Handwriting is a huge focus in Reception. To support some of our children who find handwriting and fine motor control challenging we have introduced a new intervention called Pegs to Paper. The intervention happens three times per week and is designed to help develop a more fluent handwriting approach focusing on pencil grip. control, movement and pressure. The children have thoroughly enjoed practicing with the specially designed pegs and boards and have been working hard to transfer these skills when writing in class.

This week we have neem learning about the importance of keeping ourselves safe when we are crossing the road. We started the week off with a whole school assembly where we explored hw=ow to keep ourselves safe when walking near or crossing a road, riding on a boke or scooter and whilst travelling in a moving vehicle.
As part of our learning we were visited by Zoe our school crossing patrol who yalked to the children about her job and explored in move depth how we cross the road safely.
"Walk sensibly and hold mummys hand" Ava
"Stop at the curb" Lockie
"Look both ways" Reggie
"Listen for vehicles" Noah
They found out why Zoe wear a hi-vis jacket and that she only stops for emergency vehicles.
Following this the children participated in oracy lessons which explored the importance of "stop. look. listen". dofferemnt dafe places to cross and the importanceof wearing a helment when riding on a bike.
The children drew their own road safety pictures and even put pur learning intp action by role playing in the outside area,

The nursery children have been busy exploring ice through hands-on play. They investigated frozen paint, watching as the colours slowly melted and mixed together. This exciting sensory activity encouraged curiosity, careful observation, and lots of discussion as the children felt the cold ice, noticed changes, and experimented with colour and texture. A fun and creative way to support early scientific thinking and imaginative play!

This week our focus has been road safety. We had an assembly on Monday discussing how to keep ourselves safe when walking, riding a bike/scooter or being a passenger in the car. Also, we spotted hazards in a range of situations. In our PSHE lesson, we listened to Super Cat's road safety helping people keep themselves safe. Finally, we sequenced the steps to crossing the road to make sure we can keep ourselves safe moving around our community.

Year 5 have been developing their skills in Invasion Games during P.E. this half-term, with a particular focus on hockey. Pupils have been learning how to control a stick and ball safely and effectively, practising key skills such as dribbling, passing and receiving. They have also worked hard on spatial awareness, learning how to move into space, avoid defenders and support teammates during small-sided games. Alongside physical skills, children have been developing teamwork, communication and decision-making, as well as an understanding of simple attacking and defending tactics. It has been fantastic to see their confidence and game understanding grow each week.

This week in Year 3 PE, the children enjoyed their second fitness lesson, developing coordination, stamina, and control through a range of fun and active challenges.
The lesson made great use of skipping ropes and beanbags. Children practised skipping to improve their fitness, before taking on a variety of throwing and catching challenges. They challenged themselves by throwing a beanbag and catching it on their foot, throwing and clapping before catching, and even walking along the skipping rope while throwing and catching the beanbag.
The children showed fantastic perseverance and enthusiasm as they tried new skills and pushed themselves to improve. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they developed both their fitness and coordination in such an engaging lesson.

Our Year 3 and 4 Reading into Writing class had a fantastic time practising their spellings in a creative way! As part of our Active Spelling intervention, pupils used dough to form letters and words, turning spelling practice into a hands-on, engaging experience. This fun approach not only helps improve accuracy but also strengthens fine motor skills and makes learning memorable. The children loved shaping their spellings and showing off their creations—what a brilliant way to combine movement and literacy!

This week in Year 3 Computing, we continued building our skills in data and programming by exploring branching databases. Building on last week’s learning, the children used yes/no questions to help sort and group different objects.
The lesson began with a recap of how asking clear yes or no questions can help us make decisions. The children then applied this knowledge to create simple branching databases, carefully choosing questions that would split their objects into smaller groups. They quickly discovered that good questions are key to making the database work effectively.
To deepen our understanding, we then took our learning outside. The children became the data themselves and explored how we could group the class using different attributes. Using yes/no questions such as jumpers or no jumpers, girls or boys, and ties or no ties, pupils physically moved into groups, making the concept of branching databases even more meaningful and engaging.

Discovering the Stonewall Riots and Pride
This week, we explored an important part of history: the Stonewall Riots and the origins of Pride. It all started in June 1969 in New York City, when LGBTQ+ people stood up for their rights after years of unfair treatment. The Stonewall Inn, a small bar, became the centre of a movement that changed the world. People protested for equality and respect, and their bravery sparked the modern Pride celebrations we see today.
We learned that Pride is not just about colourful parades—it’s about remembering those who fought for freedom and celebrating diversity. Pride reminds us that everyone should be treated equally, no matter who they are or who they love.
After our research, we wrote non-chronological reports to share what we discovered. We included sections like:
- What were the Stonewall Riots?
- Why are they important?
- What is Pride today?
It was amazing to see how much history can teach us about fairness and standing up for what’s right.
