The Owl Experience!

Date: 11th Oct 2019 @ 7:07pm

This week we had a very exciting visit from Midge the owl! We all listened carefully to the lady who looks after Midge.  She told us lots of exciting facts about owls! Some of us were lucky enough to hold Midge. We had to wear a special glove and be very brave and gentle with the owls. When we got back to Nursery we used the facts we had learnt and pictures of us and the owls to make information books. We have also taken part in lost of activities relating to owls this week. We have built nests for owls, made patterns with owl feathers, and we even made salt dough owls!

No Pen Day!

Date: 11th Oct 2019 @ 3:45pm

No pen day was great fun! We did all our learning without using a pen. In writing we learnt about instructions. We were given a set that was all in the wrong order and our challenge was to correct it. We thought about what should go first, next, after that and what would come at the end. Maths was exciting too ... we used objects to create the part part whole method of addition. Some of us even got up to 20! In the afternoon we carried on our 'No Pen Day' learning in PSHE. We learnt about the characteristics needed to be a good friend and what friendship means. We had a go at various activities and challenges which tested our friendships skills and we were all very sucessful. A couple of children asked if we could have no pen day every week!!!

Today Year 6 led the school in the annual Harvest assembly. The children explained the history of harvest and how we should be thankful for the food we have to eat. We also discussed World Food Day and how we should work together to help put a stop to world hunger. We were joined by Matt Rowley from the Church Army, who also spoke of the importance of helping others and being thankful for what we have. After the assembly, we delivered all the items that had been donated to Vincent House - a charity which helps and supports the homeless in our local area.

Reception's Roving Reader's

This morning, Year 6 planned and taught an R.E. lesson to Year 1 all about Baptism. By the end of the lesson, the children could describe what happens during a baptism service in church, name the special objects needed for a baptism and explain why it is an important ceremony for Christians.

Visit to the Book Bus!

Date: 1st Oct 2019 @ 4:51pm

This week Nursery enjoyed a visit to the book bus! We all had a look at the different books available. Some of us were lucky enough to buy a book! We gave our money to pay for the book ourselves, and counted out the coins in our change. We are looking forward to reading our new stories!

The Tiger Who Came to Nursery!

Date: 3rd Oct 2019 @ 3:51pm

This week we had a visit from a tiger! We read the story 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea,' talking about all the different foods he eats, and if they are healthy or unhealthy. Later on in the week we came in to Nursery one morning to find all the food had disappeared! But...the tiger had left some pretty obvious clues! We found four big tiger prints on the carpet in Nursery, alongside an empty milk, an eaten banana, and a empty Jaffa Cake box! We became super detectives, investigating around Nursery to see if anything else had been disturbed! We've also spent time this week writing invitations to invite people to tea and making tea for tea parties. We have also made tigers using different materials in Nursery, focussing on the tigers stripes and looking at the patterns they show!

The One With The Book Bus!

Date: 1st Oct 2019 @ 6:48pm

Today the Book Bus came to visit. Each class had a 20 minute slot to visit the bus and peruse the shelves!! Children were invited to bring £10 so they could buy a book or two. As a school we will receive a percentage of what we made on the day - we will then be able to buy more new books for the school.

The One With The Elections!

Date: 1st Oct 2019 @ 6:39pm

Today the school held its annual class council representative elections. Any child who wanted to put themselves forward for the position was asked to write a manifesto that included why they wanted to be considered for the role and what they thought they could offer. They then had to read these out to their class. Each class then took turns going into the hall to make their vote. The votes were counted by lunch time and in assembly this afternoon the winners were announced.

Congratulation to Charlie and Millie who will be representing their classes this year.

The One Where They Play Hockey!

Date: 1st Oct 2019 @ 6:32pm

Our PE unit this half term is hockey. Over the past few weeks we have been practising keeping control of the ball, dribbling the ball into positions and push passing to a partner. This week we have progressed to playing competitive matches against each other. We are learning to mark a player and intercept the ball when it comes near us. We still need to work on getting into a space and not all crowding around the person with the ball!

Rosie's Walk

Date: 27th Sep 2019 @ 9:45pm

This week the children have been reading the story 'Rosie's Walk'.  The children have enjoyed using the different props at the storytelling table to help them orally retell the story.  The children also created their own story maps which included pictures from the story and even some children were beginning to label their work.  We also enjoyed painted the different characters from the story, making and collaging our own foxes, practicing the use of prepositions and counting different objects from the story.Have a look at our wonderful learning!

Terrific Towers

Date: 30th Sep 2019 @ 7:00pm

Despite the mud and soggy grass, we had a great time in our Forest School area. We split into teams and were set the challenge of building a tower from anything natural that we could find. The team with the tallest would be crowned the winner!

Conductor or Insulator?

Date: 30th Sep 2019 @ 6:28pm

As part of our  science 'Materials' topic,  we have been investigating thermal conductors and insulators. We designed a fair test to investigate which material would be the best to keep a teacher's cup of coffee hot. We discussed the variables that could be changed and what we would measure. After making our predictions, we filled four containers (plastic, cardboard, glass and metal) with hot water and measured the temperature every two minutes. Analysis of the results showed that plastic would be the best material, as it kept the water hotter for longer.

3D fun!

Date: 26th Sep 2019 @ 8:46pm

Children are currently on the journey to making their own photo frame. They are learning how to make products efficiently by selecting the right materials, refining their techniques and continually evaluating their progress. We needed to investigate how to make something stable and used pipe cleaners to create a free-standing, solid structure.

Our Special People

Date: 26th Sep 2019 @ 4:18pm

This week we have been learning more about our families and where we live. We have talked about who lives in our house, and made a family tree, using a different leaf for each persons name. We have made shape houses, and talked about how many family members we in each house. We have also thought about people who are special to us, including our friends!

This week we have also decorated cookies for MacMillan Coffee morning. We made the icing using icing sugar and water, mixing it together until it formed the paste. We then spread it over the biscuits, before adding sprinkles onto the top!

Mini Beast Hunt

Date: 26th Sep 2019 @ 8:12am

Year 2 have been exploring the school grounds looking for lots of mini beasts and investigating the different micro-habitats in which they can be found. We found lots of bugs and insects lurking around under logs, stones and in plants and trees. We noticed that they all like damp and dark places where no one can find them. Great work Year 2!

Forest School Fun

It was the first week Reception children stayed for their dinner. Take a look at them tucking into and enjoying their food!

Earth to Year Three

Date: 22nd Sep 2019 @ 7:50pm

Children have been leaning about our world, the continents and the North and the South poles. What better way to engage the children than to make a globe of our own out of plasticine. Children had to create the sphere in blue for the water. They then had to use a flattened map of the continents and mould the green plasticine into the correct shapes and add to the correct place on their sphere. Finally, we added a thinner white sheet on the top for the Artic and a thicker section at the bottom, for the Antarctic.

Bienvenue à la troisième année (Welcome to Year three)

Date: 19th Sep 2019 @ 9:19pm

Since the beginning of Year three, children have started to learn French. In lesson one, the children researched the country of France, the cities and monuments which make the country what it is. In week two, we dived further into the culture and the lifestyle of the people who live there and by week three we were learning some French words and phrases. Children have thoroughly enjoyed looking at Google Earth and walking through the streets of Paris, watching videos, singing French songs and playing 'Linguascope', an online interactive website where they can learn through playing games.

Witches, wizards and a whole lot of magic!

Date: 19th Sep 2019 @ 7:32pm

This week we have read the story 'Room on the Broom.' We talked about the different characters that are in the story and the order that they get onto the witches broomstick. We have made wands and broomsticks out of different materials, using sticks and comparing the sizes. We created magic potions and witches bubbling brew, blowing bubbles and exploring what was inside. We even painted with spaghetti broom sticks! The witch has also been very forgetful this week. She wrote us a letter to tell us that she had lost some of her items around Nursery! So we went on a scavenger hunt to find her hat, bow and broomstick! We found everything for her so she could get back on her broom and fly away.

Exploring with our senses

Date: 19th Sep 2019 @ 4:02pm

We have been learning the name each of our senses as well as the body part we use for that sense. We explored and a range of foods using our sense of smell, touch, sight, and taste and we able to think of some fantastic describing words such as spiky, sour, rough, oval and juicy.

Count us in!

Date: 19th Sep 2019 @ 9:21am

Year 2 have been working hard on understanding the place value in numbers up to 100 in Maths.  We have been using lots of images and manipulatives to help us understand the actual size of numbers.  We have also been thinking about how many tens and how many ones make up each number.  This will help us to go on to order and compare numbers.  We had fun representing numbers with equipment such as bead strings, Dienes, place value counters and Numicon.
