Nursery Trim Santa's Beard

Santa's beard was out of control so we decided to give it a trim in time for Christmas! At the same time the children were able to practise their scissor and fine motor control and also have conversations about their own experiences (of hair cuts - not beard trims!) The childern were super at sharing the scissors and helping each other to make cuts in the paper. 

Year 6 - PCSO visit

As part of our PSHE and Science curriculum, today we invited PCSO Debby Savage to talk to Year 6 about the effects and dangers of drugs and alcohol. The children were very sensible listening to what she had to say and asked some very good questions. We discussed smoking, vaping, alcohol and illegal/legal drugs and how they can affect our bodies.

Year 2- Writing a Christmas Story

Year Two are beginning to write a christmas story based on the John Lewis advert Excitable Edgar. So far, we have immersed ourselves in different stories that have been told through a variety of Christmas adverts including the Christmas truce, Monty the penguin and the man on the moon. Throughout, we have discussed the problem and solutions for a story, main characters and the different settings. We noticed, good stories have lots of descriptive language so through our GPS sessions we have explored using adjectives to describe characters and settings as well as adverbs to describe actions. We are looking forward to planning and drafting our final stories. 

Year 2- Singing Opera

This half term, Year Two have been exploring Opera and used it to retell the story of Hansel and Gretel. Throguhout the unit, we have listened and appraised a variety of different songs before learning them and practicing singing together in unison. Also, we explored body percussion and used it to add into pauses and instrumental sections of songs in time to the beat.

Year 5 - Excellent Evaporating

This week pupils were given the task of seperating a saltwater solution. We reminded ourselves about what a solution is and how it is different to a mixture, and pupils identified salt as the solute and water as the solvent.  Pupils completed an experiment where they heated the solution to evaporate the water. This left behind crystals of pure salt. In a discussion, pupils linked this to prior learning about the water-cycle.

Year 6 - Electricity

Year 6 have completed some great work in Science this half term. We have learned all about electricity including how to draw circuit symbols and circuit diagrams. We have worked scientifically and carried out an investigation into what happens to a bulb when you add more cells to the circuit. The children really enjoyed this topic and remembered lots of their learning when they did the end of unit assessments. 

Year 6 - Crime Stories

Our writing journey over the past couple ofweeks has been crime stories. We read lots of different examples of crime stories and gathered lots of ideas and vocabulary to add into our own stories. Some of us wrote stories about a robbery in a mansion and others wrote about a dog-napping. Read through some of stories below.

Year 4 - Maths - Multiplying three numbers

In Maths, we have been multplying three numbers together. 

We have been looking at the most efficient ways of finding the product. For example, 2 x 7 x 5, many children spotted that they could multiply the factors 2 and 5 and then multiply 10 by 7.

 

Year 4 - PE - Gymnastics

In PE, we have been looking at how we complete vault jumps and straddle jumps. We have then used this to create sequences linking main movements such as a jump or roll to a balance. We then started to perform our small sequences and will be working on these sequences next lesson.

Year 4 - Enterprise for the Christmas Fair

This week, we looked at what enterprise means and made sweet cones and reindeer food to sell at our Christmas Fair.

Year 1 Stickman

This week Year 1 have been reading and exploring the story 'Stickman' by Julia Donaldson. We have sequenced the story, used semantics to create sentences about the characters, written speech bubbles and explored lots of different related activities in our outdoor area.

Reception- Boundary Learning Together

Reception were asked to collect things they found when they went on an Autumn walk at home. 

Lucas's BLT project was amazing so it was displayed outside Miss Moyes room for the whole school and visitors to see.

"We went on a walk and collected leaves, twigs and grass... I made this with Mummy" Lucas.

Reception- Little Red Riding Hood

This week Reception have been reading the story Little Red Riding Hood. They have been busy acting out the story at the story telling table and in the home corner, writng lists of food for Granny, making 'Get Well Soon' cards for Granny and collaging a paper plate wolf.

"I made a card to make Granny feel better" Lily-Mae.

"The wolf was bad and wanted to eat Little Red Red Riding Hood" Kevin.

"My wolf has got big teeth" Myla- Gray.

Acorns - exploring habitats

This week Acorns have been exploring habitats. We have engaged in a variety of multisensory activities to develop our curiosity and understanding.

We have enjoyed our tuff tray of different environments, singing the habitat song and looking at the different animals and where they live. 

Year 1 Forest School

Over the past few weeks, Year 1 have enjoyed our Forest School sessions. We have looked for shapes in nature, made leaf characters, learnt how to make 'dragon sparkles,' played in the mud kitchen, found animal footprints and even enjoyed some hot vimto! Even though it was very cold during our sessions we wrapped up warm and had lots of fun!

Nursery and the Slime

We are always thinking of fun ways to develop the children's fine motor skills. This week we found a fun and very messy way! Through exploring slime to children are able to manipulte the slime in different ways by pulling, stretching and squeezing. They also have to try really hard to pick the slime up because it's ever so slippery! This activity was also great for developing langauge and communication as the children talk to each other about the slime and exlore new vocabulary to describe it. 

Year 5 - No Pen Morning

For 'No Pen Morning' this term, pupils in year 5 completed maths and writing activities without using a pen or pencil, or mark making of any kind. In maths, we returned to prior learning about Roman numerals and place value. The pupils completed a tri-puzzle, matching numbers to the Roman numerals of the same value, and also matching equivalent fractions. In Reading into Writing, the children published a piece of writing using Google docs, which helps to develop their word processing skills and speed up their typing!

Nursery Make Aliens

We have been reading the story "There's an Alien in Your Book" by Tom Fletcher and we thought it would be fun to make our own Aliens. To do this, the children had to follow some instructions and add the correct number of items to create an Alien. The children were learning to recognise numbers and to count out a given amount of objects from a group. 

Year 6 - Dance

Today we began our PE unit of dance. For this unit we are going to learn the Haka - a tradiitonal Maori dance that is used to show strength and power. We began looking at the actions in today's lesson and some of the words. By the end of the unit we will be able to perform the Haka and say the words.

Year 2- No Pen Morning

Today, we celebrated no pen morning by completing activities without picking up any writing devices. In Reading into Writing, we began our Christmas story unit by immersing ourselves in a variety of christmas adverts that tell a story. We enjoyed watching the adverts before discussing who the main characters were, what the problem and solution were in the story as well as generating adjectives to describe characters and settings. In Maths, we explored adding two 2-digit numbers using base 10 and place value counters to help us; we learnt we need to add the ones first to help us in the future when it crosses a ten. 

Year 1 No Pen Morning

Today we spent no pen morning building houses for the three little pigs! We listened to the story, talked about the different materials the pigs use and the pros and cons of each. We then collected different materials from around the classroom and our outdoor area to build our houses.

Year 6 - No Pen Morning

For our No Pen Morning we focussed on our Oracy skills. We began by discussing how to project out voice and took part in some projeciton activities, which helped us to make our voices louder and clearer. We had fun ready the line 'Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall' in different styels, including as if we were in a rush, if we were angry and if we were telling a secret. We finished the session with some agree, build or challenge statements, where we used our student talk tactic statements to help with organise our answers.

Year 4 - No pen morning

In Maths, for no pen morning we used our place value knowledge to create a ‘Number Museum’. We were given a number which we had to display in as many ways as possible with Maths resources and other resources around the room. We also had to include a red herring for other groups to try and find when they were visiting our museum. In Reading into Writing, we used our computing skills to edit a WABOLL playscript. To end the morning, we used our oracy and active listening skills. We have been learning about active listening in our 'Skills for Life' lessons and assemblies. We had to ask our pair questions and make sure that we listened to their response and reasoning well enough to retell the rest of the class what we had learnt about each other.

Year 1 Gymnastics

Today in our PE session with Mr Ratcliff we learnt how to use some of the gym apparatus in the hall. We learnt how to climb and land safely and why this is important. 

Year 2- Fire Service Visit

Date: 25th Nov 2024 @ 9:11pm

Last week, we had a visit from the Fire Service who came and talked to us about all the ways they help in the community. They taught us what to do if we accidentally caught on fire and what to do if there was a fire in the house including how to get out safely. We were tasked with testing our smoke alarms and checking they all work to help keep us safe. We really enjoyed learning about how to keep safe.
