had the opportunity to take part in an election campaign for themselves in class. The children who ran were so confident and should be very proud of themselves regardless of the outcome. Voting takes place tomorrow! Good luck to everyone who is involved.
Earlier in the week, we were learning to clapping and shake instruments to the beat of Mamma Mia. We worked hard to find the pulse and the children loved it.
On Thursday, it was National Poetry Day. This came at a perfect time for year 4 because we are just about to start learning about cinquain poems. The children read and enjoyed lots of different poetry throughout the afternoon, then had a go at writing their own towards the end of the day.

Days of the week and months of the year have been our focus in French this week. We have listened carefully to the correct pronunciation and learned that the French do not use capital letters for days or months. Next, we will learn how to say the full date.

Today, in our Music lesson, we listened to and appraised the song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams. During our ‘Warm up’ game, we found the pulse of the music and then clapped the rhythms in time with the music copying previous instructions. We ended the lesson with playing the glockenspiels. We looked at the notes, A, G and B where we played in time with the music and in time with one another.

This half term, our Geography is based on rivers.We have been looking at river features and how rivers change as they flow towards the ocean. This week we used atlases and online maps to locate famous British rivers. We then looked for the features we have learned about on OS maps. We discussed how effective the OS map is at representing the features compared with an aerial photograph.

We are having so much fun getting to know each other and the children are starting to make friendships and everyones confidence is growing daily. This week we read the story "Owl Babies" and talked about feeling sad when our own Mummy's go. We discussed how we know that we are safe in Nursery and that our Mummy's will come back! We made some play dough owls, owl puppets, practised our funky fingers by catching worms with tweezers and practised our counting by putting 3 owls on a tree.
As well as lots of owl fun, we also worked together this week to build dens. The children found some sticks and said they were going to make a camp fire. We talked about when you might use a camp fire and this opened up a lovely discussion about camping. We gathered together lots of resources and built some lovely dens for camping!

In PE this half term we are exploring dance through the theme of animals. We have focussed on creating and developing simple movement patterns, moving safely and creatively in space and using different types of travel and levels.
We began by developing our fundamental skills (hopping, skipping, jumping and balancing) to create patterns to music, focussing on freezing in an animal pose when the music stopped. We used examples such as, lion, crouching low with sharp claws, giraffe, standing tall, and snake, flat to the ground, sliding in wiggly shapes. We talked about various animals from around the world, discussing what our favourite animals and are how do these animals move.
We have continued to focus on our agility, balance and coordination to develop 16 counts of motif, using whole group ideas whilst focussing on timing and unison. The children are continuing to develop and perform their dances over the next couple of weeks!

This week, Laurel and Maple have been getting some practise in using their new Google email address, SeeSaw and Spelling Shed log ins. We spent lots of time going through with the children how to log in to each platform and also how to use it when they were in the platform.
The children did brilliantly and they are now well equipped for doing their homework online!

This week the children have been reading the story Rosie's Walk. A story about Rosie the hen who goes for a walk around the farmyard and is not aware there is a sneaky but clumsy fox following right behind her.
To remember the story we built an obstacle course outside where we could travel under, over, around, past and on top of objects- just like Rosie did in the story. We also collaged a fox, used small world figures to retell the story and drew story maps too. Take a look at what we have been doing.

Over the last few weeks we have been trying to improve our fitness using different exercises. This week we did some running, star jumps, planks and ab crunches. It was hard and very tiring, but we are trying to challenge ourselves every week to do a little be more and show great determination and resilience. We learnt how important it is to rehydrate after we have done exercise.

This week in Reception the children have been enjoying the sunshine in our outdoor area. We have been role playing in the mud kitchen, getting musical at the music wall, exploring in the water, counting and matching numbers to the correct quantity. What a great week we have had.

We have had another busy week in Year One! This week we have made the most of the lovely weather and taken lots of our learning in to our outdoors area!
We began the week by looking at using the words greater than, less than and equal to explore and explain the amounts of different groups of objects. We took part in lots of practical activities to explore what these words meant and how we could represent these words. We then moved on to learning the symbols < > and =. We worked on accurately counting groups of objects and inserting the correct symbol between each group.
We have continued to look at the local area we live in and began to look at human (man made) and physical features (natural). The children took part in a sorting activity to group features into either human or physical, and then record their learning independently on Seesaw. We are continuing to learn how to use Seesaw independently, children take photos of their practical learning, and record their thoughts and explanations. Don't forget to complete this weeks BLT on Seesaw!

This week in Maple and Laurel, we have continued our drawing journeys. We have been able to practise with different grades of pencils. We practised hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, coutouring and random hatching.
In Reading in to Writing we started our next journey all about non-chronological reports. See if you can find some examples at home and tell us about them next week.
In PE, we continued with our teamwork skills. The children had to get their rafts from one side of the hall to the other without falling in the 'water'. This meant that the children had to talk to each other calmly and make sure everyone was included. If they fell in the 'water' they had to start all over again. By the end of the lesson, the children were very competitive because they had to get their 'pot of gold' back as quick as possible. It was lots of fun.
When life gives you lemons.... Make Lemonade!

In our guided reading, we looked at a set of instructions on how to make lemonade. We thought it would be a great idea to follow the recipe and make ur very own lemonade. Unfortunately, we were unable to taste the lemonade but Mrs Fielding had a go at home and she can confirm it is delicious!
The recipe is very simple to follow and it would be great for you to try it out at home and let us know how it tastes. We have uploaded the recipe onto seesaw for you to follow! You could even share pictures of you making it with us.
Learning how to play the glockenspiel!

This week in music we have enjoyed learning how to play the glockenspiel. We spoke about rhythm, beat, tempo and notes. We moved to music, sat down and listened with closed eyes. After listening, talking about the song and answering the questions together (using correct musical language) our task was to play the glockenspiel in time with the beats in the song. We learnt how to play the notes C, E and G. It was great fun! We had to work collaboratively and help each other.

It has been an explosion of colour in nursery this week! We have been reading "The Colour Monster" a story about a monster who changes colour depending on how he is feeling. When he is happy he turns yellow, if you we could change colour, I think we would all have been yellow this week because we've had so much fun! The children have been making their own monsters and exploring the different colours. They have also been building relationships with each other by sharing and working together when playing outside.

Year 2 settled back into school brilliantly! We had a fantastic week, learning lots of new things and getting use to our new routines. It is like we have never been gone!
We learnt all about animals and their offspring, done lots of outside learning and we have explored moving vehicles ready for our DT project. The children loved playing with the toys and enjoyed giving their star rating afterwards.
It has been great to have you all back and we are looking forward to the rest of the year together!

Welcome back Year 5! Over the last few days we have been getting to know each other, learning new routines and settling back into school life. Things may be slightly different in the classroom but the children have proved they are up for the challenge of making a success of Year 5. In science, we have been learning about properties and changes of materials.
