Stone age!

Date: 28th Oct 2019 @ 10:23pm

It was a great return to school, or should we say journey back in time, for our children. Our drivers for our non-core subjects this half-term are history, science and art. So, for our 'WOW' we combined the three to create our own costumes and to transform into Stone Age palaeontologists. The children have begun their next journey by digging for rocks and fossils! As well as a brief introduction into what we know as the beginning of man.

The One With the Volcanoes!

Date: 28th Oct 2019 @ 3:36pm

To link in with our unit on 'Volcanoes and Mountains', today we had to build and 'erupt' our own volcanoes. We were split up into groups where we had to use the resources (cardboard, plastic bottles, PVA glue, paint and strips of newspaper) to shape a volcano made from paper mache. Once we had built our volcanoes, we then headed outside where we used white vinegar, bicarbonate soda and red food colouring to 'erupt' them. We had a great morning during our WOW session and we can't wait to learn more about volcanoes and mountains.

Reception visit St Marks

Date: 15th Oct 2019 @ 7:34pm

Today Reception enjoyed a visit to St Mark's Church as part of our RE curriculum question 'What places are special in our community?'.  The children were very excited to travel to the mini bus and meet Rev'red Peter.  When we got to the church Peter showed the children all the different places in the church including the alter, the font and the pulpit.  He talked to the children about the different things the church does to help the community as well as reason why it is a special place to Christians.  The children then reflected of different places that are special to them.  Here are some of the things the children said.

"My nana's house is special because she looks after me there and we do nice things together" Albie.

"This is a special place.  My mummy and daddy got married here.  We have a picture of it up" Megan.

"Church is special to me.  I go with my brother Chidera:" Chisom

"My house is special because my mummy looks after me there" Kyril

"I go to special places with Rosie.  We always have fun" Jazmine

A day without writing

Date: 17th Oct 2019 @ 5:54pm

Year 5 had a great time during our whole school 'No Pen Day'. Pens and pencils were removed from tables and we did not write in any of our books. During our maths lesson we used counters and coins to solve addition and subtraction problems. Our history lesson was a top secret mystery about Ancient Egyptian mummification. We had to work collaboratively to work out how the Ancient Egyptians used to deal with their dead!
