Date: 22nd Jan 2026 @ 4:23pm
Reception have been learning about how Doctors and nurses help people and have been having a great time role playing in our Doctor's Surgery. They dressed up as Doctors and nurses, role played at being the surgery receptionist and patieints and spent many hours helping our baby doll get better from whatever illness or injury it had sustained. Children wrote out prescriptions and patient information too.
"I am a patient and I have banged my head" Zara
"I am the receptionist and I am checking patients in on my computer" Rohan
"I answer the phone...they tell me what is wrong with them...I tell the Doctor" Ruby- Louise
"I am the Doctor and I am going to make the baby better with this medicine" Reggie
"I am the nurse and I can help the baby get better...I,m checking it's temperature- it is hot!" Bonnie

πΊ Our Second Dance Session! π
Today we had our second dance session, and it was fantastic! β¨
π Recapping Last Week
We began by going over the dance phrases we learned last week. Everyone did a great job remembering the moves! We spent some time refining them so they looked smoother, sharper, and more confident. βοΈ
π― Working Together
Next, we worked in pairs and small groups π₯ to start linking our phrases together. This was a great chance to share ideas, help each other, and experiment with different ways of moving.
π Linking Movements
We explored clever ways to connect our phrases using:
- πΆ Steps
- π Turns
- π¦ Jumps
It was brilliant to see so much creativity, teamwork, and enthusiasm across the room!
π What’s Next?
By the end of the session, our routines were already starting to come together. We’re excited to keep building on them next week!

Computing - Creating our own branching database
Date: 22nd Jan 2026 @ 8:49am
This week in Computing, Year 3 learned all about branching databases. We started by recapping how yes/no questions can help us identify and group objects based on their attributes (what they are like). The children then explored a branching database website, where they created their own databases. They chose different themes such as food and drink, animals, minibeasts and space. Using these, they wrote their own yes/no questions to help sort the objects correctly. Once their questions were ready, the children grouped each object into yes or no, thinking carefully about the best attributes to use. They showed great problem-solving skills and lots of creativity when designing their branching databases.

In our science lesson this week we learned about fossils. Fossils are the remains or marks of plants and animals that lived a very long time ago. We looked at pictures of fossils and some real fossils to see what they look like. We learned about fossilisation, which is how fossils are made. When a plant or animal dies, it can be covered by mud or sand. Over a very long time, more layers build up and press down hard. Water with tiny minerals moves through the layers and slowly turns the bones or shells into rock. This takes millions of years. We also ordered the steps of fossilisation to show we understood the process. To finish the lesson, we drew our own fossils, showing what plants or animals from the past might look like when they are preserved in rock.

During our Reading into Writing lesson, the children explored Charlotte’s Web as part of our journey into playscripts. They acted out scenes from the story, bringing the characters to life through performance. The focus was on using voice effectively by projecting clearly, as well as developing body language and facial expressions to match each character’s feelings and personality. The children also practised following stage directions, helping them to understand how actions and movements are written in a playscript. This active approach supported their understanding of character, dialogue and performance, while building confidence and engagement.

Nursery have become Pirates! We have read the story "Don't disturb the Pirates" and leanrt all about treausre hunts, ship wrecks, walking the plank and maps. The children created their own maps and discussed where they placed the key features using prepositions. They also counted golden coins, made pirate soup. For physical development the children moved large bricks and crates to make a pirate ship and even walked the plank!

As part of our Hindu topic in RE, this week we have been focusing our learning on Holi. Holi is a Hindu festival that celebrates spring, love and new life.
Holi (also known as the 'festival of colours') is a colourful, fun festival where there is singing, dancing and throwing of powder paint and coloured water. In this festival Hindu's celebrate their god Krishna and the legend of Holika and Prahlad.
Nursery Have a Visit From The Library Service
Date: 21st Jan 2026 @ 12:24pm
Nursery had a visit from Zoe from Blackpool Library Service. She told us all about the library's in Blackpool and read us a brilliant Pirate story. Zoe taught us some new songs and rhymes and she delivered our Bookstart packs.
Year 4 - how do we hear sounds?
Date: 20th Jan 2026 @ 9:01pm
Last week, we looked at how sounds travel from the sound source to us being able to hear it. We discovered that when a source makes a sound it creates vibrations and those vibrations travel through the particles in the air to our ears. Our ears pick up the message via the hairs in our ears which then send a message about the sound we are hearing to our brains.
We were able to use a drum and paper then a cup of water and a tuning fork to see and feel the vibrations for ourselves.

In Mastering number, we have been looking at how we can use facts that we already know to help us solve other problems. For example, 3 + 2 = 5, so we know 13 + 2 = 15. The children have used renereks to support their understanding and have used whiteboards to show what they have learnt.

Year 5 - Design Technology so far this half-term...
Date: 20th Jan 2026 @ 3:54pm
Date: 20th Jan 2026 @ 12:12pm
Reception have been busy tidying up their outdoor area after the blustery weather. There were lots of leaves and rubbish blown into our garden that needed to be tidied away so that the children can enjoy a clean and safe environment in which they can learn through play. This activity also helped the children who needed to develop their gross motor skills and turn taking.
Everyone worked together to get the job done!
Year 4 - How far does sounds travel?
Date: 19th Jan 2026 @ 2:59pm
This week, we answered the question 'How far does sound travel'? We used the hall to measure out 5m, 10m, 15m and 18m (the length of the hall!). We then had four different sound sources and measured the decibels. We found that the further the sound meter was from the sound source the less decibels were heard.
Year 4 - listen and appraise 'Mambo'
Date: 19th Jan 2026 @ 2:57pm
To start this week's lesson, we recapped what musicalnotation is. We then had a listening, appraising andsinging lesson. We focused on melody, rhythm, beat, tempo and tonality of the song 'Mambo' from West SideStory. We used our stem sentence mats to help usdiscuss what we thought of the song. Before we sang'Bringing us together' we discussed what our postureneeds to be like before we sing.

This week we have been learning about transport.
We looked at the names and parts of different vehicles, where they travel (land. air, water) and why we use them.
We painted, collaged, made paper plate crafts and wrote about them too.
"Cars have four wheels. I go to the shops in a car with my dad" Zara
"I've been on a train- it was fast" Bonnie
"Aeroplanes fly in the sky" Olly

Pegs to Paper is an innovative educational activity designed to help children build essential foundational skills for handwriting. Using a unique peg and pegboard system, it engages children in hands-on activities that strengthen motor and cognitive development.
In Reception, we use it to help develop and boost exercises for handwriting that support grip, control, and language skills (up, down, pull, push, in ,out).
Look at what we have been doing so far.

Key Stage 2 pupils recently took part in their second Times Table Bee, an exciting and competitive event. Four children from each year group proudly represented their house and competed by answering a range of tricky times table questions. Pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 were particularly challenged, as they tackled more demanding questions that relied heavily on their secure knowledge of multiplication tables. The event was enjoyed by all and showcased the children’s confidence, speed, and enthusiasm for maths.
Well done to all that took part!

π‘οΈ Year 6 Blog: Discovering the Real Vikings πΆ
This week, Year 6 have been exploring how archaeological excavations have changed what we think about the Vikings. πΊ
Instead of imagining them only as fierce warriors, we learned that digs have revealed homes, tools, jewellery, and even everyday items that tell a very different story.
π What Excavations Have Taught Us
Archaeologists have uncovered Viking villages, longhouses and workshops. These discoveries show that Vikings were:
- π©πΎ Farmers who grew crops and kept animals
- βοΈ Craftspeople skilled in metalwork and woodwork
- π Traders and explorers who travelled far across the world
These finds help us understand that Viking life was full of family, farming, building, and trading—not just raiding!
πͺ Artefacts We Looked At
We also studied a selection of Viking artefacts in class. Looking closely at objects like:
- π‘οΈ Tools and weapons
- π Jewellery and brooches
- 𧴠Everyday items like combs and pottery
…gave us a clearer picture of how Vikings lived, dressed, and worked.
β¨ What We Learned
By exploring both excavations and artefacts, we now have a much richer and more accurate understanding of Viking life. It’s amazing how much a single object can reveal about the past!
